Rio-What a great kids movie, although I'll never take Lionel Ritchie songs seriously again.

life in a day
youtube asked people from around the world to film one day in their life (july 24, 2010) and submit it.
this documentary is the result. pretty interesting, IMHO. although some parts of generic stuff, like breakfast
around the world go by too fast.

WARNING! when a white cow in bologna italy is shown, it's about to be slaughtered.
if you don't like that stuff, close your eyes for 3 minutes or so.
also a brief goat or sheep slaughter in a clip grouping.

The 1956 version of The Man Who Knew Too Much

Way better than the earlier one, though I found this kid way more irritating. And that awful song Doris Day sings! Kill it with fire!

I will clump North by Northwest, The Birds and Vertigo together:

I could've died of boredom and/or annoyance. I think there is some kind of curse on Hitchcock films that are in colour; apart from Rope and To Catch a Thief, almost all of them are fucking terrible. Oh and Rear Window's not bad, but I don't love it.

They all dragged on and on and on and on and on and had plots that either made no damn sense or didn't have a damn plot at all (Birds) and all of the characters make me want to punch them.

Anyway, Psycho:

Liked it better this time around. The first time I watched it I wasn't paying much attention and only noticed how horribly fake the shower scene looked. But when you ignore that, everything else is amazing. The sad thing about it being such a big pop culture thing is you would have had to have lived in a bubble to not know that Norman was crazy, so you can't watch it with the proper element of suspense. But still some scenes work anyway, like when Aborgast dies and whatsherface finds Mrs Bates' body.

I remember watching that shower scene in media studies & one lad all the way through just kept saying "she'd be dead by now!" rather annoying but totally true

Ah, I know! So silly. Either she would've been already very dead, or somehow he kept missing her, in which case she would've had plenty of time to run. Oh well, still a good movie.

Dial M For Murder ~ Loved it. But I wish they'd cast someone who could act better than Grace Kelly. I was half on the murderer's side, she's so annoying  The whole mystery was really fun too, and it wasn't predictable.

Rope ~ Would probably be my favourite if it had been shot normally. The stupid unbroken takes thing really detracts from it. And of course the censorship of the gay relationship causes some plot holes to do with motivation, but I suppose nothing could have been done about that. Aside from that, awesome story, acting etc. Wish it had been longer.

Marnie ~ For the time I imagine the psychological element was new and interesting, but now it's just so predictable and plot hole filled. Not to mention the rampant misogyny is a bit hard to swallow. Getting away with rape just because she's your wife? No. Just no. Ew. Ruins all possible sympathy for him.

Spellbound ~ Again with the outdated psychiatry, but I think it was done better here. Also, Ingrid Bergman is fucking awesome.

In Time ~ Good premise, but it was lacking something. Like an ending. It just sort of... stopped with no conclusion. It wasn't even a cliffhanger-y, leaving it open for a sequel sort of ending, it just stopped. Other than the weird ending, it was pretty good. Also doesn't hurt that Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Alex Pettyfer and Olivia Wilde make for very good eye candy :swoon:

Puss in Boots:

Really funny and entertaining! Loved it!

waking sleeping beauty.

it's a documentary about the comeback of disney animation in the late
'80s & early '90s. even if you're not a disney fan, it's an interesting look
at some of the....mind set, i suppose of the suits & various behind the scenes
people at the company.
I might check that one out.

The Help (2011)

I liked it better than I thought I would. I knew Mississippi was backwards but yeah... that backwards. And it's 50 years later from the events in the film and not much has changed. Although it will be a while before I eat Chocolate pie again.

Mission Impossible 4

It being a fourth movie, I was expecting it to be pretty terrible. but it was actually really good. Better than the third one (I haven't seen the first two.)
