Oh yeah, go rent "Reign Over Me" with Adam Sandler, & Don Cheadle, if you haven't seen it. Really. It is exceptionally moving, & well acted. I was surprised

My review from IMDB.com

There is never any shortage of comedy actors who long to make the transfer into drama, & Adam Sandler can, with complete assurance, now count himself among the very few who can do it with excellence.

Reign Over Me is a story about two men whose lives diverged into two diametrically opposed states of anguish, since they had been college roommates, many years earlier.

Comedians like Jim Carrey wish they had the innate ability, that Sandler expresses, seemingly with ease, in carrying across a character that is meant to be genuinely funny enough to bring the audience to laughter, & yet dramatically heartfelt enough to be able put a lump in their throats, moments later. I believe it to be his finest performance to date, & hope to see more of this kind of talent, in future work from him.

Cheadle, as always, is in top form, & shows again that of all his finer talents, the one that is likely most valued by his peers, is his ability to intelligently pin point where his performance needs to be, in order to heighten the qualities of those around him. He and Sandler have a chemistry that I would have previously thought unlikely, in large part due to his approach.

The story, though simple, is scripted marvelously, & writer/actor/director Mike Binder proves himself a gifted craftsman in the art of cinema. The only noticeable flaw worth mentioning, is that the well played performances, from both Liv Tyler, as the therapist, & Jada Pinkett Smith, as Cheadle's wife, seemed somewhat truncated, possibly due to time constraints, but still manage to convey two exceptionally thoughtful women.

There is not one point in this film where you lose the earnestness from any character, including Donald Sutherland, as the judge & Robert Kline, & Melinda Dillon, as Sandler's in-laws. You truly find yourself able to identify, & even empathize with each character's perspective, & that is a rare quality in a film. As long a Binder can bring that to his work, I'll be willing to watch any movie he makes

no surprise to me when comedians are able to switch to drama like that. All comedy is born from pain.

But sometimes, they are a disingenuous. I feel that way about Jim Carrey sometimes. His acting often comes off staged, like a comedy act, & it's even worse, when he tries to work in some of his personal comedic style into his drama, because his comedic style is fairly surreal

well being a great comedian doesn't mean you are a great actor. You require both skills I think.

True, & I hadn't really thought of Adam Sandler as a talented actor, but this film will convince you

watched die hard last night

did anyone mention Tuvok was in it?

And the irony of the apple guy being a computer hacker? The only think I could think watching the movie was "girls like guys with skills. Bow hunting skills, num-chuck skills, computer hacking skills."

as my husband pointed out. To be an effective bad guy these days you really need computer hacking skills. Gone are the days when it was enough to just not be able to shoot well.

oh and things blew up well. I especially liked the part where he got the car airborne and hit the helocopter.

He jumps out of a destroyed semi-tractor trailer, onto a collapsing bridge, & slides onto a jet  :panic:

I got a broken clavicle, & a month or so of road rash, falling of a motorcycle, rounding a gravelly corner at 25 mph :wissa:

Watching Lives of Others right now. It is very difficult to watch a subtitled movie while on the boards. I think it is a spy movie behind the Iron Curtain.

Just finished a movie called "Casshern" It's a Japanese sci-fi flick about a futuristic war, with the creation of a superhuman race

It was very good. The story was a bit simple, & not much development, but it more than makes up for that with breathtakingly unique imagery like the picture posted here

Anybody who likes good sci-fi would enjoy this film, as long as they don't mind some subtitles
