And christian meeting sawyer in a bar. Or even the whole coffin thing and jack seeing his father everywhere. Why build that back story if he was going to die early. On my lost DVD's... they do a whole thing in the extras about jack dying. they said the changed it because the test audiences where pissed.. they had spent the whole episode investing in his character.. just for him to die in the first episode.

I had read they had the whole first season planned when they started. It isn't like a regular show where they kinda go week by week. Maybe in the early planning stages they had plans on killing jack but by the time the pilot was written they must have changed their minds. Why would they introduce the dead father/ghost if they just planned on getting rid of jack? Most of that could have been easily transferred to the pilot himself. They didn't put a new face into that position, they took one of the support characters from Alias (now the guy on Heroes) so they probably had everything lined up to be connected to him. I wonder if he fired his agent for getting him a headliner gig that got completely upstaged in the first episode.

They want to kill him, they want the truth out of him, then they find out why he was there on the island. They did not believe anything or their future for that they cared. Now.... I have to wait til next week to see the rest!

Maybe something similar happened to Ben, where he didn't die, even though he should have, just like all the ways that Michael should have died, but could not

Ben will return to Dharma, as an Others operative, which is what will bring about the purge 2. When Ben first met Richard Alpert, Richard was a long haired pirate clothes wearing Richard. that had to have been in the seventies. However, when Locke meets Richard in the fifties, Richard is like he is now. I'm thinking that the Richard in the fifties is actually older than the Richard that Ben first met in the Seventies but then why did Richard seemingly not remember Ben when Sawyer just brought him there? Perhaps there is something about this memory loss thing, that Richard just mentioned, going on. Ben seemed genuinely surprised to see Locke alive. Something has brought John back, perhaps just like it brought young Ben back
