As his mom it's a good bet she knew his mental state, and didn't like the idea of his being around young kids ??

But why kill his mom? his parents were divorced in 2009 & he supposedly hadn't seen his dad or older brother since 2010, maybe he blamed her? but like wissa said;their thought processes aren't normal.

His reaction to what set him off was not normal do to his mental illness, but something must have triggered it. Obviously he was exposed to weapons. Did he also play a lot of violent video games? I do think some sense will be made out of this, once they have all the facts and more details regarding his background. Once they figure this out, they may be able to predict and prevent similar behavior in the future.

The only games I like are racing games, the crazier the better. Right now, I spend maybe a couple hours a day tearing ass through downtown L.A. in Midnight Club for PS3 (& it is an exact duplicate of L.A. from Santa Monica Pier to the Hollywood Hills) I have trashed that whole city from top to bottom, & yet, never once have I ever gotten a real speeding ticket Because I'm sane. I'd need some serious proof that TV, movies, music & video games are in any way causal, to buy that theory However, playing video games all the time in lieu of living life or otherwise using these things as a permanent escape, is probably are sign that there are some deeper rooted issues going on Edit: Ps. In fact, I find that playing intense urban racing games actually makes me much calmer & more relaxed in real traffic than I use to be. They should work on using it as a treatment for road rage. Help those people to get their aggression out in a harmless way

I do believe that it is de-sensitizing people to certain things... there has always been violence and a love of watching it (gladiators anyone) but never so up close and personal.. so graphic and where you get to be so involved who is to say how that can effect a mentally unstable person. shit gives me nightmares and im sane

Isn't that the point? Who is to say how anything can effect a mentally unstable person? Some people can become homicidal after watching David Letterman. Is it Dave's fault? Of course not, but it's just so easy to look at a thing that has violence in it & say it has a causal effect, when it's relationship could be nothing of the sort Over all, my point is this. If all violent media were gone tomorrow, & all guns were destroyed, we would be absolutely nowhere nearer to diminishing violent tendencies in a portion of the population & therefore assigning blame to those things is not productive

Agree with Mojo, that even after a really violent game most players are more relaxed, not hyped-up and wanting to kill for real !! You could just as easily say any reason is to blame - broken home, not getting enough love or attention, their teddy bear falling in love with Barbie, whatever !!

As a result, they actually get bored with such things and find something else to go do on their own. I've never had to limit that stuff. I don't believe that tv or games will make someone violent either. I'm a big TV watcher and I love video games. I just don't have the time. However, when someone is mentally ill and possibly obsessed with violence, playing a lot of violent video games could be a cause for concern or a red flag. On the flip side, it could also be therapeutic as they could act out their anger and frustration in a safe setting using those games. So if he never played them, maybe he should have. Honestly, I think it's important to know what kind of behavior this guy was exhibiting that could be possible warning signs for the next person who might snap. I would like to know because there are some people who are not quite right around here. I would never shun those people, but it's always good to keep a discreet watchful eye and know the warning signs, if any. They said he had an altercation at school. Maybe the people he had the altercation with were rude to him, not realizing that it could be a delicate situation. How they might have treated him, had they only realized what kind of person they were dealing with, could have made a big difference.

Motherfucker! Guy killed his own grandmother back in the 80s... With a HAMMER! This has been a shitty couple weeks for lunatic gunmen. Mall punk, grade school creep, & now a firefighter assassin At this point, I'm thinking the holidays are more to blame than gun legislation. WTF is it about this time of year? Suicides & murders skyrocket
