Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

OMG!!!! what an amazing movie! charlie and the chocolat factory meets mary poppins. It's about trusting yourself, fullfilling your destiny, magic toy stores, King Lear, magic blocks of wood, and how to make friends.

grab every child you know and watch this movie. :cheer:

I just saw August Rush for the first time tonight. It was a pretty good movie. It never ceases to amaze me how talented some kids can be at such a young age. That young girl in the church choir had a phenomenal voice. And of course Robin Williams was as crazy as ever. Just a little strange seeing him as a creepy "bad guy"

Directed by .... Ben Affleck :o  Really It is stunningly good :)

I watched it just because you recommended it.

Holy crap what a good movie. Cant' remember the last time I saw a movie this good that raised so many questions that can't be answered. Ben Afflick should never act again. Seriously. He must spend all his time writing and directing.

As an actor I usually hate him, but as a writer (Co-writer actually) this is his second awesome movie, & his first as a director. I guess if being a cheesy actor in crap movies like Paycheck gets you the money to make a film like this one, then I suppose that might be the only reason that could justify it

He ought to try to write/direct something with himself in it. It would probably be the best movie he's ever acted in :o

Agreed on all counts. I just watched it last night and couldn't wait until I got to review it here. Didn't realize Mojo put his stamp on it a month ago.

What do you think you would have done? Surely a great example of two wrongs not making a right, but would you want to be the one to make the "right" call at the end of the day? I know I was ready to call DHS early on in the movie.

What is it with Bostonian movies and language? Or is it just Ben Affleck movies?

Good Will Hunting? Or did they have someone else direct it?

it wasn't directed by them

and I have to say I agreed with the what the character did.
morgan freeman stole her and stole her heritage away from her. Money doesn't make that right. Though in this case it was really two bad choices
I just watched Arthur starring Dudley Moore. It's an older movie now but it's one of the funniest I've ever seen. If you haven't watched it yet, I definitely recommend it.

I was definitely pissed at the girlfriends hard line stance. But still, craptastic parents suck.

Some of the deleted scenes were worth a view. I should turn on the commentary some time to figure out why they cut some good scenes.

Also saw 30 Days of Night. Not a complete waste of time just because I was doing a bunch of other stuff. The idea that it was that dark the whole time and then it suddenly ended was a distracting inaccuracy.

Affleck was raised in Cambridge, MA. The Writer, who also wrote Mystic River, Dennis Lehane is from Dorchester, MA. Matt Damon is from Boston, which is another reason he was a good fit for "The Departed", which also had Mark Wahlberg, who is from Dorchester, MA, as well

I watched Elizabeth the Golden Age last night. It was really good. Just as good as the first. With the added bonus of Clive Owen.

Cate Blanchette was beautiful as always and the imagery was stunning.

I thought it fit. And it was based on a true story so their hands were tied.

the guy at the video store totally misled me though (on purpose I'm sure, we chat every saturday about my movie choices) so the end was so not what I was expecting.

Well their hands were tied with respect to the fact that Frank Lucas gets caught, & turns states evidence in order to bust a bunch of bad cops, like Josh Brolin's character

That part fit well enough, especially seeing as it was true

I just mean the whole ending, with the "Times they are a changin" bit, where now the cop & the murderous ex-con are like buddies or something, chumming it up on their old turf or whatever

They could have just as easily cut short that part & left it as him getting even with the cops who screwed with him

It's not as though the movie would've come up short on run time with a bit more editing

The performances were good though :eating:
