some are more obvious then others..lol

I dont know if these were re-touches that were actually used.. I think its more likely the site did the re-touches to advertise Photoshop.. interesting to look at none the less!

Ah yes, the wonderful world of retouching most don't get to see regularly.

Those three photos were done pretty decently, however, they really botched Madonna's hair as it really looks cut out and I was never one for completely removing the lines under eyes, as it just overkill and doesn't look realistic.... reducing the appearance sure, but not taking them right off.... though the camera flash does have a tendency of over emphasizing the lines under the eyes, even in 17 year old grad students, I've always personally found removal of those lines completely makes a person look a little alien, especially when they're not 8 years old anymore.

That and they blew out the white in the fur around Madonna.

In the second photo on her cheek, they should have left the freckles/moles/dimples-whateverthehelltheyare.... as they are a part of her... they're not pimples... reduce, don't rip them right off their face and make the person look like a friggin doll.

Added:

And just before anybody comes back at me as being somewhat arrogant or telling me to do better (As I imagine I do sound like that)... this was my job for three and a half years and I still do it from time to time.

^ This one is pretty ridiculous.

But this one is pretty good:

In that she still looks real even though they did a lot to the image like putting in a background, etc..... and I like that she still has eye lids on her face.

I retouch photos on photoshop all the time.. Ive made myself super skinny before...I read how to do it in the photo shop magizene...

but Ive never done anything as dramatic as these (for show)

the most dramatic thing I have ever done was take the bags out from under my moms eyes..lol

usually I just use the blur tool to clean up a face...

You may have noticed that a problem with the blur tool is that it makes the area you worked on fuzzy compared to the surrounding area, thus you lose texture/detail, which can be very noticeable, unless you decide to blur the entire face.

If you like doing retouching of photos, the Patch Tool is the best way to go. It blends much better then the clone stamp or the healing brush. Great for removing pimples, lines, stray hairs, just about anything.... just make sure you don't get too close to an edge with contrasting colors or it'll blur the color into what you patched.

If you want a decently effective manner of reducing the bags under eyes without looking too fake, duplicate your image into a second layer, turn the opacity of that layer to about 25-30%, then move back to the image below that layer and then use the patch tool to select the bags under the eyes and drag the selection to a cheek to sample the skin there.... while the bags in the bottom layer will be completely removed, the top layer with the original details will remain, but appear very subtle.... thus the person will look younger, but not fake.

Here's a pretty good tutorial for that if you like:

http://www.photoshop-gobart.com/tutorials/...s-uder-eyes.php

Some tutorials do not work for all images, and some tutorials are either too extreme or don't do enough for what you want..... once you get used to playing around with various tutorials, it's always good to modify the process to what suits you and your methods.

------------------------

Want to whiten teeth easily and realistically?

It's probably one of the more simple processes actually.... just select the Sponge Tool and set it's "Flow" to 10% and just brush over the teeth like you'd brush your teeth in real life. You will eventually see the teeth become whiter and whiter. However the tool will stop whitening after a bit during a one-click..... if it is not to your satisfaction, click and brush some more, but I find one application of this tool works fine. Be careful not to hit the lips, gums or tongue or they'll lose their color too.

-------------------

There's piles of free online tutorials for just about anything you want to do. Once you master them, you can do exactly what the professionals can do who paid 12 grand to go to college to learn how to do the same things..... which would have been nice if I knew that before I ended up as one of those schmucks who went to college.

Oh well, live and learn.

Oh and here's the main page to the retouching tutorials on that web site:

http://www.photoshop-gobart.com/photoshop-tutorials.php

I noticed many of their tutorials suggest using the Clone Stamp or the Healing Brush, but in most cases, the Patch Tool is the best and easiest way to go.... mind you I still use the Clone Stamp Tool... but it doesn't blend as well as the Patch Tool and after I use the Clone Stamp, I usually go back over the area with the Patch Tool to blend it better so I don't end up with repeating patterns. The Clone Stamp Tool is best used around areas that have those areas I mentioned with contrasting colors or edges that can screw up the Patch Tool.

I personally never use the Healing Brush Tool. While it's almost the exact same thing as the Patch Tool, I sometimes find it difficult to predict what it'll do and you end up continually having to re-sample different areas, thus wasting your time.... when with the Patch, you can just select an area and copy your desired area each time in less then a second.

Added:

Oh and if what you're working on doesn't look 100% perfect to you, don't worry.... you're usually the only one who knew what was done to the photo and the average person won't normally notice such things. I know I had a number of photos I retouched that I wasn't perfectly happy with, but others said they were amazing.

To give you an example on just how easy it is to progress with Photoshop and be just as good as the professionals, my mother took up photography about 10 years ago & I introduced her to Photoshop where I showed her how to do some basic fixing's for her photos.... she eventually picked up some books (online tutorials are just as good.... and free) and a few years back, she began selling her own calenders and photos.

Now her boyfriend and herself have their own art gallery where she sells her own photos and he sells his own sculptures.

OK, I know I'm whoring up this thread with just my own posts, but I also wanted to mention that imo, the hardest things to do are restoration of old photos or repairing ripped up photos.

Most are possible to do, but they require a bit of thinking and a lot more time to get done.... I guess they're not really difficult, but time consuming.

Here's a sample of a family photo I worked on a few years back:
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh104/P...us1/img-014.jpg

^ My Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles.

My mom scanned the photo and sent it to me on a CD a while back, but didn't scan at the highest resolution possible. For the best quality for your final product, try and scan the photo with the highest resolution your computer can handle so you have more information to work with. It's always best to work with more information then you need, then less.

Some who tried, may have noticed that 72dpi, 150dpi or 300dpi scans don't have much to work with and are quite pixilated.... when you're working with something like that, don't expect your final product to look that good. I personally prefer 1200dpi

I think I remember hearing about that.

I never found it that big/noticeable honestly.
