Leaving aside the Borg, Q and others who appeared in other shows, which did you like the best? I kind of like the Malon. Their whole concept doesn't really make a lot of sense (space is really, really big- there must be somewhere you can dump your crap safely), but I liked how ambiguous they were. They weren't really villains, they were just guys doing a dirty job. It's a shame we never got to see their supposedly spectacular homeworld. |

Outside of the Borg (my scary and all time favorite) and Q (my other favorite) I chose the Hierarchy. They seemed just intelligent enough to pose a danger and keep me interested, but they didn't seem cruel, which sat well with me. And unique look endeared them to me. With many shades of behavior and personality that were interesting to me.... and they gave a humor and lightness to the weekly alien conflict. I wasn't a Kasan girl. Nuh uh. Too mean without giving me something or someone that pleased me at least in some way. Nope. Angry. Always angry. I had to warm up to the Talaxians and even then I didn't warm up to them very much. ALTHOUGH, after Nelix and Kes broke up and the writers stopped writing him the way they had when he & Kes were together I fell for his personality. He made me happy. I adored him. But the rest of his race... huh uh, not so much. Wasn't anything against them as much as maybe just .... oh I don't know. Can't put my finger on it. The Ocampa I enjoyed. They were pretty nice overall and I didn't feel threatened when they were on. I like that. And they were on the verge of massive change, which appeals to me. Now the Vidiian look just flat out creeped me out. Yuuuuuuk. And the way they evolved to maintaining their existance? Sneaky. Mean. Of course I recognized they developed to where 'we' saw them in their lives slowly, over centuries I think it was, slowly down a slippery slope so I had sympathy for their plight and could see how they got to their present sneaky mean existence... but I had noooooo liking for them. They creeped me out. Except the Doctor's girlfriend, whom I adored. But she didn't have that patchwork body/face made of other people's skin either, I mean after she became a hologram. And she was nice. The Hirogens? The only, and I do mean only thing I like about them were the costumes. They were vicious and heartless. I could not abide them. (except that last episode with them when there was the nice one. Finally a Hirogen I could stomach.) I think I've only watched those episodes once. I have no desire to ever watch them again. I was unsettled and hurt when I watched them. It was too closely related to the Nazi cruelty. I know too much about that period and I cannot abide it. I think they were well done though. It is 'I' who have the problem, not the species. Species 8472? Mostly I liked them for what they caused for our Crew and getting the Borg all buzzed up and such. And I liked their ships and where they lived was unique. Oh. I forgot. I liked them when they were pretending to be Not Species 8472 because they gave me insight into their thinking and fear and reasoning for acting so aggressively. I think if the cgi had been developed enough to give me characters that looked like themselves but could communicate to me like the fake ones did, well, I think I would have liked them. |

Live long and prosper.....!!

Ocampa - better not start any long books, well so much for War and Peace !! Actually I like the Ocampa, and if there is life elsewhere then it's more likely to be like this rather than the war-like Romulan or Klingon species. People who just want to live their lives their own way, with no interest of giving battle to the Kazon on the surface. Sure there was a "supreme being" who provided for them, but with it's passing the Ocampa will have to adapt and find their own way. Sure they don't live long - by our reckoning of years - but by their own reckoning they live a full and presumably happy life !! Recurring - yes we only met them in the first ep, but Kes became a member of the crew and so a recurring character. A lot of criticism is about how 'nice' she is, but I would argue that this is the normal personality trait of her species, and nothing wrong with that !! |
