The Captain's back...

As an American citizen this guy can say whatever he wants. The first amendment of the constitution allows him this right. However the first amendment does not protect his job.

Freedom of speech does not extend automatic immunity to the reaction of others. Just ask Ellen DeGeneres or Paula Deen plus many more who lost a lot due to things they said.

You realize that Mandela was a pretty bad guy, right? There's been a tragic revision of actual history in the media.

Look up:

Umkhonto we Sizwe

and

Necklacing

That's a daft thing to say. The more extreme acts of the militant ANC were no worse than those of any army in conflict, and pretty much all of them were carried out after Mandela was locked up anyway.

The peaceful political reforms in SA were nothing short of miraculous, and probably prevented a civil war as bloody as the one currently under way in Syria. I defy you to name a less bad world leader, living or dead.
Except that he did start the militant wing. In the two years that he presided over the MK terroist group, there certainly was kidnaps, torture and at least some attacks that resulted in civilian deaths. One would think that if his last name were O'Hare, he'd receive less latitude.

The ANC is also currently a just shy of a terrorist group more akin to the KKK gone legit. Read up about the murders of Dutch farmers since his freedom and subsequent tenure as the SA President.

Also, let's not forget who his wife is. That was his association by choice.
I'm astonished that you seem to think he got an easier ride because he was black. You can't apply American notions of 'political correctness' to Apartheid or even post-Apartheid South Africa.

The ANC used militant tactics when the people they represented had no rights, but if that means Mandela is a terrorist and a bad egg then so were George Washington, Simon Bolivar etc. In fact, while loyalists were driven from the country under Washington's government, Mandela made reconciliation a cornerstone of his leadership. The old saying applies: if you really want to test someone's character, give them power.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say about Afrikaaner farmers. Are you saying Mandela ordered them killed? Is he responsible for the fact that SA has been and continues to be a hotbed of violent crime? None of the white South Africans I know see it like that.

And his wife was Graça Machel, who seems relatively blameless. He divorced his more dogmatic previous wife pretty quickly when he was out of prison.

Do you dislike him because he was a leftist? He was never able to actually enact any of his socialist ideals because he needed investment from the US and Europe. Maybe then he is to blame for the violent crime rate, after a fashion. Such crimes are fomented by serious wealth inequality, which he was unable to address.
Has nothing to do with an easier ride...that was a reference to the IRA, nothing to do with US Politiking. The man went to prison... deservedly. Under him the MK targeted civilians, whether or not he specifically ordered, his silence on the matter makes him culpable, at least before 1963. Not very George Washington-ish. Lord knows that I have no problems with dissidents targeting government facilities and personnel. Lord knows, but the MK wasn't merely just that.

The the militants within the ANC continue to target innocents to this day. Much of that occurred under President Mandela, w/o much a do in the way of prevention or condemnation. At least nothing that I can find.

Winnie Mandela:

Quote:

She was married to Nelson Mandela for 38 years, including 27 years during which he was imprisoned. Although they were still married at the time of his becoming president of South Africa in May 1994, the couple had separated two years earlier. Their divorce was finalised on 19 March 1996.[1] Winnie Mandela continued to be a presence in Mandela's life in later years despite his remarriage in 1998. Indeed, she was sometimes seen laughing and joking with her successor, Graça Machel. Winnie could be seen almost daily visiting her former husband Nelson Mandela at the Mediclinic heart hospital in Pretoria where he was receiving treatment. Although they divorced in 1996, observers might be forgiven for inferring that they remained the loves of each other's lives to the end.[2] Of all the major figures who came to global prominence during the South African liberation struggle, Ms. Madikizela-Mandela was the most glamorous and the most at home in the world of celebrity culture - which is what made her fall from grace all the more startling; and for many of the years just before Mr. Mandela's release from 27 years in prison, she was his public face, bringing word of his thoughts and his state of mind.[3] She was South Africa most celebrated heroine, a woman so revered by her courage that she became the symbol for the struggle against apartheid, and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and offered academic honors abroad.

Except that she condoned necklacing, in which tires are filled with gasoline and placed around the shoulders of victims and lit on fire to slowly burn a person to death over a period of 20 minutes.

I don't like his politics, no. He was an avowed Marxist. But so are many others. Most my nation is. Mandela, however, is complicit in a failed party and a failed state rife with violence and remained quiet on far too many inhumane issues. I see that as the fault of those who we give power, however. Nothing unique to SA. What bother's me is how he is lionized. It's the farce that upsets me.

Look for Mandela t-shirts to replace the Che Guvera shirts that adorn the vapid unthinking masses of youngsters around the world.

BTW, all the importance of Duck Dynasty aside, any one hear how Nobel Peace Price winning President Obama murdered 15 Yemeni's this week with a drone strike. Civilian wedding. Good thing we have our priorities.

I dont really like what he said either... I know what it says in the Bible.. but it also says he who is without sin can throw the first stone.

The bible, as you and I have read it, is a translation of its original text. And its probably been translated quite a few times in-between. What we are reading is not 100% what was written as things sometimes get lost in translation. Hence why it is chock full of contradictions.

If not then we are to believe that in additional to homosexuality other sins, abominations, unclean and unnatural things are:

* abstinence of meat on Friday except fish, guess if you have a seafood allergy your going vegetarian
* speaking of seafood if it does not have fins and scales its a no no, hopefully you don't like shrimp, lobster, oysters and the such
* pigs are unclean, bye bye bacon and ham and any potbellied pigs you have apparently are not approved as pets
* tattoos, got em? Yeah, your going to hell.
* rounding the corners of your hair or beard, so much for the clean cut look
* don't gossip, well im a gonner I guess
* marriage after divorce, guess if your going to leave him and want some more dick down the road divorce doesn't cut it, death does though, aka the burning bed
* working on the Sabbath, ill let you tell the private sector about this one
* women speaking at church, you cant but you can ask your husband questions once you get home, sorry Gloria Steinum you cant speak but you can make me a pie
* not being a virgin when you get married, this seems to apply more to women as they get stoned to death if they have been deflowered prior to getting married, once again im a gonner good thing I can never be married off to a man in their eyes
* speaking of women, your all unclean, at least during your period, I know you get no say in it weather you get one or not but the bible says your unclean while its happening...

BTW, im not yelling at you Violet :hug4:

The point being is you are to take the bible literally then it seems it would be really hard to tote the line. That's one thing I don't get about religious fanatics. I have a friend who is devout Muslim. He doesn't break from his fast during Ramadan. He goes often to the mosque to pray. But he fucks around on his wife. I sometimes want to ask him if he just chooses what portions of his religion he wants to follow.

So what about this guy. The bible does not approve of idolatry. Well, he is an idol to many and he knows this. Also, hunting for sport. Im not 100 % sure but I don't think that is a commandment in the bible. Remind me again what it is this guy does?

Something that always amazes me is that homosexuality is mentioned a handful of times in the bible and the evils of money, persuit of money, the hoarding of monies is pretty much the entire new testament. The pope has started to bring that up and is horrifying people who have been claiming to be christian.

I don't think Jesus was a marxist. Most of that was about who your god is. God or your material wealth.

Anyhow, if anyone is curious about an actual "scholarly" argument on sexuality and the bible, check out libchrist.org.

Time magazine made him man of the year. They are not shy about being liberal either. So his denouncement of capitalism was enough for them to look past his views of homosexuality and abortion. They must hate capitalism.

he's not denouncing capitalism. He's denouncing the current system where some are making record amounts of money while the rest of us are living at a lower standard of income than 40 years ago.

any one hear how Nobel Peace Price winning President Obama murdered 15 Yemeni's this week with a drone strike. Civilian wedding. Good thing we have our priorities.
Bush lied, children died

Wonder what songs they will muster up for Obama?

Of course no one heard about it. Might make Obama look bad. The liberal controlled media would never put anything like this out. Just like all of the hate crimes being committed against Caucasians. They are not reporting them. But Trayvon Martin was on every media outlet you could find. Well, just the stuff they wanted you to know about him, not any of the uncomplimentary facts. Those were left out along with his current picture.

I remember early in the war in afghanistan the US dropped a bomb on some Canadian troops. They interviewed someone from the Canadian military who said essentially this was the price of modern warfare and it was surprising it didn't happen more often.

That involved Canadian troops who were shooting and full on exhausted pilots flying 12+hour missions, that reacted to a perceived threat to their lives. Still, I think the pilots involved were disciplined.

Drones, are something completely different. That bombing in Yemen was 100% lucid.

Also, look up the practice of "double tapping".

Drone pilots bomb a target, stay on station, wait for responders to clear rubble, and bomb it again, once the zone if full of people. Don't know which people, just guilty solely by association.

There is nothing good about most anything left unchecked. It is one thing to attempt and regulate something. Its another to tear something down.

That was probably one of the most disturbing forms of idolatry from Obamas presidency. Many still don't know about it. Could you imagine if those little kids were singing about Bush?

We can already hear the celebratory duck calls.

A&E announced Friday that Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson will be returning to the show after a brief suspension from filming triggered by anti-gay remarks he made in a GQ interview, and his son, Alan Robertson, released an exclusive statement to E! News expressing the family's excitement over the network's decision.

Our family has become even closer through the past 9 days and we are excited to keep making a quality tv show for our dedicated fans, who have showed us wonderful support," he began to state.

"We will continue to represent our faith and values in the most positive way through Duck Dynasty and our many projects that we are currently working on. The outpouring of support and prayer has encouraged and emboldened us greatly."

Frankly, I just consider that practice a standard part of assault now. I'm not saying it's right. Shit, I'm a damn pacifist really, but if killing lots of people is your goal, you couldn't ask for a bigger gift than hordes of high priority targets showing up to an established site of their own free will, rescue, medical & security personnel ripe for the plucking

Isn't that exactly what they did to the WTC on 9/11?
