Last week's Borneo episode of Naked & Afraid is up on the website... for the time being, in case you still hadn't seen it. Tonight's episode is in a swamp. They look like they're going to have a rough time of it

Last episode of the season :(

I saw the Borneo episode the other night.

I think that the gentlemen in the show would have done the best of all the other persons, previously, but the stupid lapse in judgment cost him everything.

The girl really needed support. She quit out of that more than anything. Being alone like that can ruin you.

On another note, I bet if they had continued they would have been the first couple to bump uglies.

Yeah, they were a much better team than their situation showed. However, they spent more time than was beneficial on their opening hike, & I heard they wasted time initially in attempting 2 shelters (1 for each) & that time really should have been spent on a fire, right off the bat, instead of the dehydration that led him to his dumb decision

It's really dumb considering that the very next day he found rain runoff that was clean & with her pot they could have shared had he looked for it sooner. Then letting the fire go out was just plain negligent

I'm telling you, this last couple survived the harshest conditions & fared better with far far less

The absolute worst conditions of any episode on the whole show for their season finale, & consequently, the best team of all. I really didn't know how they were going to make it. They were brought to their breaking point & were it not for some incredibly risky decisions & some amazing good fortune, they'd have crapped out for sure

You can survive on an island. You can survive in a jungle, but in the swampy murk of the Louisiana bayou, all you're doing is waiting for rescue or death, & they spent half their time no less than knee deep in scum water

Really, one more episode and then the season finale?

Fire = life. Get that going FIRST! The rest will come in time.

Especially if you have 2 people & need to treat water

6 total episodes. You've seen 5

Ep1 Costa Rica w/ Mr. Dickhead & Dorky Girl

Ep2 Tanzania, African Serengeti w/ Mr. Bark Shoes & Mme. Crotch Fisher

Ep3 Maldives Island w/ Supersurfer Girl & Lobster Marine

Ep4 Panamanian Jungle Island w/ Redneck Puss & Bug Bite Girl

Ep5 Borneo Jungle w/ Amazon Chick & Dimwit Tarzan

Ep6 Lousiana Bayou w/ Snake Killer & Outback Australian Lady

I guess we're slowly moving towards the British model of less than ten episodes per season (series). Seen some of my other favorite shows take a dip in the number of episodes too.

Or maybe the logistics of a 21 plus day journey can only allow for so many episodes.

I think its a combo of all those types of things. They spent 126 days filming in 6 remote locations, & it's a 1st season of a show that could have gone either way in ratings. I mean, how insane is sending people into the woods naked?

Maybe if the show does well, we'll get more next time. There was an ad for a bonus clips show to air next Saturday night. That leads me to believe the response has been positive

There's a bonus episode up :)

Highlights & stuff. One clip showed the Africa team successfully hunting a little varmint of some kind, & goggle doofas whacked him a tiny birdy

I think that goggle moron was easily the worst participant, the least up to the challenge, despite having some bushcraft knowledge, & the team that had the hardest challenge was the swamp couple. There's just no way to articulate how much harder a survival situation would be, no less than ankle deep in bacteria soup. All the rest of the situations were bad, but Humans are not made to endure that

Hard to say who the best participant was, given how different each environment was. That Africa couple seemed to deal the best, even though he got an infected foot, or maybe the swamp couple, even though they almost had to quit, & struggled so badly

Frankly, I can see the Borneo couple finishing the challenge if dummy hadn't drank that water. The team could have made it had they not been broken up. I guess my favorite participant was the island surfer girl. She was just as adept as anyone else, maintained the best attitude, & I actually think, even though her partner thought it was a waste of time, her crafts were really useful. If I was going to be trapped out there with a woman, she'd easily be the one I'd prefer

And not just because she was the hottest. lol

So, I just found this quite by accident. Haven't watched it yet, so I don't know if it's any good.

New episode of Naked & Afraid aired a couple weeks ago. This time it's two male/female pairs at 2 different spots simultaneously, that then meet up half way through.

One of the women is total dead weight. Interesting to watch how the dynamic changed once they came together, & everyone came down on her. You'll notice that her initial partner seemed ill equipped when it was just the 2 of them, but once the pairs came together, he really shined as the group leader. Just goes to show how crippling a shitty partner can be to even a great survivalist

Well, new season started. Last week was the Amazon rainforest with skeeter bitten keesters & privates, & 3 people dropping out before they got 2 who could pull it off. This week Madagascar

What I'm beginning to tire of is that there seems to be an overabundance of lame brained eco-nuts who go into this thing overly resistant to actually use the damn environment to survive

The girl this week convinced the doofas to pass up a splendid bird's nest as a ready made tinderball, because it "Interfered" with the environment. Baby, we aren't tourists. This is not a safari. She went so far as to point out her philosophy "We shouldn't take it because we don't need it right now". She was even reluctant to rid their perfect natural shelter of Black Widow nests until she finally came around to the realization that not doing so could mean her ass

That's about the worst survival philosophy I've ever heard of. It's akin to saying that we shouldn't look for water until we're already dehydrated. In survival, if you aren't planning ahead to meeting your survival needs, you are planning ahead for something else.... being dead. You take the bird's nest. It'll make another one anyway. They spent 2 nights without fire because they had no decent tinder. One of the most important concerns in shelter is safety. Kill the F###ing spider sacks, idiot.

Don't get me wrong though. Dude was a doofas too. He ruined two different snake dinners from incompetence & set fire to their camp

You have to wonder though, just who these shows are aimed at - the 16yo in his bedroom, or the 90yo granny downstairs ??
It's aimed at me.
It is aimed at me too. I have been a 'camper' in various forms since childhood w family. I have been a "What if..... " camper since adulthood. I have been an extreme weather "What if...." person since adulthood. My "What if's" have grown exponentially with maturity and awareness of the multitude of weather Events where "I" go could happen around me.

I admit I do take "What if..." quite seriously, however, it is also like a game for me in that I find it fun to play.

In all the reality shows available I've only been interested in the "What if...." ones, and have, in the end, only stayed interested in Naked & Afraid because they put me in a viewing situation that I watch from a learning platform I find useful.

A lot of the time I play it on mute because I don't care for the complaining & repeating of sound bites that I guess a reality show generally needs for audience draw. :D I'm just watching to learn a thing or two. It is fun food for thought for me. Serious thought though.

(The only other reality show I have ever been interested in was that truck driver show when they were in India. Now THAT show kept me on the edge of my seat in a film scary way! I loved it. I also watched it on mute a large part of the time because the dialogue was repetitive complaining to me. But I never missed an episode, or even the beginning of each episode, and wanted more after it stopped!)
I will remember.

oooh.... I've known it was on but haven't been watching. A shelter with Black Widow nests??? !!!!!! Passing up tender because I don't need it right now?

And I 'would' be incompetent about snake eating. See, I'd watch this closely to learn from. LOL

(Plus I am comforted by the fact that there is always someone there who can help them in the end to not die or be forever damaged. I wouldn't be able to watch if I literally began worrying about their really real welfare. :D )
I will remember.
