Simple enough. If you could pick 5 deceased entertainers to give back to the world, who would they be? Mine

Yeah, it's tough. It's like asking what 5 entertainers impact on the world is most missed or most needed in the world today, but that influence is just not around, because they are gone |

Well, I don't know about influence, but just in terms of those who have that enduring star quality, and who have imprinted themselves on the memories of my generation, and those before, I would list for starters off the top of my head these: John Wayne Lucille Ball Clark Gable Elivis Presley John Lennon |

Lucy was probably in my top 10, along with Johnny Cash & George Carlin. I wrestled with Lucy & Danny Kaye |

That's what I like about having grown up in a time where many of the greats were still producing. We watched the Red Skelton show all the time. Here's two more: Jackie Gleason Jimi Hendrix |

Once Ixalla was ready, Tathrelle cornered her. “Before we leave for work, I just want to tell you, I’m sorry. I guess I sort of shut down last night. I know you were in pain and I wasn’t too terribly supportive.” There was a wall covering in the main part of their chamber, something that Tathrelle hadn’t noticed before. She stared at it for a second and then shook her head. Outside, a disembodied voice announced from a hidden speaker, “It is time to travel to all daytime places of employment. Transportation sleighs are available and ready. Citizens are encouraged to thank the sleigh drivers at the end of a successful transport. The government recommends haste, and requests that all pregnant persons be given preference for seating in their designated areas.” A little distracted, Ixalla just asked, “Pain?” Untrustworthy - by me, actually. It's for sale on Amazon - Yeah, I'm a published author jespah My author page on Facebook Author of Untrustworthy I blog about Startrek fanfiction..Honk if you love silence. | |

There will end upbeing noone on this list I am sure it's safe to say, who WON'T well be on it. Every name so far has IMO applied. Like Miller and Goodman, AWOL. Look at DS9, and the songs James ''Vic Fontaine'' sang, from what is called '''America's Songbook.'' Classic 30's/40's music, that more modern artists like Rod Stewart have gone back on and re-recorded. I think I have come to appreciate much of that, really, just be hearing audiofiles from DS9 with JD doing the classics, that's what they are, and, I'm old enough to be able to respect their value in terms of contributions to our culture. What my parents, and those of others here, listened to, and danced to as young people, as G.I'S heard on Armed Forces Radio on the front lines of WW2. And, yes, Kurt Cobain, for his time, given how Nirvana defined an entire new generation in the early 90's. Modern Rock stations will be spinning their hits for years to come, which I hear multiple times every week on the station I have gotten in more the habit of listening to of late, and, just as my gen's Classic Rock stations have been playing Hendrix and Lennon since forever, their works will live on. The above men are the 20th century's Motzart, or Bach, whether one is into their genre, or not. I know it sounds prejudicial, but, I wonder how many acts going today will have the staying power of anyone listed thus far? Yeah, I'm proud to be a Classc Rock guy.

I would throw in Rod Serling, as well. ''The Twilight Zone'' was I think considered to be among its peers the best-rated series in-genre, from what I think I heard in a PBS outing of a classic televison limited series, and everyone has heard of it, even if they have never seen an episode, but, I certainly have over time, plus, it even spawned a modern version of itself back in the 90's. Serling is one of those great creative minds of the 60's television, and yes, I DO feel that he would be ranked above Gene Roddenberry. TOS was also discussed in that ep, and of course, I believe it's safe to say, that we Trekkies would be willing, or certainly like, in any case, to put Gene on the list, who in creating ST started a franchise that brought us characters whom just about everyone who was alive at the time heard about, if not watched TOS, or cared at all for sf, and which has spawned four sequel series, and an entirely new imagining on the big screen. AND there are people like Gene Coon, who were so important in their assistance to making the first series the show that has made so many of us love st for so long. |
