Honestly, it scares me a little bit. I mean, yeah, the prequels kind of sucked, but they were still set in the same universe with the same style and character types. I just have a hard time imagining anything coming out right without George Lucas involved. And also, the trilogy storie have been set around one character. The originals were about Luke, the prequels about Anakin. So, who would this new trilogy be set around? Luke's kids? Han and Leia's, maybe? Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill are not in any kind of shape to reprise their characters (especially Hamill. Have you seen him lately?! Sheesh!) So would they be recasting these parts? Talk about angering the fanbase! If they make it, I'll probably go watch it, but I don't have high hopes for it.
There isn't really a need to put the original cast in the new movies, casts are updated for newer movies all the time, like the recent Star Trek. As to the subject material, I would love to see something with the first Timothy Zahn trilogy, set ten years after Endor. The novels were "Heir to the Empire", "Dark Force Rising" and "The Last Command". "Alleigiance" was also very good, based on a rogue group of stormtroopers.

I too am worried, no company knows more about overdoing production and making people sick of sequels than Disney.

I have those books and they are amazingly awesome! Those would indeed be great as movies, but from everything I've seen, although I think most of it is just rumor at this point, they're planning to go with old Luke, Han, and Leia, and Luke's kids will be the crux of the story. Which means they're gonna completely disregard the books, because Luke never married or had kids. Han and Leia's kids became the center of all the books.
Ah, Kirk, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon proverb which tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It's very cold.......in spaaaace.

Ah. I stand corrected. I haven't read any of the newer books when Jacen Solo turned Sith and all that, so I missed the marriage and son of Luke. My bad, yo. lol

ABC entertainment president Paul Lee says he’s going to take a look at the long-gestating Star Wars live-action TV series now that the Disney deal to acquire Lucasfilm is complete.

“We’d love to do something with Lucasfilm, we’re not sure what yet,” Lee exclusively told EW. “We haven’t even sat down with them. We’re going to look at [the live-action series], we’re going to look at all of them, and see what’s right. We weren’t able to discuss this with them until [the acquisition] closed and it just closed. It’s definitely going to be part of the conversation.”

Even many working in Hollywood don’t realize a live-action Star Wars TV series has been sitting on the shelf the past few years. The project was commissioned by longtime Lucasfilm producer Rick McCallum, who enlisted writers such as Battlestar Galactica‘s Ron Moore and swore them to NDA secrecy on the plot details (more on the show’s storyline below). Fifty scripts were written. McCallum once called the scripts the most “provocative, bold and daring material that we’ve ever done.”

And then … nothing.

Sources say the live-action series centers on the story of rival families struggling over the control of the seedy underside of the Star Wars universe and the people who live within the subterranean level and air shafts of the metropolis planet Coruscant (the Empire’s urban-sprawl-covered home planet). A bounty hunter may be the main character. Set between the original Star Wars film trilogy and the prequels, the time period allows for all sorts of potential appearances from classic figures from the Star Wars universe.

i was thinking that maybe this might be to dark & gritty.
like they're going for that "edgy" vibe the studio executives
all seem to want these days. but i guess if you don't want
a star wars series to be focused on the jedi, there's probably not
much you can work with & still keep it somewhat familiar to the fans.

 I think he's a good choice, he's very talented & I'm sure will do it justice.

Or if all else fails - he can just cause an alternate timeline to happen & hey presto, he can do what he wants & it'll still be great!

wonder what this means for a third star trek movie.

I think it's kinda wierd that these two giant scifi franchises that owe their existance to each other now have this in common.

Lucasfilm isn’t kidding in its aim to pour all of its efforts – every fiber of the Force, every ounce of Stormtrooper chutzpah – into its revival of the Star Wars franchise. It’s even pushing back scheduled 3-D re-releases of prequels Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

The actors were perfectly competent, some of them were even pretty good. But they had awful scripts and direction courtesy of you-know-who.

I think JJ Abrams will do better with Star Wars than Star Trek. It's a better fit. I want another Star Trek TV series, but maybe not for a few more years until new talent and ideas have had time to emerge.
