Live long and prosper.....!!

Tried novel writing, and realised that I was better at novel reading. Much prefer playwriting, and had several performed on a professional stage !!

Yeah, Every two or three years, I get a wild hare and decide I'm going to buckle down and finish my spy novle or my detective novel, once I was gonna finish the Star Trek novel, but then I get started and after about a week, I'm done. lol
ever hear of national novel writing month?
it's a project to help kink your novel writing into gear.
No, I can't say that I have. I may have to look into it. It's been so long now and my life has gone so many different ways, I may not even be able to remember what I was writing in the first place! lol

That's cool, Spocklet! I've written some skits that we've done at our church Christmas parties, but that's about it as far as "plays".
Ah, Kirk, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon proverb which tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold? It's very cold.......in spaaaace.

That's ok dude, starting with small skits or sketches is a good way of getting into playwriting. Just like short stories are a good way into novel writing. You can progress into longer pieces, at your own pace !!

My problem with novel writing was I kept getting lost in detail, whereas playwriting is only speech and stage direction, and so you learn brevity !!

Hey I wanted to write a novel but didn't think I had it in me. So I started to write little things here and there but never thought of it until jespah read some of my personal stuff and encouraged me to try it.

And thanks to her, I LOVE it. She gave me the big push I needed to trust myself.

It's why I'm here. ;)

Novel-writing is rather different experience, I've found. It does require some planning. Not an outline, as if you were doing homework, but you do need an idea of direction. Otherwise you end up at Chapter 15 or whatever and suddenly you end up ripping up Chapter 4 because it no longer fits.
Once Ixalla was ready, Tathrelle cornered her. “Before we leave for work, I just want to tell you, I’m sorry. I guess I sort of shut down last night. I know you were in pain and I wasn’t too terribly supportive.” There was a wall covering in the main part of their chamber, something that Tathrelle hadn’t noticed before. She stared at it for a second and then shook her head.

Outside, a disembodied voice announced from a hidden speaker, “It is time to travel to all daytime places of employment. Transportation sleighs are available and ready. Citizens are encouraged to thank the sleigh drivers at the end of a successful transport. The government recommends haste, and requests that all pregnant persons be given preference for seating in their designated areas.”

A little distracted, Ixalla just asked, “Pain?”

Woof - even though I have an unnatural fondness for kibble?

Psst you wanna do a writing challenge here of some sort?

I've always found myself to be good with dialogue and stage direction, but the descriptive part of writing is what I really struggle with sometimes. Setting and describing scenes and characters, that sort of thing. The first one I wrote for our Christmas party was an abridged comedy version of A Christmas Carol. It went over really well!

A writing challenge? :mojo: Sounds interesting.....

I'll think of something - toss it out to the ether, probably not today.

Hey count me in, am always up for a challenge - especially a literary challenge !!

Evil - yeah detail was always my bugbear. I either wrote too much and it was boring, or not enough and people who read it always had lots of questions about it. Beauty of playwriting - there ain't no detail. Once you've set the scene (using props etc), you use dialogue to cover transitions etc !!
