This is a real thing?

Frankly, I always just take the term geek (When its synonymous with nerd & not carnival freak) to mean someone who has a pronounced knowledge of something, as in, computer whizzes are geeks, & so are motorheads or gun aficionados, history buffs, or whatever

Essentially, this can be applied to anything, and in no way can a person really look on someone who has pronounced knowledge in something as being inferior, unless it is threatening to them, in which case said person is the one suffering the inferiority complex. Realistically, the majority of geeky kids who get picked on or bullied are bullied by kids who are either jealous, intimidated, or afraid of them in some way

Geeks use their brains for stuff.

Interesting side note: In the surgical field, most surgical instruments are named for their inventors, but will get nicknames because the person's name is just too annoying to have to say during the operation, i.e. the O'Connor-O'Sullivan Retractor is almost universally nicknamed the "Irish" Retractor

Ironically, the most common grasper used in laparoscopic procedures I've heard called many things, including the "Alligator Grasper" "Crocodile Grasper" "Wave Jaw Grasper," etc...

But most often, I hear this instrument called a "Geek". I assume that it got this nickname because of how useful it is

It's also our wedding anniversary. We didn't plan it this way.
Once Ixalla was ready, Tathrelle cornered her. “Before we leave for work, I just want to tell you, I’m sorry. I guess I sort of shut down last night. I know you were in pain and I wasn’t too terribly supportive.” There was a wall covering in the main part of their chamber, something that Tathrelle hadn’t noticed before. She stared at it for a second and then shook her head.

Outside, a disembodied voice announced from a hidden speaker, “It is time to travel to all daytime places of employment. Transportation sleighs are available and ready. Citizens are encouraged to thank the sleigh drivers at the end of a successful transport. The government recommends haste, and requests that all pregnant persons be given preference for seating in their designated areas.”

A little distracted, Ixalla just asked, “Pain?”
