watched self/less on the weekend with Ryan Renolds and Ben Kingsley. I'd never heard of it so it must have bombed in the theatres but I really enjoyed it. |

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale Set in Finland. Dark/noir with the humor element not becoming fully evident until the backend of the movie. It was recommended to me. Kept watching somewhat bewildered about why my friend saw humor in this until the backend of the movie began, then found it confusingly funny in its noir-ness. LOLOLOL And now it's sort of stuck in my mind as twistedly funny so weirdly will watch it again next Season as one of my must watch Christmas shows. |

"Interstellar" (for the fifth or sixth time). This movie fascinates me from its very accurate depiction of our Dust Bowl farms w their hopelessness (some of the footage in the interviews on those screens 'were' actually people who lived it. I recognized those interviews from the excruciating/brutal documentary brilliantly laying that terrible time bare).... to its unfathomable fictional future where history is being rewritten .. and believed... to support the need of this new caretaker planet that has a pathogenic organism blight that is destroying crop foods and consuming the planet's oxygen. The survival space craft needing to be built in secret as they secretly work out the science of getting it in space and build more of them before time runs out. Then the stark white gray look of space as they race against time. And the wormhole. I just can 'not' wrap my mind around, well any worm hole, but specifically this splended spherical wormhole. And don't EVen get me started on the trance I go into looking at that cg black hole visualization as seen from the out side as I try to comprehend IT. The writing, especially the editing of it, the acting of the writing. This movie endlessly fascinates me. And over and above it all is that soundtrack that is mostly so subtle I'm not recognizing how it's driving my interest, then tension, then making me feeeelllll the crisis. I have the movie, I have the soundtrack, I have the book The Science Of 'Interstellar' by K. Thorne. I keep borrowing out a couple more mainly picture books from the library on the making of it. Gorgeous stuff. I've listened to as much as I could get hold of to listen to Jonathan and Christopher Nolan talk about what they were going for, what it took to get it to the finished product. The same with Hans Zimmer talking about how he arrived at his soundtrack. |

the barkley marathons a documentary about a crazy race in the rugged mountains of tennessee which was inspired by james earl ray's short-distance prison break in the late 1970s. many enter, few finish. as the tag line says: it's the race that eats it's young. |

Alien: Covenant Just as a warning, there are some major spoilers in here so proceed with caution. ![]() This was the Alien film we were waiting for. I can say with great ease that this is the best film the franchise has seen since 1986's Aliens. The acting was excellent, most notably from Katherine Waterston who plays the protagonist, Daniels. It had action, it had heart, and you even came to like the characters before they are, in the tradition of every Alien film, systematically killed off in new gory ways. However the true antagonist of the films isn't the Alien, but rather a familiar face from the previous film. If you were a fan of Prometheus you may be disappointed and probably will feel a bit cheated about how that story concludes. And just a forewarning, this is a pretty major spoiler so you if haven't seen the film turn away right now. Elizabeth Shaw is dead. During the 10 years which passed between the events of Prometheus and Covenant, she put David back together and fixed him up only for him to murder her off screen. The only times you see her in the actual movie are in a grainy hologram on the engineers ship, several photos and her corpse which has been mutilated and preserved by David making it almost beyond recognition. In essence David is now your bad guy. Remember, always be nice to your synthetic or as Bishop preferred "artificial person." I will say this, his motives in Prometheus become far clearer and make much more sense than they did initially, now that I've seen this sequel. His story really is becoming the central arc of the prequel series. And other than a rather frustrating ending, I really enjoyed the film. And Daniels is definitely a strong protagonist, who I'm rooting to survive to the next Alien. |

Far longer than anyone will want. Frankly, I'm already sick of it all. Sadly, it's not going anywhere for the foreseeable future. I imagine 20 years from now, people will vomit at the thought of superhero movies, but even that may be a generous estimate |

Days of Future Past Yet another Wolverine movie this time his mind is sent back to 1977 to prevent a future attack by all-conquering giant robots. Now ok I like Hugh Jackman he's a good actor, but really how many more far-fetched ideas can Marvel come up with before people say "enough" ?! |
| R.I.P. Gummy, we'll miss you bro | |
