If you’re curled up on your couch this weekend during the winter storm that’s about to batter the Northeast, don’t feel guilty when you let the fifth consecutive episode of Orange Is the New Black start automatically playing. Netflix says lots of other people are binge watchers too.

The company commissioned a survey from Harris Interactive to find out more about the way binge watching, viewing many episodes of the same show back-to-back, is affecting people’s television habits. According to the survey of 3,000 adults, 61 percent of those who stream TV binge-watch regularly. Seventy-three percent of those surveyed say they have positive feelings about the practice. While 51 percent said they prefer to binge-watch with others, 38 percent prefer to watch shows for hours on end alone.

more here

i've never watched more than two episodes of any one series on netflix streaming back-to-back.

Ah me. I get it. I get the intensity of the prison comfort and/or emotional security and/or predatory and/or and or protection factor and now the games of sex in prison life taking on a much larger dimension, filling a greater amount of time than persons who have lives that can be filled with a wider range of available possibilities do not live under. I get it.

But now, after watching three episodes into this second season I see I have reached the visual and topical saturation on this point. I found myself watching the 'next' sexually explicit scene and saying "Again? What is this bringing to this interesting and needed to tell story that wouldn't be more effective in different way?"

It is my wipe out point. I have lost interest.
I will remember.

if i'm not mistaken it's girl-on-girl stuff, right?

it's for the guys that like that kind of thing. and from what i hear, it's helping with male viewership.

Yup, girl/girl. But being the story of a woman's experience in prison I'm down with that. Where I began becoming distracted and taken out of the story is this extending the length of these scenes which have been added this season to this very real aspect of their world there. And I would have the same reaction were it female/male, male/male. For my entertainment and educational purposes in this prison world, I find this new extension of these scenes to be more lone viewer masterbatorial presentations than germane to the story. Merely whacking material if you will.

For me the first season was presented with a balanced story telling of the prison 'experience' from the POV that woman. Which I greatly enjoyed. This new season approach I find dull, dragging.

Now if the lone porn viewing masterbater and the lonely voyeur is their new chosen demographic, well, I say they've done a fine job of writing!

I will remember.

Of course! And always, always, always, entertainment tastes are amazingly unique & subjective! For example, the entertainment series I'm most drawn to, for the life lessons I turn to, for the characters I consistently admire & respect, for the stories that comfort me, for the series ending that always has me happily weeping with bitter sweet nothing-short-of-joy........ it's StarTrek: Voyager that rocks my boat.

For other people Voyager just sucks. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Orange Is The New Black seasons one AND two might happily be anybody else's cup of tea!

I just checked the reviews on season 2. I am sooooo in the minority. It is being heralded and acclaimed by the vast majority of those being heard from right now. And its response is so good they've just announced season 3 for it. (But I'm at odds with the viewing public about David Caruso too. LOL)
I will remember.

well lesbian sex scenes arent really my cup of tea... but I wont freak out or anything... the show in general sounds interesting.
I"ll probably agree with you... there comes a point when sex in a tv show doesnt drive the story... its just there. Sex is good in a show... but to much of anything just ruins the story

There can be only one

I've totally run a train on Netflix AND Amazon Prime

OK so I have been behind in most of my series...with my job I have the time to watch tv AND do all the regular things human beings do.

So in the last week, I binged on a few of my shows.....The Vampire Diaries (which was beyond outstanding) and The Originals to name a few. I sorta like it this way cause you get it all at once. Once these are done, I intend to binge on Quantum Leap and Firefly. :)

Well I have the complete set of TNG discs, and trust me there's just 3 episodes per disc. My Voyager collection is the same. Perhaps a different publisher has squeezed 4 episodes onto the disc, I dunno ??
