I thought I'd make a World Cup thread for me and Sheppy, MIM and anyone else interested to post their World Cup thoughts.

So....game 1 for Blighty:

ENGLAND 1 PARAGUAY 0

England made me nervous but managed a win against a fairly good defensive effort by Paraguay. Sadly, England needs to find a way to score more points of Sheppy's Brazilians are going to win this darn thing again :bigcry:

Germany won quite nicely wouldn't you say?

And I was surprised by the outcome of the Poland match, to say the least.

Morgan, England needs to play tighter. They weren't very inspired today, though I did think the ref's calls were one sided.

I mean, what was that at the end of the game?! Paraguay dude jumps on England, ball is handled :o and there is no CALL!!

The ref was pro Paraguay and it still didn't help them. GO ENGLAND!!

I watched little bit's of it but I've been in & out most of the day. But what I saw England didn't do too badly.

I just felt sorry for them, it's really hot in Germany at the moment and those poor guys are having to run around playing football. Not good! :(

You know, Sean said the same thing to me last night and I thought that he was such a woos in the heat [he melts at 69 degrees], that how hot was it in Germany.

The temp during the game yesterday was just that, 69.

Do you happen to know how hot it was Shep? And are German summers humid like England summers are?

It's the same as is it here around 30 degrees C.

The BBC commentators where saying they were really hot in the commentator box!

Woah, I think that's more like 80 degrees for us, which is hot.

That's when Sean feels like a slug!! And he'll totally agree with me on that.

USA plays their first game Tuesday is it?

That's one great post MD!

Yes, I thought the ref seemed to be making a lot of calls in Paraguay's favor and poor Crouch just couldn't get a break. Almost like the ref took a personal disliking to him :(

As to Germany, having 2 scored against them is worring. Their offense is obviously top notch but I suspect against a stronger team, they may prove vulnerable in the backfield.

As to the good ol' USA. Watch out! The US has been coming on ever since LA hosted the Summer Olympics back in 1984. (Yikes!! Has it been that long?? :wheelchair:)

Anyways, *cough*America's 294 million population makes for a fertile field from which to draw talent from. I think they may surprise more than a few people this World Cup.

Gotta log here to watch USA vs. Czech Republic!.

Good luck to our friends south of the border. You've got a good squad and the game should be a good one.

I turned it off.

I got so disgusted with their play.

They were so relaxed they were lack luster. The commentor on ESPN was pissing me off early on so I had no volume going either. :P

And when I began watching the second half, no one was trying to take shots on goal, what the frick was that.

They deserved to lose. They sucked today.

Yes, the pundits on Canada's version of ESPN (TSN) were saying how out of sync the US team played. They had a couple of good opportunities but for the mostpart seemed to come out flat, and the quick Czech goal didn't help matters.

Anyways, it IS disappointing as the US were expected to play well, if not outright win their section. Hopefully, the team can regroup and play more inspired in their remaining games. :fingerscrossed:

BTW, that early tackle on Donovan that generated a yellow card should have been red IMO.

ENGLAND WON!

Hmm... Lessee If by using Sheppy's quote and making a few important changes my thoughts about England's last game can be made clear!

Ok, so England did win BUT.... Beckham's free kicks were for the mostpart sadly lacking. Lampard couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Passing for everyone was generally atrocious.

On the plus side:

England is through to the next round
Rooney got to play and looked good.
Gerard's goal was absolutely brilliant!

At any rate, they need to be much better still if they hope to avoid an early departure from the World Cup.
