I was considering mostly fictional sources, which date back to about the mid-1800s. You could be right. I haven't looked into it that far. Other than that, I've always considered it to originate from Africa, with voodoo practice, but fictionally, the plague of the dead gets spoken of about as far back as Western fascination with the voodoo practice does

It's pretty vague :idon'tknow:

Everyone living the good life, just asking for an ugly reality check. Apparently, things are going to hell in a hand basket, almost immediately.

Frankly, I don't see how anyone left on Earth could possibly have a problem with Carol giving the kids weapons training. Imo, some of those older kids ought to get themselves out there on the fence line with spear

What do you mean? What are they like now, compared to before?

Been a lot of chatter about Phineas' death being related to the pig's death, which may be true, but it seems unlikely to be directly zombie plague related. It seems more likely that it was just disease or illness of a more natural variety, which in these conditions could become fatal, and that it's presence in the story is to remind us of the fact that the danger isn't just outside the perimeter wall, but lies one bed over, if anyone ever dies naturally

Someone raised an awfully good point over at TrekBBS. WTF good is having a veterinarian in the group, if he isn't looking after the animals routinely?

Streptococcus suis is a bacterial infection carried by pigs. Humans are infected most often through skin wounds or rarely by inhalation. The disease complications can include meningitis and be fatal. Good stock management to eliminate the agent in the herd and comprehensive personal hygiene are very important in preventing this disease.
Good stock management & personal hygiene... Yeah, our friends got nothing to worry about there, right?

well, he didn't seem to be spending a lot of time with the pigs, and people all over the world keep pigs under some pretty rudimentary conditions.

I think the virus has mutated to some new bleeding eyes variety that is possibly airborne. Seems more likely that one of the people killing walkers at the fence would get it, but maybe they have some sort of immunity because of their proximity to the walkers.

I think the threat of disease is overblown though. Isolated cultures are actually pretty safe from communicable diseases because they aren't in contact with any other groups.

and I'm freaked out by how loud they are now, and the bleeding eyes.

They've been taking in new people from all over for months now, & apparently the only prerequisite is, how many people & walkers have you killed & why. Fricking Mary Reilly there was from bloody Ireland. something zombie plague related being airborne or fluidborne coming into play now is really a lame premise, given how FREELY they have been exposing all their characters continually over the past 3 seasons

Michonne had her busted up head inside a puss filled zombie head aquarium. It's a bit too late for them to start the contamination fear, when they've disregarded it so long. Speaking of which, I don't think Michonne is going to have to look too hard for the Governor

yeah from Ireland 2 years ago. Or 3, I've kinda lost track of time.

I agree it wouldn't make a lot of sense for suddenly the virus to be contagious. But clearly something has changed, I thought at first the bleeding eyes was from decomposition but Phineous had bleeding eyes right away. And the characters keep looking oddly at the groups of zombies like they know there is something different about them as well.

It seems unlikely that Irish Mary would have survived this long being this crazy on her own. Unless the crazyness was a relatively recent thing.

"The Walking Dead" kicked off its fourth season on Sunday night — continuing the AMC series' record-setting trend with more highs and blowing all non-sports competition out of the water.

Averaging 16.1 million viewers during its inaugural 9 p.m. broadcast, the series was up more than 5 million from last October's 10.9 million opener. Among adults 18-49, "The Walking Dead" averaged 10.4 million viewers. That's an 8.3 rating in the key demo, making it bigger than any broadcast series this fall and even stronger than last night's competition from "Sunday Night Football." With adults 25-54, "The Walking Dead" saw another high with 8.8 million viewers.

I don't know, but some how they also seemed a little more aggressive. It was very subtle. That or perhaps it was just a bi-product of new season, new actors, new way of acting. But there as a very subtle increase in their aggresiveness. Maybe I'm imgaining it.

What's with the zombie w/o eyes? What's the importance of that? And dude, when you're stabbing zombies in the head who are on the chain-link, why would you stab one, pass like 8 and then stab another. Clearing that wall, even if there were hundreds, should only take minutes. 15 - 20 minutes tops.

60 seconds / 1 kill / 4 seconds (lazy pace) = 15 kills a minute.

300 kills in a 20 minute period.

Let's say you loose 20% efficiency over a 20 minute period.

That's still 240 dead zombies in 20 minutes.

If you put five people on that wall...

1200 dead geeks in 20 minutes. Why in the heck were there hundreds constantly on the wall over the period of the show?

Other questions:

1. Where is the "good" gas coming from? Even with an additive like sta-bil, gas is only going to last so long. After a while, it breaks down and you can't use it to drive anything. I'm pretty sure they're beyond the point where you can just salvage gasoline from anywhere successfully.

2. In this majikal world where fuel lasts forever, why do they always skip the armored vehicles? Those like Humvees that can run on MoGas, JP-5/8 or diesel. Okay, they're not sipping fuel, but at least have a couple in the garage for options. Sheesh.

3. How the fuck are there still gazillions of zombie walker geeks? Wouldn't most of them have rotted away by now? Maybe attacked by wolves, fire ants, the sun, Jesus and Obama voters?

Yes, I spelled it wrong on purpose.

Other than that, I still enjoy the show. Just wash Daryl would take a shower once in a while. Okay, now I'm done. Maybe not. Those two little gardens and one little pig ain't enough for all those people. The entire yard needs to be a garden.

Oh and this... ZOMBIE PIGS! (Not cops, the kind you eat).

Actually, I think her name was Clara. I just called her Mary Reilly, because she was creepy like Julia Roberts in that Jeckle/Hyde movie.

If you take her answers to those questions into account, then she's never killed any people or zombies. Eddie did it all. So his death is a recent turn of events, & likely her subsequent cuckooieness

Zombie decay rate was never going to be realistic. Have to get past that just to watch the show. You can toss it up as being plague related if it helps. Fuel decay rate on the other hand ought to be a bit more sensible imho

Yeah, the zombies are seemingly more aggressive, but it's more like they're just more of a threat than previously. The big change is there's a new show runner. It could all just be a new slant. I don't know for certain if there's an in world reason as of yet. Seems unlikely to me, but I could be wrong. I don't like the idea that contagion is so foreboding all of a sudden, when it was disregarded so much before

Yeah, they kill em awful slow for folks who've been at it months or years. In fact, a few have gotten squeamish, like Tyrese, who don't like being on the wall, & then don't like going outside the wall, blah blah waaaaaah sniffle. Hell, when we initially thought Crazy Clara was a walker, Rick was going to skulk away from it. Is he not wanting to confront walkers anymore?

It's like the youngsters are adjusting to being in the cold new world better than the elders, Carl, Beth, etc... I thought it was funny that Carl pulled the I'm the tough kid shit on those girls & they were like "Pfft... Whatever, let's go to our knife fighting class"

You know... I think I'd prefer for Daryl to not be the camp rock star. That kind of plot device usually spells doom for someone. Everybody's got BFs & GFs & iPods & pet pigs. Everything being the greatest it's ever been usually prefaces everything being worse than it's ever been

I'd rather Daryl be a miserable asshole if it keeps him on the show. Then again, it may not be him dying that pays the due on his good fortune... It might be him losing Carol

noooooooo he can't lose Carol. I thought that was all great just so we could see them together.

I don't buy the rock star thing though. They've all been at the prison 7 months, it's a small group, they would be too familiar to have that kind of hero worship going on anymore. He might be deferred to or looked up to but rock star? no way

I was just quoting Talking Dead. That's what they called him. Call it what you want, but people are clearly looking on him as one of more prominent messiahs of their group. It's just bad dramatic juju. Could be nothing though
