Space chimps

ok, obviously I wasn't expecting much from this one but it wasn't bad at all. Nice little plot. Lots of grownup humour in it. My kids were howling more than at any other movie in recent memory. Lots of little trek references. In fact the whole plot is kinda an ad for the prime directive.

and they have a chimp directive

Taken

Entertaining enough in a one super good guy can go into a room full of bad guys who all have guns and can kill them all without getting a scratch.

Plot is the Liam Neeson character was some sort of government operative. We never really learn what kind. He has been absent from his daughter's life for most of it till he retires when she turns 17 so he can spend some time with her. Much to the chagrin of her mother and uber rich step father. She is kidnapped by in europe and now he is the only way she can be found.

Tropic Thunder.

haha. Adult comedy but not overly sexual. The movie itself used over the top comedy, but they pulled off a somewhat believeable storyline okay. They carried the method actor part out to the end.

Foolproof.
Little heist movie which was pretty good. A group of friends plans heists as a hobby and then a real thief decides to make them to a job. They don't want to until one became enticed by the money, I thought they overplayed their hand to get out of it, but the bad guy got what was coming to him in the end.

This movie came out right before Stargate: Atlantis and had an early appearance by David Hewlett (Rodney McKay).

Angels & Demons

I normally don't like movies that deal with religion, but this one was just incredible. It makes me want to go re-watch The Da Vinci Code. :D

There's a lot of action and suspense, and as far as I can tell (I just started the book today), fairly true to the story.

All the churches are real. The legend about the Illuminati is real. And antimatter is produced by the LHC. Just not in those amounts.

Prince Caspian:

Good addition to the series. I need to reread the books, but I thought the movie was well done. The battles weren't quite as epic as LOTR, but they showed that they learned a thing or two since then. Battles weren't as graphic, just well done.

Frost/Nixon

I really enjoyed this movie. It was extremely well done, and I think it should have won Best Picture instead of Slumdog Millionaire. Frank Langella was fantastic as Nixon.

On a side note, Frank Langella made a couple appearances in DS9 at the end of Season 1 and beginning of Season 2 as Bajoran Minister Jaro.

Terminator-Salvation

The fastest 2 hours and 10 minutes that you'll spend in a theater.
Action Packed with lots of nods to the prior movies. I liked it, but not as much as I did Star Trek.

Up

One of the things I always love about Pixar, is they can take any unusual premise and make it work, take Cars for instance.

I really didn't have much idea as to what Up would be about except a mans house leaves a large city with an rather large amount of balloons attached, and an unsuspecting Wilderness Boy shaking like a leaf on his front porch as he takes flight. So I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie, and the very moving sweetness of it's content.

Great family film.

Equilibrium

Very different Christian Bale Movie. My son recorded it and we watched it last night. It was OK, but nothing that I would go nuts over.

Really a cute movie. Held everyone's interest. Though that farm girl was one of the most disturbing characters I recall seeing in a long time

Fanboys:

I figured this was a good movie for a running talling of jokes as plenty of Trek references were included, so here is just a little stream of thought while I watched.

Real argument quickly gets derailed into SW incest. Trekkies look sane.

Guy is message boarding and can't even notice a girl flashing him.

A phaser gun was put in the comic book display case but only to flush out Trekkies. Odd because I thought the Ferengi symbol was on the dude's van. R2 is on the top of the van which looked pretty funny.

They detoured to Riverside, Iowa because it is the home of James Kirk's original future birthplace. I looked it up and there really is a monument there, but it is of a ship look alike rather than a Kirk bust. Anyway, epic battle of Warsies and Trekkies begins ending with a well placed Kahhhhhn. Oops, I meant Trekkers - Trekkies is apparently offensive to costumed Trek fans.

Peeing on a electric fence, great way to make swords into light sabers.

Hyperspeed right through the Air Force sign leaving a Use the Force sign with a silhoute of Vader in the hole using brakelights for his eyes. Cute.

HAHA Shatner is the scruffy nerf herder helping target Lucas :liz:

Seth Rogen tattoos with a little singing about the Vader. so many little cameos throughout that just made me laugh.

Warsies name their right hand Leia ROFL. :liz:

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Quite enjoyed it. The effects are amazing. Wish for the life of me I could remember anything from these books

Valkyre: Kinda long but a decent movie. And I find it kinda ruins the movie when you know what is going to happen and it isn't good. Don't know if it's the smartest thing in the world to send the guy with only 2 fingers in to assemble the bomb  but I guess you can't help the plot holes of history.

He's just not that into you

I saw so much of myself in this movie it was unreal.

it follows 5 women, 3 men interconnecting plots but it had a sappy it worked out for everyone at the end type endings.

I kind of want to read the book now.

Public Enemy

Johnny Depp

Christian Bale

As much as I'm not used to seeing violence in film anymore [most of what I get to see is kiddie fair] I must say this film really held everyone in my parties attention. Depp is awesome, as is Bale. It's a bit long, but it was gripping.

Drag Me to Hell

Crappiest summer movie ever. Sixth graders with a Super 8 can make a better horror film than this.
