so Jacobs brother died and was replaced by the smoke monster?
Jacob let the smoke monster out by pushing his brother into the light cave?
and the smoke monster retained the fact that Jacobs brother couldn't kill Jacob, he had to have Ben do it?

I think I may be more confused!

Glad to see Allison Janey though! shes a great actress!

That episode covered a lot of ground. I'm surprised that a show was able to keep me that captivated with characters I know.

I think the brother became the smoke monster. It was disregarding the body.

What is odd about the brothers is that they went from Jacob being the loner and the other wanting to be around people to Jacob wanting to bring more people to the island. I guess that could be curiousity from growing up alone versus spending 30 years with other people.

so you think that the brother became smoky.. and no longer needed the physical body... he just used his own old likeness when it suited him?

guess that makes sense

Pure speculation, but it probably was hard for him to hold a human form. It seemed he only met his brother with that form after smoky on an infrequent basis. Then, when he became Locke, he had to lock in (ha) to a form to keep a body for that long.

Sad that Jacob and the smoke monster never really knew about the island either. Did we get a time frame for when they were born? My screen was frozen at the beginning.

Also, mom took out a lot of people. Maybe a little smoke in her, too?

the mom was a balance of good and evil and it was split in her children?

I think smokie is the brother released as well. But I think he can just only take on one form at a time. Now he is locke and he can still be smoke but can only take the form of locke.

we never learn his name though.

Jacob and Man in Black are Jacob and Esau From the Bible. In the Bible Jacob and Esau are the sons of Isac and Rebekah. When Rebekah was pregnant she could feel the two boys fighting before they were born. (Much like Jacob and Man in Black fight now). She asked God what was happening and God said that they will become the fathers of two nations. (Keep in mind the recruiting That MIB is doing) He also said the two nations will struggle with each other. One will be stronger than the other. The name Jacob means thief. (Keep in mind the theory that Jacob is responsible for bringing the losties to the island, "Stealing" them from their lives.)

I see the mother as more of a mother nature figure though. And I thought Jacob was brining people to the Island to prove to smokie that they are evil.

Many of the world's people believe that the world is woven and that a weaving Creator wove its designs into being. Compare the Navajo legend of the Spider Woman, of Teotihuacan origin.

there are myths all over the world of dieties weaving.

It's Christmas!

Now we see the mystery unfold! It is about time we see where the smoke monster come from and how it got to Jacob and his brother. Interesting at how those people in the village were all killed and who would possibly killed them all? That woman could not do it all herself, could she? :mojo: That is a mystery to me.

she must have also been smoke. And why she told Jacob to go into the light was worse than death. And why she thanked smokie for killing her.

Im so confused with this...

To become the smoke monster is the death of your original body...right?

yes. But she could have taken her old form just like the black man did. And that would be why she had to steal a baby

She could have been the smoke monster, Wissa. The mystery is a mystery, the show keeps us in suspense! We want more to see where this is going.

yes. But she could have taken her old form just like the black man did. And that would be why she had to steal a baby

so technically there could be two dead bodies of her out there?

not that its important.. just trying to wrap my mind around it

that's right. she died and her body was there. Maybe if they die in human form that is the way they stay.

The jacob and esau parallel stops at one being named jacob. They could have at least gotten the birth order correct.

I'm not buying the direct christian parallel either. I think it's more of a mythological theme.

I was thinking today though. These mysteries should have been explained all along. Think of how much more depth the show would have had all along if we had seen this episode close to the actual finding of Adam and Eve?

and didn't Jack and Kate look YOUNG? :liz:

...........................

Well............. way back in season one, Locke said he "Looked into the eye of the island" & he claimed that it was beautiful. He also later recounted his experiences, by saying to Eko, that he saw a bright light. I suppose that piece of this puzzle has become fully realized, at least. We have all seen the bright light now

The Adam & Eve reveal sure did seem awfully heavy handed, in how it was presented, but meh.... still pretty cool. I just think that this episode should have been shown a few weeks ago, especially being a stand alone episode. It would have fit in nice, either before or after "The Last Recruit"

I'm sort of mixed in my feelings about this episode. Did it reveal a lot? Yes, but it was also very vague about a lot of things too, & I'm not sure the less than 3 hours of actual footage remaining, is enough time to make it all clear, but who knows

I can't be certain that this will all end in a fully defined way. I am only certain of two things. One, many things will fall into place, when we finally have an answer to the core mystery surrounding the purpose of the island, & two, someone else, very important, will give their life, before this is all over. When I say important, I'm thinking Sawyer, Jack, Kate, or Hurley. I'm pretty sure there will be other fatalities too, among the remaining cast, but someone else in the final four leads will be sacrificed, but as always, I could be wrong

I am now officially done theorizing, about LOST, forever :lus:
