What an ingrate! Turning his back on the cowboy way after a lifetime. He doesn't deserve to be in the presence of a man like Curly, who died! on the trail, because "There's nothing like bringing in the herd"

So on one side of the argument, outside in the fresh air and some beautiful countryside, or stuck in a mine with a lump of metal. Yeah, difficult choice !!

Ira & Barry Shalowitz didn't seemed overwhelmingly thrilled. They were like "Meh... it's cute". Whereas, at the end of the drive they were like "Holy crap! we were like real cowboys, and there was a stampede & we went through a flooded river, & Curly DIED! "

There can be only one

The results are in from the Blind Person's Golfing Tournament: The winner was Johnny Downing with 1,829 strokes, just enough to beat Larry Powell who lost any chance he had, when he took a 312 on the final hole.

In the movie MASH, there was a dentist, Walt Waldowski. They called him "Painless". I wonder why he was never included in the tv show

They dumped a few other characters too, but with good reason, Duke Forrest was a the third surgeon in the swamp. He was racist, & Spearchucker Jones, was probably not a good addition, either, for obvious reasons, but Hawkeye, & Trapper, Frank Burns, Henry Blake, Margret Houlihan, Radar O'Reilly, even Ho-Jon was included at first. Father Mulcahy was in the movie, but he was called Dago Red

But why not the dentist? You'd think they'd need a dentist

M*A*S*H was a popular show in my house. It had a unique blend, of comedy, and drama. The last temp job I had, I worked for a guy, who said that his mother had done some Broadway work, and she did a play with Alan Alda. Wild!

you think so. they only time that showed a dentist is when they needed a one-shot character. like when col. blake needed a new crown on his tooth.

other characters they dropped from the first few episodes were ugly john the "gas passer" & the nurse they called dish.

The movie I though was a reasonably realistic view of what life may have been like in a place like that, not an accurate representation of course, but knowing people they would try to find the humour in each day when surrounded by so much tragedy !!

But the tv show came across as a tv show, and didn't really convey the tragedy of war the way the movie did. Having said that though, it was still fun to watch !!

I'll say this about the movie MASH. I don't know how realistic the characters & situations were, but the surgical practice was perhaps the most accurate representation of surgery to have ever been shown in a movie to date, in 1970. It isn't overly graphic, but the implication of graphic nature is there. The tv show almost never got as involved in that, & they rarely even showed the patient during surgery.

The movie was also heavily laced with correct surgical terminology, right down to the names of the instruments the nurses were passing, which most viewers wouldn't even know. How many people know what a deaver retractor looks like? I wouldn't if I didn't have a job working with it.

Hell, even one of Hawkeye's jokes is so heavily medical in nature, it goes right over most average people's heads, & they miss it completely, but it's rather ingeniously funny

Frank Burns & Hotlips are having sex in her tent & Radar slides the camp P.A. mic in there. As he & others are listening, Trapper decides to share it with the entire camp & switches it over. While Hawkeye is in surgery, someone asks "What the hell is that?" & he replies "It sounds like Dr. Burns is conducting a little dilatation & curettage"

Now, I don't know about how many average people would be familiar with that terminology these days, but it's certainly more than would've been in 1970. Dilatation & curettage is a surgery conducted on the vagina & uterus, where the vagina is dilated & the uterus is scraped with an instrument known as a curette. He was using medical terminology to say Frank was introducing a widener to her vagina. I had never gotten that joke, (Couldn't even quite make out what he was saying) until about 12 years ago & I nearly pissed myself.

And one of the best actors of my generation. We all grew up with ''In the Heat of the Night,'' and ''Lillies of the Field,'' for example.
