Just slightly different. I have many Canadian deaf friends from Toronto, Ontario, Montreal, very few from BC or Vancouver.... Many went to my college, Gallaudet University in Washington DC, which is the only college in the world for the deaf. They(Canadians) do the ABC same way but some signs are different. Here in America, some states sign a little differently but the manuel alphabet is the same, just the signing are different. I wish I could show you but too bad I am stuck here in the eastern area and you in the western area, oh well.

I know I'm going to hate myself for asking this one but... Are the Canadians easy to understand? :nailbite:

I understand them well.....Sometimes there was a sign I did not understand I had to ask what that person meant then that person will explain. Same thing for the deaf Canadian person too ask me what my sign language meant from America. I used to date a Canadian deaf man last fall, we are not together now, just friends. Some deaf Canadian can talk, some not good in talking. Myself can speak and understand a bit if I read lips.

Rachel :rachel:

Good question? I have not seen my friends write that way. They don't spell it out they just sign, there is a sign for "color", don't have to spell it out with fingerspell, just sign it.

I think it is more like the difference between Spanish and Italian. Different languages but with many similarities.

We all should do USA signing.... our deaf folks would be fluent in the same language the world over... being way ahead of us full auditory types.

Lus, they use one hand fingerspelling in Canada. It is the same as we do in America but their signing is a little different, that is all. I understand them fine. Most of them write English, some can speak English. I have not ever recall any of the deaf to do French. So I have no idea about French ones. Most of my Canadian deaf friends do English.
