Yes. Very important to fully plan for all your casual and/or treasured pets; birds, cats, turtles, fish, dogs, guinea pig, white mice, hermit crabs. Every creature that depends on you for safety, comfort, medicine, water, food. We have tornadoes (lots). Mico-bursts which act like tornadoes w/out all the build-up. One minute there's nothing the next minute you're cutting you neighbor out of their house, peoples' cars are smashed, roofs lifted, roads impassible & electricity's out for days. Ice storms that 'have' had electricity off for over a week. Bad flooding every 10/20 years. Nuclear plant 50 miles away. Droughts the last few years that have broken down municipal water pumping putting us on boil water alerts for days. Electrical storms that regularly take out electricity for a day. Chiggers Mosquitoes |

Permanent Markers. Good one. Now on my list because I hadn't thought of that one. 'Spare' keys. Now added to my list. Waterproof matches. I still haven't figured out how or even learned the need yet. Nice reminder. (But I do have one large and one key chain size (carried with me always) magnesium fire stick.) I'll start thinking about this again. Bandana. I seen this enough that I 'should' have internalized this, but like the waterproof matches its still not in my mindset. It a head thing, a strainer for water with floating things before its purified, an arm sling, tourniquet, wash cloth, emergency first aid thing to hold a gash together, etc. But it's still not in my mindset. Good reminder. |

Tip: For emergency only if you've lost your P38 can opener or forgotten/broken your regular opener, you 'can' open cans on cement or flat rock/cement-like surface. Place can top town and flat, then rub it against surface. It 'will' sand the steel down to where the seal wears open. It's like sanding the top off. Saves stabbing it open with knife or screwdriver (done that), saves your knife. |

Here is Wissa's Emergency Plan Here you go. I didn't have a whole lot of time this week and instead of using one of my typical lists I added a little more, which took a bit more time, whenever I had some spare time. I wrote it for Wissa, but I'm posting it for everyone. If you have any questions, ask away. |

Thanks ali great list. As to government help, I already wasn't thinking I could rely on it for the first week or so. For a few reasons, not necessarily for the same reason's as you lol. 1) We are on relatively safe ground in our city. There will be people in much worse shape than us locally. 2) Vancouver is the next big urban center and they will likely be in as bad a shape as we are. Then next heavily populated areas and military bases are a 12 hour drive. 3) did I mention I was on an island? if ferry docks are destroyed it could be a long wait. |

Just saw something to pass along.... you know, in case of the Big One and funds/supplies/access whatever is reduced or non existent. Re: Get more life from those disposable razors in a pinch In your 'supplies' keep the large box of matches that has that striker strip on one side. But the most important part concerning the razors is that striker strip so keep it when the matches are gone. A dull disposable razor can get added life from using the striker thingy as a sharpener because disposable razor blades are thin to the extreme. Gently (GENTLY. Blades are extremely thin!) slide the razor across the strip until you get a semblance of blade sharpness refreshment. |

Maybe not, but a good razor could come in handy in a dozen different ways. But, that shave may be something that makes you feel like a human being. It's the little things sometimes that keep you sane. I've been in the desert for months. I saw Marines almost kill each other for just one shower in the middle of all of it. |

To a woman maybe. Some guys can't stand having a beard. I'm not one of them, but it's still true. You can get use to a lot eventually, even being somewhat unclean, but early on, it will be a sanity saver for some to have a shower and shave. I myself only go through about one disposable razor blade around every 2 weeks, because I'm really only cleaning up my neck from time to time. A comb, a couple pairs of scissors (Fine & heavy) & one straight razor would suit me just fine, for personal grooming, if civilization fell. I'm just too lazy to sharpen a straight razor until then, when I can get disposables |
