The Captain's back...

So was debating with a friend the other day. Its the typical banter I have with my trekkie friends. He is a niner so he feels DS9 is the best series. As usual I had to set him strait :p

Once we covered philosophical differences, underling themes and other measures we started throwing facts at each other. It got me thinking about how unique my Voyager is so I though id share some of those facts and or accomplishments;

Voyager was the only Trek series broadcast on a network that did not get canceled TOS and ENT both got canceled, TNG and DS9 had the freedom of being broadcast on syndication

Voyager's premier had the highest ratings of any Trek pilot UPN's release was noted at 21 million viewers. Nielsen rated it at a 19 share. DS9 premiered to a 18.8 share. TNG debuted to 15.7 million viewers, ENT to 13 million.

Voyager launched a network however that network was UPN so there is really nothing here to brag about

Voyager was the highest rated show on its network for its entire run well if it has to be tied to UPN at least I give it props for being its top rated flag ship show. ENT was initially the top rated show on UPN but lost that title to America's Next Top Model. Ouch. TOS was never the top rated show at NBC or CBS.

Voyager was the only show to leave its opening credits unchanged for its entire run This is aside from changes in casting. TNG changed its intro during season 3, DS9 at season 4. TOS used different colors and footage of planets, and ENT changed the tempo to their intro song.

Voyager was the only show to retain the same uniforms during its entire run This is not counting alternate futures and holodeck recreations. TOS added red shirts after Where No Man Has Gone Before. DS9 adopted the First Contact Uniforms (and Voyager should have too once they met Andy Dick's character). TNG went to the two piece during season 3 when the boys got chunky and ENT added name tags for their final episode.

Voyager made more first contacts than any other ship and crew on a Trek series They were aided by the shows premise, however DS9 had a foot on the Gamma quadrant and could have given them a run for its money, and ENT might have had it been allowed to run for 7 years.

Voyager was the first series to switch to exclusive use of CGI and in the early days it showed, both in the dexterity of the ships and the lousy texture mapping. DS9's lack of time in this venue showed I feel. With Voyager and the NX-01 as dedicated models there were some more heavily detailed versions on the computer files and the Defiant never looked as good as the other two in my opinion.

Voyager had the largest proportion of female main characters There were 3 total for the entire series run. TOS had 1, TNG started with 3 but dropped to 2 in the first season and both DS9 and ENT had only 2. If 7 had replaced Kim as originally planned instead of Kes, the series would have had 4 female main characters.

:) please add any I have forgotten and I will too if more come to mind. Also, this topic theme could be copied for all of the series as they all had their own unique facts and qualities.

Live long and prosper.....!!

 Nice list, you want extras - ok !!

The Voyager crew had the longest continuous journey of any Trek series !! Speaks for itself !!

The Voyager crew had more alien encounters !! You just listed first contacts, but in many cases Voyager had no opportunity to make contact !!

The Voyager crew mapped a bigger portion of the galaxy !! Again, speaks for itself !!

The Voyager crew were the only ones to have a 'tame' Borg on board !! Took time, but eventually Seven of Nine came around to their way of thinking !!

At least half of Voyager's crew were 'criminals' !! The Maquis are not listed as heroes !!

Voyager was the only series to feature a female captain !! And didn't she do a great job ??

Sure I can come up with a few more, I'll give it some thought !!
R.I.P. Gummy, we'll miss you bro

that's what i thought! like the doctor couldn't come back & say:
"they've got new uniforms now & here's what they look like"
i know they had to conserve the replicator energy, but they could've
worked something out. if they could recycle things made by the replicator
(something mentioned in the novels) that would be the best way. :soapbox:

Those are pretty awesome facts!! Nice work!

I love voyager.. and it does contain a few of my favorite all time characters.. but I cant rate it the best show over all.

I do however love the show. and it is the series I watched the most religiously.
All my posts are done from my tablet. I apologize for all strange errors in my posts... as swype hates me. :violet:

I 'will' remember.

This is the first time I've seen this thread. I am going to make a .... display? .... a frameable representation of your listed points for my Voyager-centric home. I will bold the parts you have, leaving the contrast of unbolded text for the nice contrast it gives.

Gosh, I sure do enjoy hearing (reading) good things about this series that holds my deepest StarTrek regard.

And to think I came so late to the game with Voyager! LOL I had TOS and TNG and simply thought I wasn't interested. Back in 1996 I think, I remember a friend asking me if I'd been watching it, mentioning how good he thought it was. How amusing that seems to me now. (The draw or appreciation of the science fiction/fantasy/speculative fiction as a genre is only a recently acquired taste for me so that it was science fiction meant nothing to me back in the day)

So how did you guys get to Voyager anyway? Did you watch it as it aired? Did you know it was coming because it was scifi? Or maybe ST?

Did you find it on reruns like I did just because there was nothing else on at 9:00pm Monday thru Friday? LOL Boy, was that my lucky summer because I basically devoured it once I started watching it. And it was the summer before Season 7 aired too! So I was able to watch that final season with the rest of the Voyager viewers.
I will remember.

I watched TNG within the first year, DS9 and Voyager from day 1. My family also got tv guide, so it had to be a combo of the two. And I use to get the Trek mag as well. ENTERPRISE too for that matter,

Captain Janeway was the worst Captain in Starfleet history and was promoted to keep her the fuck away from another starship. But, Kate Mulgrew is brilliant on the Netflix original series, Orange is the New Black.

You knew I hadta :p :hugs:
