don't you guys have fund raising? Like car washes and bake sales?
You know, there are some words I've known since I was a schoolboy: "With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably." Those words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie, as wisdom and warning. The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged.

Ummm,

Canadiens don't "bake" the same way we do.

I would look at the program, who's running and see how much the admin is getting paid.

$200 seems really expensive. I don't think my parents paid the much for me when I played varsity at a private school (even accounting for the different era).

and if you don't volunteer 4 hours its $100 more. ugh

it is actually lower than some of the clubs here. All of them have been putting in artificial turfs the last few years to they can play more during the winter. Those cost a fortune. And they have to pay the city to rent the fields and pay for refs for each game.

and not a lot of fundraising.

OK, I am on the Girls Softball And Boys Football Administrative board so let me give off our examples.

1. Softball Registration is $110 per girl with a $25 discount for each additional sister signing up. Whats included is the insurance coverage, and uniform shirt. if you need uniform pants, or shorts, thats $10 extra. There is also a $20 family fundraiser Raffle, with 20 chances for either $500 cash, $200 cash, or a free registration for next season.

2. Football registration is $190 per child, $150 for another child, $100 for every sibling afterwards. Football has an annual touch football exhibition that anyone can join in for $45 a person. They also arrange a Golf Outing on the legendary Bethpage Golfcourse for $200 a head, that includes lunch and beer.

3. Both fields for Football and Softball are in one complex at the local elementary school, so we dont have to pay for field usage, we just have to arrange with the school athletic director for the time to use the fields.

4. I run the Concession stand for both leagues, so the leagues make good money off that - this is key, because you can make at least double what you spend. and we also make a good deal of money from concessions when we host one of the cheerleading competitions.

5. As administrators, we dont get paid - its all volunteer. We do make it mandatory that at least one parent on a team per field spend at least one hour volunteering as help at my concession stand - its just too much for have to prep and cook all the food, AND handle the window AND clean up afterwards...I go shopping to stock the place, offload and stow all the material....one hour per game for one person per team, per game is NOT too much ask....and we dont say that we will charge you more, but we do threaten to call your team into forfeit if you dont.

Some people complain, most dont. Most times I let people out after 30 minutes if its slow...if I dont need you, I'd rather you watch your kids play. and if you're the kind that is during it under duress or just being a sour puss, then get the hell out - I dont need you bringing me down, and being sour to the customers which are my kids (yes Ive known many of them for years, and as an administrator, Im somewhat responsible for their well being during game time, and they love coming there so I consider them my kids)

I started making them homemade Mac&Cheese, meatball heros, chicken parm heros and now they want me to get a slushee machine so they dont have to go across the street to 7-11.

The town legislature takes care of any major field reconditioning, like sod, turf, things like that while we take care of minor conditioning, so this helps the school keep their budget down, by letting us play on it.

Some of the moms have bake sales to support the tournament teams who need additional funds, and I can order 3-foot heros for $40 that I sell for $3 a slice to help fundraise.

Point being, there's plenty of ways to raise cash that doesnt involve raking the families that participate over the coals by overly charging their kids to register and charge them more if they dont volunteer time.

$200 per child with no discount per additional sibling is robbery...and for Soccer no less. Soccer sucks - I friggin hate it, and I hate it even more when the kids tel me they have to bail on a softball or football game because of a soccer game. We turn out more softball and football scholarships for players in school teams benefiting from our local programs, than any kids getting anything from Soccer.

The refs are paid from the money we make from concession, and if $200 is the cheapest game on the block then I'd ask questions as to why...There are many things people wouldnt think of....

cost of uniforms, field maintenance supplies, equipment, insurance, food, drinks, operational costs, gym time for practice, etc.

Feel free to ask anything else you'd like to know from the perspective of "my" side if you want to know more

oh I don't think anyone is getting rich off of this. But when we were kids the city paid for the maintenence of the fields which was a huge burden off the participants. Now the club pays for it all.

also, I think the season is way too long which doesn't help.

Well,

It might be a trade off then because you property taxes would be higher.

I was thinking and my school owned our own field so I'm sure the tuition covered any of the maintenance costs.

How long does your season play for?

Our local youth Soccer league is actually broken up ito 2 groups, Spring and I dont know for sure which other season - I dont care really, but I do know that its separate registrations for each so that helps to keep it down.

What we have done is to get all the local youth league sports groups - football, softball, baseball and lax to come together under one administrative head (Soccer didnt want to join because the guy running thinks he's Jesus and doesnt want to share administrative success) so that the local legislature and the school administration and board of ed can work through this top group, with the support of all the individual groups which is a huge part of the community they serve, and together like this we make a single strong cohesive organization out of our 4 youth groups that help get the school budget passed by organizing budget awareness festivals (which our leagues collectively pay for) and for renovation projects to the fields that we use.

The Town board agreed to buy up and school property that was abandoned if we could the community to agree to this proposal, and they will take ownership, demolish the building, raze the location to the ground, resod and turf the entire grounds, build 4 sports complexes on it for football lax baseball and softball, an indoor community center, a concession booth and bathrooms (we didnt have any on this field) and we got it voted in with a 90% margin of approval - We are the only town without a park complex of its own.

Soccer of course wanted to take up as much time as they could on it without doing anything to be a part of it, so now they can still play on their old crap fields and take care of it themselves without any help from us.
