He writes one episode per season. He used to write for the Twilight Zone and some show i've never seen called Beauty & the Beast, so he knows how to write for TV |

I'm now up to date on Game of Thrones. I like it but I think it's overrated- you'd think it was the second coming of christ the way some people go on. I'm still a bit undecided as to how much I actually like it, though I suppose I must like a fair bit to have watched the whole thing! It's sort of like watching a car wreck though; I know I'm going to be upset every single week by how much awful stuff happens to everyone I like and how nearly everyone is such an asshole which is really depressing but I can't look away. They've killed a fair number of people I liked a lot (Ned, Renly, now Ros goddamit) and I'm sure a few more of my favourites are going to end up dead (accidently read that Spoiler: click to toggle dies in the books, so I've got that depressing episode to look forward to) but I suppose there's no point complaining when it's the type of show where you know you shouldn't get too attached to anyone. My favourites are Tyrion, Arya, Daenerys, Jorah, Margaery and I kind of love Littlefinger and Cersei too in an 'in awe of their asshattery' kind of way. Actually I guess I like nearly everyone, because there aren't really any villains (except for whoever that dick torturing Theon is, and the dude with all the daughter-rape. And Joffrey of course) because they're almost all such horrible people that you have to either love or hate everyone. There are so many characters that look similar and/or don't have enough screentime to give you a chance to remember who they are that it's difficult for anyone who hasn't read the books to keep straight. I intend to read the books at some point, but it's damn annoying right now because I spend half of every episode going "who are you, why are you doing that? Oh wait, you're that guy, I thought you were that other guy, wait a minute now who are you then if you're not him? Ok, now I've worked out who you are it all makes sen- no wait a mintute WHO IN THE BLOODY FUCKING HELL IS THAT GUY?" and repeat next week. ![]() The 'everyone must have an English accent' thing is a little annoying to me, because it really shouldn't matter. I think everyone should either have the same accent or all different ones, rather than acting like it doesn't make sense to have someone with an Irish or American or any other accent there, but it totally does make sense to have members of the same family speak with vastly different English accents (I'm looking at you Stark kids.) It really bothers me when they do things like that, because I feel like it really has an impact on the actors performance if they're concentrating on an accent (especially if it isn't even convincing) rather than their acting. Like, does it really make a difference if Michelle or Richard used their natural Irish accents, when every Stark kid has a different accent anyway? Why would anyone care if Aiden sounded Irish? Littlefinger's not even related to anyone else and it'd be much less grating to listen to than his really quite bad attempt at covering it up. I nearly fell over laughing a few times in the last couple of episodes- I don't even know how it;s possible to get worse at an accent but he managed it, poor dear. Jaimie and Cersei already have slightly different accents and they're friggin twins, yet somehow someone in charge seems to think Peter's American accent would ruin everything? It just does not compute for me. Actors should be allowed to keep their real accents in everything unless there is an actual plot relevent reason for it. I see no such reason on Game of Thrones. /silly little rant edit: adds a little bit more to silly rant because I just remembered something that has always annoyed me. I simply do not get why Nicole Kidman had to try to sound English in Moulin Rouge when Ewan McGregor was allowed to sound Scottish and the damn thing is set in Paris and absolutely NO ONE uses a French accent (except for Toulouse, maybe) why did they think it made so much more sense for an entire cast of British people to move to France than for any Australians or Americans? Did they really think that being Australian instead of British would somehow make any difference to Satine's character? That's why I've always loved on House how unlike nearly everything else with a foreign actor, they actually let Chase be Australian. The actor is now on Chicago Fire and his attempts at an American accent make me want to claw my ears off. Attention movie/tv people, here's an amazing fact, people can actually move countries, most of the time it does not ruin the realism of your story to have foreign accented people around. /real silly little rant |

I think House might be a bad example, given the title character is played by someone from Oxfordshire. I see what you're getting at with the accents. As it's based on American books and not set in the real world, I would have been ok with them having American accents but that seems to be a minority view. All I would like is a bit of consistency. A couple of minor characters in the Vale had Welsh accents, which is a nice idea, but the main character from the Vale (Littlefinger) doesn't. Similarly some of the Starks have Yorkshire accents, some don't. King Robert and Stannis also sound like northerners but Renly doesn't. And the foreigners are even worse. Melisandre, Jaqen, Drogo and Shae sound foreign but Thoros, Varys and the people in Qarth don't. On another note I get very confused when people talk about actors using their first names |

I tend to ignore the accents. I think, in America, the view is that all this medieval-esque stuff (which is what most fantasy is based off of) took place in Europe, so European accents should be what's heard. American accents didn't quite work for me in Legend of the Seeker. It was odd and didn't fit the genre. And Stryder's accent worked well in LOTR. Who knows? On a side note. As far as the show is concerned. Bad spelling alert! Anything with Daenerys Targaryen is jarring and boring. My favorite stuff is everything North of the Wall, and anything dealing with Tyrion. |

True. But Hugh Laurie being British never bothered me , because his American accent was very convincing (to me anyway.) Yeah, it being set in a fantasy world is why I can't understand why people are so attached to the 'everyone must be British' idea. It's a medieval setting too, you could argue that they shouldn't even be speaking modern English. Heh, I kinda did that because I've had people think I was a weirdo for using character's names when talking about their actors. Can't win apparently

And at least half of the cast is Irish, which is surely a perfectly valid 'old world' type accent. But there's not a peep of it in the show. Unless you count Ser Davos' wandering accent. |

Wow amazing detail work. In some ways it reminds me of the level of detail that went into the costumes for the Lord of the Rings movies, they had workshops full of people just working on the costumes for months, or years, I forget which it was. But the results were stunning, and the cast appreciated all of the work as it helped them to get into character. I would imagine the same is true here too !! |

Just finished book three. I almost didn't, though. As they progress, the books get darker and darker. Almost to the point where I can't bear to turn the page. I started the fourth book and I'm about three pages into the prologue. Don't know if I'll continue. |

Once Ixalla was ready, Tathrelle cornered her. “Before we leave for work, I just want to tell you, I’m sorry. I guess I sort of shut down last night. I know you were in pain and I wasn’t too terribly supportive.” There was a wall covering in the main part of their chamber, something that Tathrelle hadn’t noticed before. She stared at it for a second and then shook her head. Outside, a disembodied voice announced from a hidden speaker, “It is time to travel to all daytime places of employment. Transportation sleighs are available and ready. Citizens are encouraged to thank the sleigh drivers at the end of a successful transport. The government recommends haste, and requests that all pregnant persons be given preference for seating in their designated areas.” A little distracted, Ixalla just asked, “Pain?” Untrustworthy - by me, actually. It's for sale on Amazon - Yeah, I'm a published author jespah My author page on Facebook Author of Untrustworthy I blog about Startrek fanfiction..Honk if you love silence. | |
