We're aware that this will be scary, right? Nobody wants to see those kids all old & fat faced, or looking like recovering heroin addicts, etc...

Ironically, the kid who played Chunk is actually looking really fit these days!!!!!! As for some of the others though, well, its the curse of the child actor....

If they use the originals for anything other than a cameo this will be a huge disappointment. The magic of the original was the kids. I think that's why its hit a chord with young people, it was like Indiana Jones with teens. Something we could all relate to. Having the original cast as stars when they are old will just remind us we are all old now.

But having it be a reimagining of what the original was with all new kids seems like a miss too, because what entertained us as kids is not the same as what entertains kids now. So in a way, to cast new kids to do this movie is more a way to pull in US as viewers instead of pulling in the kids who would be of that generation

This was the problem I had with Super 8 from J.J. Abrams. It wasn't a terrible movie by any stretch, but it was an obvious attempt at trying to pull my generation into a movie that was similar to the Goonies or E.T. It seemed like it struck all the same cinematic chords as those old movies. The only reason to do that would be to appeal to our generation, & not their generation. They got Harry Potter for that

Watching Super 8 was actually kind of uncomfortable to me because it made me constantly think "Why am I watching this?" or "Why did they make this & for who?". It's a guy our age making a movie reminiscent of the ones we watched when we were kids, starring kids that are behaving the way kids did in those movies from our youth. It just seems like youth fetishism to me, which is a little disconcerting

We're not kids anymore, so why make movies with kids for the purpose of appealing to us, our sensibilities, or our reminiscences of youth? The whole notion is odd to me

Like Harry Potter/ Twilight liked?

E.T & The Goonies were big on that level in our youth. Well Goonies not quite as much, but you get my point

 I never even thought of a "reimaging". It said sequel so I figured it would be the originals but old. Josh Brolin looks like hell.

Any movie played for torture will have ill effects. I'm not saying Super8 was bad. It wasn't great, but not bad either. I just felt like they're preying on our demographic in a rather creepy way

Never could hate the Violet
