Avatar was an obvious remake of Pokahontas :rachel:
If that was true, then the original is so much better!

I think somewhere in the Old Testament is a passage that says "There are no new things under the sun." Taken in the context of having been penned a few thousand years back, that is the conundrum of art, religion and literature in a nutshell. Practically everything is just a more modern presentation of an earlier idea. Hunger Games anyone? I liked just as much, (which is to say, not that much) when it was called "The Running Man" back in the 80s. A lot of the music I love is just a more rapid presentation of classical guitar. I wouldn't call Yngwie as innovative as Jimi Hendrix, but I enjoy his style of music.

He's one of those guys who's handsome despite or maybe even because of his weight.

totally agree. And the fact that he is funny and that he laughs at his own problems. You can't not like him and to me that makes him attractive.

John Belushi has a pug face. The only reason Kevin James is better looking than John Candy is because as fat as he was, he never wore it on his face, unlike Candy who was a signature chubby face

Nick Cannon is too inarticulate to be an MC on America's Got Talent. Last night he said "Sing-ger". You don't pronounce the G doofas :waiting:

You know, as much as I love Close Encounters of The Third Kind, because it's a really well made film, at it's core it's really just a movie about a guy abandoning his wife & 3 kids to go to outer space with aliens, & it's not like he did it quick either. He puts them all through hell, with the kids crying at the kitchen table, & the wife packing them all up & moving out because he's scaring them all, & yet the ending is so grandiose & romantic, it's presented as though it's all worth it

It does present the alien influence as being somewhat all consuming to all the witnesses, so that much of it might be excusable, but when the time comes he gives no thought to his children before hopping aboard

Makes you wonder wtf Spielberg was thinking when he came up with the thing, & it paints a very different picture than E.T. (Essentially the follow up) which he did some years later, where the mom is single & raising 3 kids alone, like he felt guilty about the dad character in the previous film & showed something of an aftermath of father/husband abandonment

Curious

i think spielberg said if he had to do it over, he would not have
encounters end that way. he was a single man and not a father
at the time and thought like that.

I know. He didn't have his 1st kid until he was 39, but still, he was over 30 when he made the movie... I've always been single & without children of my own, & I've never thought it would be ok to have a father leave his children behind. Who would? Even a young single man without kids? I mean really  ...

I think dude musta had issues

that ending was always creepy to me. They just get on the spaceship having no idea where they are going.

It was actually just him (Richard Dryfus). He was the only one that made it all the way & they stuck him in a lineup of trained personnel, & the little aliens selected only him from the lineup

It was somewhat romantic, if you ignore the fact that he left 3 kids fatherless

I can't remember too clearly, but I think it was one of those situations where no one in the house even liked him. So I don't feel too bad for them. Maybe I'm wrong.
