Star Trek (2009)

Yes, I saw it at the theater when it opened. And I bought it in Blu-Ray. And I watched it twice today on DirecTV in 1080p. I loved it each time and it will always be one of my all-time favorite movies.

Dd you find R2D2? :p

Live long and prosper.....!!

Dukes of Hazzard.

I used to love this prog when it was on tv, it was both anarchic and funny, so the movie had a lot to live up to. Fortunately, it did, though the Dodge Charger car, "General Lee", stole the show as usual. A good cast, very funny script, and one I'll watch again. Recommended. ****

Precious

Very somber. It really pulls on those proverbial cardiac muscles. Whoa!! Makes you really want to cry. I found it very similar to The Color Purple but this one is much more emotionally tugging. :crying:

I've read excerpts from the Novel PUSH and I had to put it down. Not because it was bad, the novel is pretty good but the content, strikes a blow and hit me in a spot. It's one of those be grateful because there are other situations that are a google(10x100) amount of times worse.

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard

It had a ton of famous actors in it (including Charles Napier who was in episodes of TOS and DS9) and it's a laugh a minute. It's raunchy with a ton of foul language in it, and I was in tears laughing.

watched die hard last night.
i didn't know or had forgotten,
that it was based on a novel.
so i looked it up on amazon.
it was originally titled something's got to give.
and while the plot is more or less the same,
there are differences. like the main character's
name & the fact that he's older and going in
to rescue his grown daughter and her 2 kids.

District 9

great sci fi. And an interesting way of telling the story. Most of the film is in the form of a documentary. Brings up some interesting ideas about why an alien might land on our planet and how we would respond.

One thing that bothered me though is there is no backstory about the arrival of the aliens. Works fine in the begining but notso much in the end.

The Corpse Bride.

Director Tim Burton's stop-motion animation, an interesting concept and a good cast, however I wasn't overly enamoured by it or found it particularly funny, and gave up about halfway through. A missed opportunity, I thought. **

There can be only one

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Gratuitous Megan Fox shots - dont know what else there was going on there.

District 9.
I really liked it. The mech at the end gave some nice gratuitous scifi tech. Having the mix with the Nigerian refugees was a nice touch. In the deleted scenes, they have a little more on the alien reproduction and how the humans "essentially proved that the ship was the aliens" because the ones they took up there couldn't make it work.

Land of the Lost.
Over the top, but it worked with the movie. Story wasn't sensible, and I never laughed out loud (possibly because I was in a crowd that wasn't watching)

 did you see my review on the last page?

I have a quibble with the ending though. If they had enough fuel to go "home" why did they hover over Joberg for 4 months till they came and cut a hole in the ship? why were they there in such bad shape in the first place? How did the hole they cut in the side affect space travel? :mojo:

I loved the way the dweeby guy became heroic. I'm hoping they make a sequel when they come back to rescue the other refugees and transform the geeky guy.

We were talking about it at work today. Only one other girl had seen it and she played games on her phone through the whole movie. :pfft: women.

Your review reminded me to write one.

The Joberg choice was a great location for first contact. I thought they said that the "upper" class that actually could fly the ship had probably caught an infection and died leaving the rest of the aliens locked out. Don't know why the one was suddenly able to learn it - maybe he'd been studying as he was trying to gather parts for the last 20 years. Did you catch when the piece fell off of the mothership?

Public Enemies
Acting was great. Story was good. A little too much hollywood license with things like Dillinger walking around the police station with no one noticing when they were looking for him.
