Has anyone here seen the 1970's series Survivors?

Its about a virus which destroys most of Humanity, and a group of people come together. But they face the many other small groups, which believe they can take the law into their own hands.

Wikipedia

As the world's population is almost annihilated by a mysterious pandemic, accidentally unleashed by a Chinese scientist, the crisis is first seen through the eyes of two characters - Jenny Richards, a young working woman in London and Abby Grant, a middle-class corporate wife living a privileged existence in a nearby commuter village. As Abby goes in search of her son Peter, Jenny wanders aimlessly through the countryside. Other major characters introduced in the first few episodes are the resourceful engineer Greg Preston, the shifty Welshman Tom Price and two children, John Millon and Lizzie Willoughby. Abby, Jenny and Greg eventually come together and realise they must start again from scratch now that the civilization they once knew has been destroyed. After several adventures on the road, they find a property called the Grange which they can use as a base and, joined by other survivors, they form a potted community of disparate individuals all united by a shared purpose - to relearn the old skills of farming and tool-making, and to try to live in this new world.

A remake was made in 2008

This is the original intro...

It started out ok, but it all got a bit Daily Mail towards the end with evil trade unionists threatening the nice middle class commune the survivors set up.

The remake was just silly.

I haven't heard of it or seen it, but it sounds kind of like the 1980 film Virus, mixed with The Day After or Testament. I love apocolyptic stuff, so i'll have to check out 'Survivors'

Same here :idon'tknow:
The unambiguous and defined essence of a truest friend, is a single soul, shared in two bodies. A person who completes you so, that it pains you when they hurt, and sustains you when they are with you, no matter how far.

I remember The Day After - only saw it maybe once, but I remember liking it enough to watch it

Have you ever seen 'Testament'? It's really good, but extremely depressing.

I've only watched the first season, but I thought it would get a bit silly. I haven't watched the remake...

In the remake it's like the plague killed off everyone with an ounce of common sense. I've had a pretty sheltered life but even i'd cope better in that situation than those characters.

Live long and prosper.....!!

Apocalyptic-type series don't really work that well. In a movie they have to put everything into a couple of hours, and so it's a tighter storyline with less 'junk'. With a series though, they have to string it out over several weeks, and so they tend to look to current ideas and problems for content.

I too was around when Survivors aired in the UK and remember seeing it, though I have to say it wasn't that memorable. One prog I do remember from back then, was the effects of a nuclear war, and it's impact on the city of Sheffield and how the people coped with the aftermath. Now that WAS effective !!
R.I.P. Gummy, we'll miss you bro
