As police and the FBI try to piece together how the three women and a 6-year-old girl, who police believe is the daughter of one of the women, remained captive in a house for more than a decade in a densely populated section of Cleveland, the women were released Tuesday from a local hospital and returned to their families.

"The real hero here is Amanda [Berry]," Cleveland's assistant police chief Ed Tomba said at a press conference.

The women were identified as Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight. The three were treated in the MetroHealth Emergency Department Monday night and released on Tuesday morning. Authorities would not comment further on their conditions, saying only that they looked to be healthy and in need of a good meal. The women all lived within two miles of the suspect's home.

Sherlock... I mean... KHANNNNNNN

I caught the back end of this story on the news last night - it's crazy!

They interviewed a neighbour of the house where they were kept & she said that she'd seen a little girl looking out the window daily & thought it was funny that there was a child there but didn't say anything.

4 counts of kidnapping and 3 counts of rape doesn't seem to describe the crime.

It's equatable to a fucking POW war crime, like they were imprisoned for a decade in a rape gulag

I wonder how they came up with that number?

the women just released a video to thank people and say how well they are doing.

CLEVELAND (AP) — A man accused of holding three women captive for a decade was scolded repeatedly by a judge to raise his head and open his eyes in a brief court appearance where he pleaded not guilty Wednesday to nearly 1,000 counts of kidnap, rape and other crimes.

For the most part, Ariel Castro, 53, responded to the judge's questions with one-word answers as he faced charges that included 512 counts of kidnapping and 446 counts of rape.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Pamela Barker repeatedly told him to raise his head and keep his eyes open so "I make sure that you are listening to me and understanding what I'm saying, OK?"

"I'm trying," said Castro, who in past court appearances had kept his head down and his chin tucked on his chest.

One of his attorneys, Craig Weintraub, declined later to discuss Castro's courtroom demeanor. "I'm not going to comment on that," he said.

The charges returned Friday by a grand jury against Castro expanded on a 329-count indictment filed earlier that covered only part of the time frame of the alleged crimes. He previously pleaded not guilty to that indictment.

Live long and prosper.....!!

He behaved the way his attorney told him to behave - look contrite - but didn't make a shred of difference he still got his ass kicked, and rightly so imho. Now those ladies can concentrate on rebuilding their lives !!

me too.
and then they'd have to testify.
which adds to what they're going though.

They demolished the house today and one of the women was there. That's some sort of justice. He wanted them to keep it, heard he cried when he signed the deed over because he said he had some good memories there. Sicko
