The Eagle. Nothing wrong with it, just mostly white noise. King's Speech Very well done. Interested in knowing how true it is. Still left a bad taste in my mouth about royalty, but enjoyable movie nonetheless. |

Simon Pegg has been in a bunch. Most recently in Paul. Also had Run Fatboy, Run which was fun. He had a role in Mission Impossible. |

He co-wrote Shaun of the Dead, and also another film called Hot Fuzz which has a similar style of humour. He started out in quite a good surreal sketch show called Big Train |

MASH (without the marks between the letters interestingly enough) interesting how it's different (& sometimes the same) from the TV show. FYI there were a couple of trek actors rene auberjonois (odo) as mulcahy and john schuck (Klingon Ambassador in ST:4 & a few other characters) as the dentist |

I didn't care for Paul as much. Honestly, Shaun of the Dead is about the best thing he's ever done as a writer |

Shaun would be a difficult role to follow. I didn't know he wrote it. Is Paul at least worth a view for a couple laughs? |

Red Riding Hood Not quite the laughs you want for a movie like that. And the setting seemed out of time and place. |

The Red Violin The only person I recognized in this film was Samuel L. Jackson. Interesting to see different moments in history in different parts of the World as the Violin traveled throughout time with various owners. The movie really only focused in on four of its owners. |

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 It was a fantastic movie! It was everything I'd hoped it would be and more. Can't wait to see it again. The effects are awesome and the acting is too. It's the perfect end to the Harry Potter story. |

Deathly Hallows Part 2 Torn between liking it and being disappointed. There were great things about it, but then there was a lot that was...not. The acting: generallly no complaints The pacing: OMFG so rushed!! Why oh why is this movie 20 minutes shorter than most of the others? That extra twenty minutes could have made the difference between this being a good film and it being a great film. CG: For a series that has made as much money as it has, I really expected better. The dragon was amazing, but the fire and flying in the Room of Requirement was shockingly bad. I swear the flying looked faker than it did in Philosopher's Stone. I'm also just generally annoyed at how much was cut from the battle i.e no house elves, Grawp, Buckbeak, centaurs. It's not like they couldn't bloody afford a little extra effort. Storyline: I'm ok with pretty much all of the changes, except the ones concerning Neville. That stupid cheesy speech to Voldemort? The stupid extra amount of time before beheading Nagini? The cutting of his best line: "I'll join you when hell freezes over. Dumbledore's Army!" The addition of a relationship with Luna which had so much potential to be cute, but then it goes nowhere! Ugh. Filmmakes, why you do this?! Also, that stupid duel with Harry/Voldemort, with them running around the castle and jumping off and turning into smoke. No. So boring. So stupid. So pointlesss. And I wouldn't have minded if the movie had been twenty minutes longer. But as it was, that bit just wasted 10 minutes that should have been about something in the actual goddamn book. The scene with Ron/Hermione in the Chamber of Secrets. I was so glad when I heard they were adding that scene and then...it was kinda boring. Seriously, Horcrux? You're going to try to kill them by...raining on them? And then the kiss was a letdown because it was shot from such a stupid angle you couldn't even see either of their faces/lips. The people responsible for directing/editing that should lose their jobs. Trio dynamics: Once again I feel the filmmakers were pushing the Harry/Hermione angle and leaving Ron out. I was particularly irritated by the goodbye scene, in which Hermione and Harry hug for ages and Ron stands there blankly like he doesn't even know Harry. Of course, the movies been reducing Ron to the comic relief side kick since PoA, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. The battle itself: Way too short. You hardly get to see anyone doing anything. It's just the Trio running around with some redshirts dying in the background. You don't even get to see Fred/Remus/Tonks fighting before they die. There was an ad for the videogame just before the movie screened. The battle in that was better. I'm not even fucking kidding. Also the Molly/Bella duel seemed horribly short. Not to mention the fact that Molly looked scared/hesitant, when she was supposed to furious/determined. She looked scarier when she was yelling at Fred/George/Ron stealing for the car in CoS.I don't know why they had to change the Malfoys' ending. It was alright, but dammit it was better in the book. I don't mind storyline changes, but I get mad when they change characters. The movie made Draco look a bit more sympathetic than he was supposed to be and made Lucius look like more of a dick than he's supposed to be. Then again, the movies have always made Lucius look like more of a dick than he's supposed to be (like hitting Draco with his cane in GoF and trying to AK Harry in CoS. WTF?) And there was just not enough focus on the deaths. I know there wasn't much in the book either, but jeez, they're not afraid to change everything else and add things that weren't in the book, why in hell did they not do it this time? We even got to see more of Lavender's death than any of the freaking main characters. Cutting Dumbledore's backstory: Couldn't care less either way, but if they were going to cut it, why on earth did they ever mention any of it in Part 1 anyway?!?! That scene with Aberforth came off as ridiculous, because the movie gives you no idea what they're on about. Aberforth is just cryptically bitching about nothing. It was incredibly bad story telling. They may as well have just cut everything about it from both parts and used to time to discuss something else. Teddy Lupin: Why was he mentioned once? They should have done it properly or not at all. I assumed there was no Teddy in movie-verse, and then all of a sudden "Remus, your son..." Half my cinema just went "Huh?" No mention of him for 1 and a half movies and then all of a sudden he pops out of nowhere. He wasn't even in the epilogue.I understand movies and books are different things. I understand it's an adaptation. I understand they can't put every single thing from the books in the movies. I understand they have to change and cut things. But completely unnecessary changes like most of these seem like they are just spitting in the face of book fans. One change I absolutely loved however, was crazy, happy, unstable Voldemort. People are whinging that the main villain shouldn't be comic relief, but I think he managed to be funny and scary at the same time. He had so many great moments: the 'Harry Potter is dead' laugh, AK-ing Pius for no reason, bitch-slapping Lucius, hugging Draco, shoving Bella over. Epic. ![]() Anyway, despite my long winded complaining, I did like it. I just didn't love it. Maybe the disappointment will die down after a few more viewings. I now like GoF, OotP and HBP more than I did the first time, so hopefully the same thing will happen here. |

Wow, that was a much better review than mine You bring up some really good points that I hadn't thought about. I also felt it was kind of short...Several times I thought, "oh, we're already to this point?" and when it was over i thought, "oh, it's over already?" I liked the CG...of course I saw it in 3D so that might have made it look different. Plus I'm old, so I'm more impressed by CG. In the scene where Harry's saying goodbye and Hermione hugs him, I totally agree that Ron didn't react at ALL! I also found that very awful. I also agree that it was very hard to see who of the main characters had died...they were shown very briefly, but it wasn't talked about at all. And you're right, Teddy was mentioned once and it probably REALLY confused people who didn't read the books. I still loved it, but you're right, there are some major missteps. |
