Little Fockers

lame. One too many trips to the well on this one. And they ended it by setting up yet another one.

Skyline.
If the Borg were real and came today, they'd probably look more like this than in Trek. Story itself was nothing new. Decent enough for what it was.

Just Go With It

It was reasonably good. The story was a little predictable and the ending rushed, but it was ok.

octopussy

the next to the last of the moore bond movies. this time he's in india & runs into his near equal; octopussy the female head of an all-woman smuggling group. the plot is that a russian general is plotting to set off a nuclear bomb on an airforce base in west germany (remember that country?) in order to force nuclear disarmament of western europe so the soviets can take over.

if you've read the novels by fleming, you can pick out the bits that ended up in the movie.

another popcorn muncher.

I have to say the Roger Moore movies are my least favourite. It just got too campy during that period.

raiders of the lost ark

just as good as it ever was IMHO. i've seen it at least 50 times but still close my eyes for the big "stuff coming out of the ark" scene.

indiana jones & the temple of doom

jones seems to be some sort of archaeological mercenary in this one. in the beginning he trades some emperor's ashes to a chinese gangster for a diamond. maybe he was going to trade the diamond for some other artifact? (maybe info on the cross of coronado?) also he acts more like humphry bogart playing indiana jones, what with calling willie "doll" & "sweetheart" and playing poker with the kid (short round) and WTF was the kid shoehorned into the story for? i guess people looked at it and said: "this story is too dark. i know what would lighten it up, a kid!"

my brother noticed a noir aspect to some scenes, which seems odd to me.

BTW according to imdb raiders was set in 1936, this one was set one year before (the sequel is a prequel) and the last crusade was in in 1938.

Red Riding Hood

It was better than I expected. I don't know why everyone is whining about it being like Twilight. There were a few lines/themes that were a bit Twilight-y, as well as the cinematography, but overall the story and characters were very different.

The mystery of the identity of the wolf was done pretty well because I didn't even suspect the person it ended up being.

Amanda Seyfried is an awesome actress, which made up for the mediochre acting of most of the rest of the cast.

Gary Oldman overacted on purpose, but it was entertaining rather than annoying.

Also, it was nice to see Michael Shanks (even if his character got killed off 10 minutes after he was introduced.)

The ending on the other hand was a bit of a letdown. It was weird and kind of unfinished. Like it was leaving space for a sequel, but since it did so crappily at the box office it unfortunately is unlikely to get one.

Temple Grandin: excellent insight into the mind of autism and the cattle industry.

Gulliver's Travels.

Reasonably entertaining if silly. But I will admit to having a soft spot for Jack Black.

As a fan of the novel the trailer alone had me weeping tears of blood

Watched it last night, was worth the time. Laughed pretty hard at all the Star Wars references.

Sucker Punch

It was... interesting.

I think I'd have to see it again to figure out the plot properly. It was weird and you have to think a lot to figure out what really happened. And there isn't a real answer.

But I enjoyed it. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was more to it than hot girls in skimpy outfits blowing things up as the trailers showed. (Though that was good too) :rachel:

The dialogue was pretty cheesy and...deliberate (as in it sounded like it was a script) but I think it was supposed to be like that for some artistic reason.

Most of the acting was good and I really liked the music.

The ending (if it was real) was damn depressing and made me cry, even though I saw it coming.

TOS Girl: All the Way!

Loved the King's Speech.... soooooo good. Cried lots. Firth's ability to show aching vulnerability is unsurpassed. Also saw Tron: Legacy... not bad but not great. At least imo :)

indiana jones & the last crusade;

still a fun movie IMHO. still love the indiana jones theme (i told my brother that john williams deserves all of his oscars) julian glover is good as the bad guy. he was the villain in for your eyes only (when i told my brother that he said: i thought he seemed like a bond villain)
had some problems with the characters of marcus & sullah. marcus was a bumbling idiot (or as my brother said: a drooling moron) true, he's an academic of some sort that runs a museum but that doesn't mean he's a buffoon. sullah, who was a strong, competent character in raiders comes across as more subservient in this one.

That was still a great lead-in tho....
"The hell you will. He's got a two day head start on you, which is more than he needs. Brody's got friends in every town and village from here to the Sudan, he speaks a dozen languages, knows every local custom, he'll blend in, disappear, you'll never see him again. With any luck, he's got the grail already....."

then cut to Marcus Brody wearing bright suit and white hat, sticking out like sore thumb:
"I say, does anyone here speak English? Or maybe even ancient Greek? "

and there's this later;

Indiana: Come on, dad. Help me get us out of here. We have to get to Marcus before the Nazis do.
Henry: But you said he had a two day head start. That he would blend in, disappear.
Jones: Are you kidding? I made all that up. You know Marcus. He once got lost in his own museum.
