Did you notice that three of this week's major releases — "RoboCop," "Endless Love," and "About Last Night" — are remakes of '80s movies?

The Hollywood remake machine shows no signs of slowing down, with the '80s emerging as the most popular targeted decade from which to draw the reimagining, rebooting and/or regurgitating of various cinematic entities.

Below you'll find no less than 20 1980s movies that are set for an upgrade — some arriving as early as later this year, some that are still a ways off and others that may end up just being stuck in limbo until the 2080s.

see the list here

Good list. The classic movies are always being remade (Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre or Pride And Prejudice for example, how many times have they been remade ??), while others easily set themselves up for a remake, and should be remade (name it, there's many), but others are 'untouchable' and should never even be considered for a remake (Lord Of The Rings for example) !!

Do we really need a Robo remake? I hear Samuel L. Jackson is playing the Murph, and, yes, he is a good actor. But, as ReedEnterprise and I were recently discussing this very topic, what's with, yes, this new hollywood penchant. Yeah, yeah, go with a sure thing. But, look; would you want SW rebooted? Methinks not! Some films neither need, nor should be, affected by the ACME Rebootathon 2100.

I've been thinking Robo is one; Spidey, that was first-time theatrical, and done with some I'd suppose interesting alters, such as Petey's inborn webshooter. Now, redoing that character with another actor, and in a relatively short span of years??....Like I told RE, no way. Why mess with a cult classic? Robocop has always been one of my faves, and seeing Peter Weller in both ENT, and ST:ID were real treats. He makes a good villain, as well as hero. I wonder if whoever plays Clarence Bodiker, can match Kurtwood Smith's performance. He was terric.(He's one of several Robo vets, who have guested on trek, 'natch.)

Look, art can inspire, and influence other art, such as in fans, or pros, writing from some basic concepts, reworked, or certain aspects drawn from. But, originality, as with what often helps to make films like Robocop and others the classics of style or p[resentation they are, this is key. And, I know darn well, there are intelligent men and women out there, who can put out good concepts, and scripts. Noone does tha better, than we here in the staes, as time has long proven. Let's keep showing that to the rest of the world, eh?

But, now, i'm going to play the other side of the proverbial coin in my head, and simply say, Okay, it will still be kinna cool, to see Murphy ride again in his blue steel or ceramics compound suit, takin' out the baddies for Detriot of the future.

Peter Weller bdda have a cameo!!! AND Kurtwood Smith, lol.

Yes. Let's remake Scarface. Let's remake The Godfather while we're at it, or The Shining or Apocalypse Now. Let's remake every film that was great primarily due to history making acting performances in it, & then... you know, get another actor to play the part half as well. Brilliant. That's not a recipe for suck city at all, is it? Here's some more Rain Man, Silence of The Lambs, Patton, Raging Bull, In The Heat Of The Night, Rebel Without A Cause, Taxi Driver, Did I miss any?

Hey! That movie was great. A Classic. Wasn't Anthony Hopkins amazing in that movie? Performance of a lifetime. So, let's make it again but without him. We're geniuses

The only ones I can see are Annie and Weird Science, both of which were pretty awful and could use the improvements.
Once Ixalla was ready, Tathrelle cornered her. “Before we leave for work, I just want to tell you, I’m sorry. I guess I sort of shut down last night. I know you were in pain and I wasn’t too terribly supportive.” There was a wall covering in the main part of their chamber, something that Tathrelle hadn’t noticed before. She stared at it for a second and then shook her head.

Outside, a disembodied voice announced from a hidden speaker, “It is time to travel to all daytime places of employment. Transportation sleighs are available and ready. Citizens are encouraged to thank the sleigh drivers at the end of a successful transport. The government recommends haste, and requests that all pregnant persons be given preference for seating in their designated areas.”

A little distracted, Ixalla just asked, “Pain?”

I never liked anything about Annie. Anything at all. Not the movie, not the play, not the music. Nothing

BTW, what's the clock down to on the remake of Grease? Another obscenely overrated musical. I'd rather watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, & I actually like musicals.

In truth, if there's any musical that ought to be remade, it's Jesus Christ Superstar. Give it a proper treatment, in lieu of that Hippie Dippy 60's nonsense, with oddball, potheaded directorial choices

No one is original anymore. It's easier to redo what was done. I want new ideas.
