It will be a must-have for me, even outside of her being my most influential and admired StarTrek character in the most loved and inspiring ethical & moral series StarTrek has given 'me'; Voyager. I actually noticed her when she first appeared on television. I was immediately drawn to the actress for two things I wanted and severely lacked; that luscious head of hair and her obvious self-confidence. So I always watched any show I happened to know of she was in. But when she imbued Capt. Janeway with her strength and confidence which I so admired and longed for in myself.... she became a hero to me. "What would Janeway do" was never far from my thoughts. (as a matter of fact is was just days ago as I traversed a sticky situation I was facing my best friend said to me "Well, what would Janeway do?". LOL ) Yes, I will be purchasing her book. |

i read somewhere where she kept a journal for each season of VOY. so those chapters, should she go into great detail about that, (i hear it was a difficult time, dealing with work, children & an ex-husband so maybe she won't want to get into it.) they'll be interesting. |

I was wondering about that too. Kate is very upfront but there are so many rumors, stories whispered, that she never spoke to it made me wonder if she was trying to rise above idle speculation or if there was some clause in her contract that prohibited certain topics of conversation. And if there was a clause, when does it expire I had assumed this is why Robert Beltran or Jennifer Lien were not interviewed for the Voyager DVD extras. All the interviews you saw of them were during their time on the show, or prior to its premier. Unlike the rest of the cast, they were not interviewed in 2003 for the DVD. Terry Farrell was interviewed for the DS9 DVD but I had assumed she just agreed to be "a good girl" and not bring up any of the unpleasantries of her characters departure. All she mentioned was that she hoped they wouldn't kill Jadiza but if they did kill her it to do so durring "Change Of Heart" as that would have been a great send off and would have added more complexity to Worf's character. Beltran was very vocal of his thoughts on the final episode. I think he is quoted as calling it crap. He felt they were trying to blow through Voyager as fast as they could so they could be done with it and concentrate on Enterprise. He thought the fans deserved better. And poor Jennifer. What could she say that wouldn't make the producers look like bastards. Even if she avoided the subject, just looking at her would remind you of what they did to her. Some of the things I would love for Kate to speak too: Her competition Once Bujold quit, she mentioned they brought in "about 5 of us that I think they had liked" to pick the new Janeway. I had heard that Susan Gibney (Leah Brahms), Lindsay Wagner and Lynda Carter were 3 of the other actresses in the running. I would love to know who the other one was. Her daughter This one has only been mentioned in recent. She arrived in "New York at 17, became professional at 19". During those 2 years she found herself expectantly pregnant. Kate is pro life, gave birth to a daughter and put her up for adoption. I have heard that when her daughter became a legal adult she started the process of looking for her birth mother. I would be interested in how her daughter is, and I would love to know what she looks like. Jeri Ryan Kate was very vocal about her displeasure of the producers "appealing to the lowest common denominator". There were rumors she wanted out of her contract and to have her character killed off. At one point she did an interview and oh so briefly addressed this. I forgot the exact words but it was to the effect " she is young, and I am 43, I had to face that and I didn't want too". She has in more recent years spoken very fondly of Jeri Ryan but in the past, well lets just say she was great at making a point with out spelling it out. Her love life Kate loves her men. She was single when she was cast in Voyager. She briefly dated Trek director Winrich Kolbe. Here she is co hosting with Regis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWSZ_VMaM8M and speaking about her crush on Richard Burton. They interviewed Michael Nouri and she was picking up on him big time The video is crap but its worth it to hear her.

according to memory alpha;
i don't know if any of those were included or not. at some point chelsea field (wife of scott bakula) was in the running for janeway.
that's supposed to be a part of it. i think one thing i read said the daughter found her in 2001. she probably wont get into too much detail about her to protect her privacy. |

Agree that the last 2-part episode of Voyager was done a bit too quick. I would have preferred a 3 or even 4-part ending, and really said goodbye properly. But I suppose the directors, writers and producers wanted it that way, and didn't really care what we, the fans, wanted !! |

Sorry, this post is nothing to do with her book, which is a Must Have for me. I'll mention up front that Capt. Janeway as played by Kate Mulgrew is my personal single most important character in all of Trek. That said, when I saw the Mem. Alpha quote with Joanna Cassidy's name? I saw immediately that she might also have, ->'for me'<-, brought a lot to most of the same qualities to Janeway that I so value in Ms. Mulgrew's characterization of her. With Cassidy's own variations of course, but I can see me responding to a Janeway as played by her quite similarly to how I have responded to Mulgrew's. It's all academic at this point and I would not not not do a trade off for anything! And now back to the originally scheculed topic.

Her book is on the cover of my local library's brochure now! I've signed on the waiting list. No information yet as to whether it's 'coming' or 'here' as of this time or how long the list is at this time. Our library permits a wait list cue for items that are on order when they become available for purchase. e.g. movies that are still in first run that the library has on order for first availability. Cool. (a couple of years ago I was 40something on a list for some big movie that hadn't been released to DVD yet. )
