For anyone who doesn't know, he's the original composer. He's been dead a very very long time now... since 1981

The original is beautiful. The first time I ever heard this was on Platoon. |

The techno version was ok, but the original is the best and really emotive. |

I will be bold enough to say that if the "founders" of so-called classical music were alive today, in their 20's - 30's and 40's, they'd be making electronica or a version of it. To me, it's today's classical music. |

I don't think so. You might be thinking of Silvano: Barcarolle by Pietro Mascagni, from this montage in Raging Bull, which is an excellent music selection & film sequence combination |

It's hard to say that with any certainty, especially when you have former electronic rock stars like Danny Elfman who have turned to heavily classical influences for his film scores. There is a multitude of varied directions that any music composer can go in this age, & for that reason, it is a pretty interesting era, these past 50 years of abstract growth I would say however, that were they around today, the greats of the classical & romantic ages like Mozart & Beethoven, in particular, would have no trouble accepting & perhaps embracing the directions that music has gone, so long as it is music which remains inventive, passionate, & masterfully crafted, which are some of the more prominent attributes that their own music embodies. They were, after all, forward thinking people I personally believe though, that what separates the great music of their era, from the great music of ours, is that music education played a much larger part in what was considered great back then. Mozart & Beethoven for example, had been schooled & composing since childhood, and all the great music of those times was crafted by composers trained extensively in music theory & history, for an upper class audience who was also educated in the arts. That is what makes them geniuses. It is music that holds to the highest standards ever conceived for music study & performance, and yet still manages to be able to connect with people of all ages and walks of life, regardless of educational background Whereas, in this age, the majority of the mass audience has no education in the study of music, least of all, in the disciplined manner that the classic eras did. Therefore, whether something is masterfully crafted or performed is not nearly as influential in what is considered great music. In fact, the masses grow further away from that understanding of the craft every day, which is how a thing like rap music can become considered great music, when only 50 years ago, it would have been considered nonsense by pretty much everybody |
