the movie that started it all.
it was ok. i kind of wonder how the 2 planned sequels would've gone.

Caught this on Freeview !!

The plot - an 'object, believed to be extra-terrestrial in origin' is discovered in the Arctic, and a team of scientists are sent to study it and thaw it out. Also, a radio signal is received from the object, which on translation turns out to be a warning, but by this time the alien encased in the ice is all thawed-out and is infected with a kind of pestilence that destroys everything. The President of the USA, informed of this pestilence, is worried that it could destroy life on earth, and persuades the Russians to fire a missile from their sub and nuke the entire site !!

Ok, at first I thought this was going to be a remake of the Kurt Russel movie "The Thing", itself a remake of the original movie of the same name, and yes there are elements. But unlike that movie, where spores from the alien took over and mimicked life-forms, this alien (which looks like a refugee from the movie Independence Day) merely infects and destroys all life it comes into contact with, and so this movie is somewhat less gory than The Thing !!

The movie tries hard to build-up some tension, including conflicts within the group, but doesn't really succeed. The ending seems like something from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, including the hazy appearance of more aliens, as the remaining members of the group are taken onboard and the spaceship departs seconds before the nuke arrives !!

As a throw-away popcorn movie, yeah an enjoyable romp. But don't look for any kind of logic or accuracy, and other movies did this kind of thing better imho !! ***

Way better,I 've watched the first one am am slightly confused how they connect. The first one the actors take themselves too seriously. The second one is fun to watch.

It actually wasn't bad. Even had a couple genuine emotional moments.

A bunch of older teens play a computer game, but if they lose their life in the game they lose their lives in reality too, and must work together when reality and fantasy collide !!

Interesting premise, a tight script and some good acting by the relative unknowns, keeps the tension level high !! ****

Vampires Suck....it was a spoof on Twilight.

HORRIBLE about sums it up. I mean I knew it was gonna be a spoof but unlike the spoof on Scream, this was just stupid!

I got more on the dvr though :)

I watched Rise of the planet of the apes today.

Not seen the others. I remember seeing a really long trailer for it & thinking it looked really good but then I saw one featuring when the apes go crazy & it scared me a little, simply because I find apes & monkeys in general a little creepy as they are quite human like in some respects (I don't believe we evolved from them btw) So I decided I wouldn't watch it but was still a little curious, especially about the role I knew David Hewlett played (McKay from SGA)

But it started on sky movies last night & I was looking for something to watch while waiting for my files to convert & saw it was on. So I thought I'd put it on, even though it had been on for nearly an hour. It wasn't as bad as I thought, so I found it on Sky Anytime & watched from the beginning.

Loved it, found it fascinating, David Hewlett has a bigger role than I thought he had which was great & there's one scene that is very "McKay" & that just made it for me!

Definitely worth watching I think :)

Could do with watching the other ones now.

Updated movie follow-on of Romero's trilogy, sees humanity living in a walled city - if they can afford it, while the ones who can't have to fight the zombie hordes. Simon Baker leads the fighters, John Leguizamo leads a rebel band, while Dennis Hopper rules the walled city and Eugene Clark is the lead zombie !!

Has some good ideas, including a 'smart' zombie, but as in the other movies it has a "have's and have-not's" subplot so subtle it smacks you in the face with an iron bar. Having said that, taken on it's own merits it's a good movie !! ****
