I saw the piece. And I've assumed that humans had been scavaging things off it and discarding stuff. Didn't catch the part about the infection.

The DaVinci Code.

Have probably already reviewed this excellent movie, but it's always worth another look, if only to see lovely Audrey Tautou. Ok, it's a bit contrived, she being the 'Holy Grail' and all, but as it's taken from the novel (which presumably says the same thing), we can forgive that. Should have won some awards imho. *****

The Perfect Storm.

Clooney and co battling the elements, rather than hours of boring tit-for-tat dialogue. Diane Lane and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio play the love interests, in this excellent true story, where the grandeur and power of the ocean steals every scene. Poignant. *****

It's Christmas!

Watched Angels and Demon, and Night at the Museum:Battle of the Smithsonian on DVDs. I thought Angels and Demons were interesting and Tom hanks was gooood! Night at the Museum with Ben Stiller had a lot of talking than the first Night at the Museum movie, so it was okay.

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs Cute movie. Great themes as well. Just not enough kids movies about how much their dads love them

The Hangover Great movie. Well paced. Very funny. And I like the way it all tied up in the end.

The Peacemaker.

Probably already reviewed this, George Clooney and Nicole Kidman trying to stop a nuclear attack on the USA. Fast paced, and with plenty of action sequences, this superior thriller concentrates on the story and building the tension, rather than developing the obvious chemistry between the two leads. Excellent. *****

Funny People
Complete roller coaster on where the movie was going. Had much more of the Punch drunk Love feel than most Sandler movies, but it was about comedians, so they were still brought out some laughs. Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen were both great. downside of this movie is the most constant theme involved some variation of a cock joke - r rating is well earned.

My Life in Ruins
Sequel to My Big Fat Greek wedding inthe sense that both were Greek movies. Funny little romantic comedy with great visuals.

BTW, Hangover announced a sequel.

Sherlock Holmes
Thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Very big on deductive reasoning, acting was good, time period setting was nice. Sherlock had one part where he would analyze his fighting moves before doing it. While it was a nice touch, they were good about not over playing it during the movie. Only problem might be because I missed a scene, but Sherlock's end analysis seemed to use an event that he was absent from.

The Shawshank Redemption.

Brilliant dramatisation of Stephen King's novel about prison life, with Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne the innocent banker wrongly imprisoned, Morgan Freeman as Ellis "Red" Reddington the con Dufresne befriends (and who provides the voice-over), Clancy Brown as the sadistic Head Guard Hadley, and Bob Gunton as the corrupt Warden Norton. William Sadler also appears as one of the cons. Played with integrity, this movie provides a moving and poignant glimpse of life behind bars. Excellent !! *****

I wondered about that one. It was one of my most favorite books to read as a kid.

There can be only one

The Hangover

I was a little disappointed with this - bachelor party with 4 of the most dysfunctional friends I ever saw, and having it in Vegas with the whole movie being about them trying to figure out what the hell happened after not being able to remember any of it with employing a rainman recreation and not even one strip club scene.

Inglorious Basterds

Typical Tarantino film, so it was pretty likable in that fashion with respect to his usual film elements and execution, but far too much foreign language and subtitling for my taste.

Julie & Julia

Foodie film and for someone missing the hell out of not having the Food Network anymore, this was a great poignant way at getting a fix - actually has me considering after all these years of actually getting Julia Child's famous book. Not to mention that last night I made the food shown in the bruschetta scene, and we wish we had just more of that and forget the sausage....we literally were ooohing, oooing and aahhing over that dish eating it as they were on screen.
The unambiguous and defined essence of a truest friend, is a single soul, shared in two bodies. A person who completes you so, that it pains you when they hurt, and sustains you when they are with you, no matter how far.

It was good. Aside from food falling out of the sky, not that close to the book - that whole problem with having to give it a reason.

G Force
Another kid movie that wasn't too bad. Once they figured out how to make guinea pigs talk, they found that they were great spies. Mix that with some transformers and FBI agents chasing you, and you have the movie.

Starship Troopers 3.

Jolene (T'Pol) Blalock and Casper van Dien fighting bugs and saving earth. When I saw the first movie in the franchise, I wasn't sure at first what to make of it; was it serious, or supposed to be funny ?? Now I know better, and watch these movies for fun. There is very much an anti-war message there, which I like, though why everyone speaks in American accents is beyond me !! :p ****

Trailer Park Boys 2: Countdown to Liquor Day.

As usual I got plenty of good laughs out of their antics and it is certainly worth a watch. The only problem I had was that the last 1/3 of the movie just kinda went beyond sane and just went down hill from there.

Not that that's a bad thing, it just went down hill with the insanity of some of what went on. It was all still funny and I was laughing almost constantly, but it just felt like it went just a tad beyond what TPB's was all about.

Well it was based on a true story.... many aspects in the movie and story line were of course over exaggerated for entertainment purposes.

Last I heard, one of the women from the real ship was in some legal troubles for fishing in Canadian waters.

*Checks*

Yup, she was found guilty.

Witchcraft.

Starring the lovely Linda Blair (exorcist), I expected this to be a great scary movie. Well, so much for that hope !! No idea how it ends, I bugged out halfway through, but what I saw didn't bode well. Now, correct me if am wrong, but there are certain 'rules' of scary movies, specifically that there should be something scary happen at certain points, to hold the viewer's attention to the end. Sadly, this was more boring than thrilling, which is why I bugged out halfway through. A total waste of her talent, and I dunno why she ever agreed to it. *

Pirates of the Caribbean; At Worlds End.

The third of the trilogy, and have to say probably the best one. So much is happening, you can't afford to nod off part way through, and the bizarre wedding ceremony near the end proves my point, it was nice to see Legolas Bloom get Twice Knightly to some kind of 'altar' at last. A great movie, that didn't entirely depend upon Johnny Depp to make it work as the other two did imho. If you haven't seen it, tell the doctors to release you from cryo-sleep for a couple of hours and watch it, you won't be disappointed. *****
