A conversation on a science-fiction forum this week revealed a section of the community that's teeming with indignation about recent attempts to make the genre more progressive.

Just when readers thought the dust had settled on last week’s debate about “political correctness” in sci-fi publishing, a group of highly influential writers spent the past few days lamenting the rise of increasingly vocal women and minorities in their community. The discussion happened on a list-serv thread where the participants apparently thought no one would notice them—at least until they remembered all their posts were public.

Predictably, a new Tumblr is posting excerpts from the conversation, presumably as a way of highlighting just how real the problems with sexism and discrimination in speculative publishing really are. And spoiler alert: It’s not pretty.

Published Sentient Marsupial Canid

How unmitigatingly stupid.

These days, book promotions are at least partly done via social media (even if a book is only available in dead tree format). These guys' publishers will have a thing or two to say about them completely tanking promotional efforts in this kind of boneheaded way.

This should be Wheaton's Corollary. The law is: don't be a dick. The corollary should be: if you put it on the Internet, no one will ever forget (and you will never be able to deny) that you are a douche.
Once Ixalla was ready, Tathrelle cornered her. “Before we leave for work, I just want to tell you, I’m sorry. I guess I sort of shut down last night. I know you were in pain and I wasn’t too terribly supportive.” There was a wall covering in the main part of their chamber, something that Tathrelle hadn’t noticed before. She stared at it for a second and then shook her head.

Outside, a disembodied voice announced from a hidden speaker, “It is time to travel to all daytime places of employment. Transportation sleighs are available and ready. Citizens are encouraged to thank the sleigh drivers at the end of a successful transport. The government recommends haste, and requests that all pregnant persons be given preference for seating in their designated areas.”

A little distracted, Ixalla just asked, “Pain?”

Live long and prosper.....!!

Considering the number of women that work in sci-fi at whatever level and context, I don't see how they can complain. Besides, many women writers are way better than men, Anne Rice for example !!
R.I.P. Gummy, we'll miss you bro

I 'will' remember.

Sayyy, I was just thinking about this explosion of female sci-fi/comic book/fantasy movie goers. I wonder if this is somehow related? I'll explain:

So the topic started out to be a Wonder Woman movie, which led me to googling, which led me to some site that inferred the delay being part of a boys club attitude still in the comic book movie makers.

Which led me to think about when I started going to comic book sci-fi fantasy movies, ....then when my female friends started really turning out big time for these movies too, ....then the male/female ratios I've noticed in audiences for these films, ... and that the female demographic of viewers has exploded in my corner of the planet and on the Internet.

And in the OP linked conversation too I see.

Interesting.
I will remember.

This bite was funny:

“Paleontologists of SFWA will one day refer to this as the Assholocene Era … ”
I will remember.
