A lot of classic Hollywood gone this year. This is TMC's memorial for the year. Odd that they left out Paul Walker

Crap, they won't allow embedding, guess you gotta go to youtube to watch. It's worth it

Live long and prosper.....!!

British actor Lewis Collins passes at 67. Not a very prolific movie or tv actor, he's best known for his tough-guy roles in Who Dares Wins (the motto of the SAS, of which he was a member) and an agent in the series The Professionals (along with fellow actor Martin Shaw). He had cancer !!

Why do these headlines always read, "Celebrated Legend Loses Final Battle..."?

Why not, "Stupid Fucker OD's doing something that we all know is fucking stupid. Wasted talent"?

Besides, I couldn't really say he was a legend. He was a talented actor. Peter O'Toole is a legend & he also had addiction problems. Being a legend goes hand in hand with having a legacy, which usually requires getting old while doing something that will be remembered through the ages

My title would be "Hoffman's candle finished burning at both ends" That's it, a bleak pointless epitaph for an empty death of someone who had special talent. 46 is a pretty good run under the circumstances. By then you either sort your shit out, like Robert Downey Jr, or are already long dead

My only wonder is how people like him & Heath Ledger are alone! in a hotel room or residence, with nothing but them & enough time & drugs to kill themselves 10 times over

Where the hell are all the people who a person of that stature can't possibly go a day without seeing? It's always the same thing from all of them. Died alone in their place or hotel room, & were found the next day or two afterward. Bieber's got 30 people around him every second of the day. That's why that little shit will never die

I can't get out of my car without seeing 100 idiots poking away at their cell phones, & these people are nobody special at all. Yet, if they weren't there to respond to a text within the hour, somebody would be wondering wtf is up.

Somewhere along the line, these famous people lose themselves to addiction & somehow retreat away from all the people in their lives who would otherwise be around long enough to know tonight could be the night. That should be a red light going off to anyone who is close to him. "Why the fuck do we never see Philip anymore? Maybe he's disappeared to shoot up, & we should help the poor bastard?"

At least River Phoenix I can understand. Too much excess in an environment that is built for people to die from excess, but dying alone when you are a world renowned individual makes no sense to me.

I think they isolate themselves. And really, you don't know how someone can get a few minutes to themselves? I don't think it takes long to shoot up. Or that many people know that someone is using. Heroin is a drug that people can be addicted to and still function fairly well.

apparantly he had been clean for years and just recently started using again.

Well then he threw himself back into it with quite a lot of vigor if he had 50 bags of it in his possession

All I'm really wondering is that if famous people lack quality relationships who might intervene, & are instead surrounded by leeches & fair weather friends. Most people with quality relationships in their lives would be noticed if they were clean & then suddenly weren't. I'm no expert though

Nothing wrong with isolation, it can be quite stimulating to spend time on your own. Especially when you're surrounded by people all the time, isolation is something you can appreciate !!

Most songs, works of art or scientific breakthroughs were made by someone who locked themselves away, it gave them the time and the space to concentrate - without interruptions - on what they were working on. So if Hoffman locked himself away with a movie script - or 50 bags of drugs - it's understandable, most works of genius came from someone on a drug-fuelled odyssey well away from other people !!

i saw an unauthorized tv movie about her early career in 2001 called child star: the shirley temple story.
she was really 4 not 3 when she started, the studio said they could get an extra year out of her career if people thought she was younger & her dad blew threw most of her money. every time she got a raise, he bought a bigger house & car.
