I have no idea where you got any of your times, but I don't think Ben quite fits the mold of someone getting a funeral announcement.

Yeah, but it was a very low key thing. A tiny snippet obituary, & a single showing, where no one shows up. just a theory

Sun's flash forward - 7 months from now, as she is now 2 months pregnant. About July 2005

Kate's FF - roughly 20 months from now, as Aaron is now about two months old, & he looks like almost 2 years old in the FF

Jack's FF - April 2007, according to the newspaper with the obituary

Hurly's FF - some time before Jack's FF, but after Sun's

Sayid's FF - Unknown, but if Ben is in the coffin, then it would be before Jack's FF

The paper actually showed April, 2007? I thought they kept it a secret that it was actually fast forward until the last scene.

The geek world has done extensive studies

Plus the phone he uses to call Kate is a 2007 model :liz:

My jaw has just hit the floor.

It does say the name starts with a "Jo" though.

Yeah, I forgot about that :mojo:

It also mentions a mom at the end where normally they mention the living relatives :o

Edit: that's kind of stretching it though

Why is it stretching it? Because John wanted to stay?

Remember, Hurley came back too and he was with John. Ben probably tricked him.

The circumstances surrounding the death of the coffin occupant (Whose last name ends with ??antham) are somewhat suspect of foul play. The doorman heard noises coming from the scene where the body is found, according to the article. So, who would want Locke dead, if he's no longer trying to control the island?

Plus, my whole theory of Ben being in the coffin began when I first noticed how small the coffin is.

Jack & John are about the same size (Near 6') & that coffin looks too small for them, but maybe not for Ben (Maybe 5'7 or so)

Just a shot in the dark though. Besides, Jack looks there like the kind of depressed where he might be realizing that if it is Ben in there, so goes his last chance to ever get back on the island. Thus, he's not really mourning the body in the coffin, but rather feeling sorry for himself, as he's prone to do

Edit: Matthew Fox (Jack) & Terry O'Quinn (Locke) are 6'1", Michael Emerson (Ben) is 5'8". Damn I'm good

did you consider the possibility that they didn't measure the person for their coffin before they shot the scene?

My guess would be they used a show one from a funeral home, and perhaps they use small ones in the showrooms to conserve space. And coffins allways look too small for the people in them.

They give different coffins for 5 inches?

To get back to the island, Locke probably was talking too much.

And Jack could be depressed because he thought he should have listened to Locke in the first place.

My intuition just keeps pointing in that direction, & things keep lining up to support it. I keep suspecting that at some point Ben will be a sympathetic character, in oposition to what he's been up till now

It really is the only theory of mine I've been the most convinced of, but I'm willing to admit I could be wrong

I just don't feel that way

I could get fooled, but I still think Ben's in there, & that there is an increasing likelihood that Sayid is the one who puts him there :idon'tknow:

I agree there is a good chance it is ben. But I don't think the size of the coffin is a reliable clue.

Maybe not, but it's a detail no less profound than a crumpled up newspaper article

I'm out on a limb with this one, but the limb seems sturdy

Ben has people hunting him. A good reason to have a pseudonym, & a discreet hideout. The person seems to have died under fairly noisy conditions. Kate couldn't give a a crap at all about the fact that they are dead , & Jacks reaction just seemed to me to be one of self pity

Popping a pill over the coffin, & more concerned that it is his last one?
