Exceeding Normalcy?; When "interests" go to far

When do interests cross the line of becoming not healthy?

And by interests it can be ANYTHING that makes an individual curious.

  • Sport
  • Actor/Actress
  • Job
  • Porn
  • Cleaning

There's just a few of the possibilities, ones we would most likely be most familiar with.

Sport could include playing it so often that they never have time for family or to even date if they are single.

An actor/actress would, imo, become not healthy when you stop admiring just their work, and making them a part of your life. Such as if you are an artist, somehow all your work has something that is a reflection of them, your ideal "traits" would all be based on them, etc.

I have a friend who I swear has fantasy actors to avoid the reality of actually having a mate. Meaning that it's safer to draw them, design clothes for them, watch their films over and over and think their characters are somehow a part of who they really are, instead of taking a chance on life and love and getting out there with someone.

Know anyone with an interest that goes beyond what would allow them to have a normal and happy life?

When one becomes so obsessed with it that it consumes everything that you think, say or do in every moment of your life.

Does that happen with porn? :rachel:

When you use it as singular a way to define yourself rather than merely being something, one of the things that make up the wonderfully complex persons we are.

Who comes to mind is that woman who went to court wearing her starfleet uniform.

Or, a person I knew in the Marine Corps (that I hated, hated with a passion) who could only hold a conversation with you if you were talking about sports to some degree.

One of my Deputy Chiefs only wanted to talk about hunting and fishing.
I couldn't get him to talk about work unless I put a gun to his head.
Thank Sweet Jesus he retired. :pinch:

I know religious folk like that too.

Sadly my mother is quickly becoming like that.

Almost every conversation is turing faith based these days.

My Mom does that, and then she also does it with her radio shows too.

I'm sure one day she'll be telling me about all the problems she see's in poor people lives, how she hopes things turn out right for them and its' really a soap she's been watching on tv.

Her radio shows?

She's pretty much believing anything and everything a certain radio host says. Brainwashed.
