Ziggy Says you got to work the shaft..work the shaft!

Full on geek mode right now. Someone got a hold of junk Graflex's part and is selling them off on e-bay dirt cheap. My new holy online grail:

No why is this such a big deal? Junk graflexs were used in the Luke and Vader sabers in the original SW movies. Finding them mint, no reproductions, set you back several hundred/grand- if you can get someone to sell them to you, most of what is sold as saber kibble are repros made out of cheap metal; Graflex, hardcore ones, collectors and dealers refuse to sell the flash to people wanting to make them into saber.

Hopefully the condition will keep the bidding low on this.

:P Heathen. Bow to the might of the Graflex!

What is more geeky is that I know exactly what is need to restore the handle and modify in less than a couple of days- three if I steal some hasbro electronics and kibble it out with SFX and lights.

What pissed me off is about 12 years back I had a shot to line up about a dozen graflex handles and camera assemblies for little of nothing, pure junk. But at the time you couldn't throw a rock without hitting a mint Graflex for $20 or so, so I didn't think anything of it. Now I kick myself for not buying them up, restore a few of the camera and parting out the rest for saber-hilts.

Machined aluminium mostly; save for the background sabers on extras, those are just hardware sabers for the most part (ie made up of this and that or cheap repros cast in plastic)

The battle for Graflex parts is ongoing between camera collectors and SW collectors. If you can hit on a stockpile of mint ones, you've got a small gold mine. The one I'm looking at most collectors on either aisle would take a second look at; I, however, am not above a little work cleaning it up.

Nah, just a amature study in old school prop making, especially Star Wars. In the early days Lucasfilm had nothing for a prop budget outside the costumes. So they did a lot of "hardware" props. Plumping supplies, disabled guns, junk they got from the studio to basically clean out the storage buildings, etc. And since I love photography, I start hunting down the history of the old Graflex systems before I even knew that they were actually used in the saber hilt.

The bidding up to $20 now, which makes it just at the edge of what I would have paid; I"m hedging on it being a $200 sell.

HEre's a near mint one and it's gong for $73 right now. There's an already converted one going for $150 buy it now. About a month ago I saw a mint complete graflex flash handle go for around $700/$800

If you look at the actual prop, it's only about three of four modifications to make a graflex into a saber.
