Why I can't Enjoy "The Office"

This show has some of the most talented writers & actors on t.v right now, & it's setting & character development is so horribly true to human nature that it's overwhelming

but I can just barely stand to sit through an entire episode. I find so much of what I watch to be unpalatable. Sort of how some foods require getting accustomed to, and here's why

It seems the primary goal of the writers is to find the most uncomfortable situations that can be conjured, & revel in the exploration of its pure excruciation. They are brilliant at making you squirm

I want to watch, but sometimes I just can't. Here's a good recent example "Scott's Tots"

I found the same thing with Curb your enthusiasm most of the time.

Britidh ?? Oh, British, right. :violet:

Yeah, once, that was enough. Having worked as an admin, and been around those kinda guys, it seemed just too realistic to be funny, and I quickly switched off.

Also, I can't stand Ricky Gervaise !!

I tried watching the show once, but I changed the channel after about two minutes.

I didn't have a chance to comment on the stories, characters or whatever, because the thing that turned me off was the constant camera movements & shaking.

Frig Documentary shows have better camera stability and consistency then that show.

I mean in the span of two minutes I think the cameras switched 15 times.

First you'd have an over the shoulder view, which some drunk camera man trips and the camera zooms in, bouncing wildly into whoever is talking, blurs, then clears up, only to instantly jump to another camera angle, pull out to show everybody with the same jittery motions of unfocused viewing, then jumps to another angle of someone's face up close and while nothing is even happening to that person and they may not even be saying anything, the camera's still friggin swaying like the camera guy has to pee or something.

Frig I can handle jittery camera scenes and motion, and I can keep up with the best of them.... but even I started getting a friggin headache trying to watch that show.

And it's not like there's bullets flying around or they're being chased by rabid bunnies...... they're all in an office talking to one another..... if you want the show to seem dynamic and exciting, there's better ways then shaking the camera around like an Attack on the Enterprise.

Worst Camera-Work, E'var!

Mojo my brother loves that show, and so I watched a view episodes after he raved about it. Like you, it just makes me too uncomfortable and at times it's incredibly boring.

I haven't watched the British version cuz I dislike Ricky Gervais.

Now, I hated Coupling when it was introduced here, but LOVED the British version.

One of the only network shows that I actually watch besides L&O. Otherwise it's sports. I like the Office. Michael Scott has got to be the worst boss ever without trying to be the worst boss ever.

Nope never seen the British one. Might try it at some point, but I enjoy the comedians on the American version. There's some really funny people on that show. Like I said, the talent isn't in question, the subject matter just always make me very ill at ease

Love the Office. Wasn't taken in with the British version, but Risk's proomos for the British version crack me up - "I've been told it's the best thing since the American version."

I was first brought in my the pranks that Jim and Pam played on Dwight. Michael does have a lot of uncomfortable situations, but seeing how he rationalizes everything makes it humorous in a way that makes me laugh and double check that I don't do the same.

I love The Office to! How unbelievabley, unpolitically correct can that dopey boss get. I love Jim. He and Pam are the only rational ones. I am also a big fan of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'.

And....the kids!

Sorta like how Who's Line is it Anyway was ripped off from the British one (Which got away with a heck of a lot more things then the Disney version)

Kinda reminds me of back when Johnny Cash redid Hurt and everybody started saying "Wow, Trent Reznor/NIN did a good cover of Cash's song."

did anyone see ricky gervais on 60 minutes?
(or was it dateline?) he's making a boatload of money
off of the office. there's like 5 different countries with
their own version & he gets money for every episode aired.

That's what is so funny about his ads. He says it and then just shoots out a deadpan face as if to say "I can't believe they think I am following that Steve guy!"
