Diary of a wimpy kid 2: Rodrick rules

as good as the first one. Far more intellingent and with more heart than the average tween oriented movie.

Rango:

Absolutely, without doubt, the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life.

I have enjoyed movies I've had to watch for school more than thais.

There was one single funny moment in the whole film, and it was in the trailer. :wissa:

It also had a lot of creepy/grotesque imagery that seemed designed to give little kids nightmares. There were children crying throughout it and I saw a couple of people take their kids out within the first 20 minutes.

I have no words to express how much I hated it.

Certified Copy with Juliet Binoche.

A good film, if you can accept the slightly confusing premise of a pair of strangers who meet, then pretend to be a married couple, then seem to know far too much about each other and their past (are they actually married?). It's just the two leads walking through a gorgeous Tuscan village and talking about their (probably imaginary) relationship. Very like a play, which is something I quite like. And it made me want to go back to Italy.

Australia with Nicole Kidman and that guy who played Wolverine. Who ever thought a movie about cattle could be interesting.

Disney's 50th animated movie starring Mandy Moore. It was actually a really cute movie, and I'd say one of their better efforts in recent years.

Fair Game

Based on the true story of ex CIA agent Valerie Plame whose identity was exposed by the Bush administration. Very good movie with nice performances from Naomi Watts and Sean Penn.

live and let die.

moore's first outing as bond. it's still the suave, debonair bond & not the slightly goofy, nudge-nudge, wink-wink, we-are-doing-a-'70s-spy-movie bond.
notable for being jane seymour's first movie.

the man with the golden gun.

christopher lee is menacing as scaramanga, britt ekland (former wife of peter sellers) is another dim-bulb bond girl, maud adams makes her first appearance as a bond girl (later she has the title role in octopussy) & hervé villechaize (later to be known as tattoo on fantasy island) is a bit creepy as nick nack, scaramanga's cook & butler.

the spy who loved me

while taking the title for one of the fleming novels, it as nothing in common with that story. that story is told from the POV of a woman (random fact: she's canadian) who's about to be killed by a couple of thugs at a closed motel when bond shows up. it's basically how she ended up there (life choices & all)
the movie is about some missing british and russian submarines carrying nuclear warheads, the missing plans for a system that can track subs under water, an eccentric billionaire & the russian agent (barbara bach, current wife of ringo starr) who reluctantly reams up with bond. i like that they had woman agent be bond's equal from russia, a bit of equality creeping in to the bond franchise.

TOS Girl: All the Way!

Sue and I have been going through the Bonds again too! All chronological... Just wrapped up "Licence to Kill" the 2nd and final Timothy Dalton appearance as 007. The Bond series is soooo good. Every couple of years they are worth watching from start to finish. Next up is Goldeneye!

for your eyes only

a mix of ideas and characters from various bond stories; the title is from on collection (and one of the stories within) the idea of a woman avenging her parents murder is from that story, as is their name (the havelocks) but the daughter in the story was judy, not melina. the name of their killer is also the same. the colombo vs. kristatos thing is from a story called risco. bond & melina being pulled behind the motor boat over the coral for the sharks to get them is from the novel live & let die.
an unnecessary edition of the teen girl figure skater & her coach IMHO.
my brother pointed out that this isn't like a typical bond story; the bad guy isn't out for money or power, just to deliver the decoder (or whatever) to the soviets. bond doesn't even kill the bad guy.
M was not in this one as the actor (bernard lee) died just before production. out of respect for him the producers left M out of the movie. his lines were given to minister of defense.
it is the first (& i think only) time you seinger the singer of the theme. "prince charles" was susposed to call bond to cngradulte bond at the end, put the impersonator they got was arrested just before production began.

interesting casting notes; julian glover (donovan in indiana jones & the last crusade) topol (fiddler on the roof) cassandra harris (the late wife of perce brosnan) in a small role

Conan the Barbarian.

It's actually a really good film and i'll fight anyone who says otherwise. It's head and shoulders above the imitators that sprang up in the 80s. Fantastic soundtrack, brilliant landscapes, some astonishing pre-CGI effects work. And James Earl Jones is excellent despite not being able to make much use of his most bankable asset, his voice.

Arnie is ok. He looks the part at least.

The King's Speech

Excellent movie. Colin Firth more than earned his Best Actor Oscar. The many scenes where he struggles to speak are almost painful to watch; I don't know how he did it. Geoffrey Rush was also very good and provided some nice humor here and there.

I was also surprised to see that the movie was a mini Harry Potter convention. Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix), Michael Gambon (Dumbledore), and Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew) all make appearances. It was funny to see Spall playing Winston Churchill
