"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." - Nikola Tesla

![]() [As a point of reference, this is where you are starting. =] ] The light from the moon was more than enough illumination in the area. Large, expansive clearings in the seemeingly unending woods around the base of Mt. Arath allowed for excellent meeting spots and places in which weary travelers could rest for the night. A fine mist was spreading from the torrents of water dropping from unimaginable heights not too far from where our story starts. In one such clearing, a young man stood tall and hopeful under the luminance of the full moon's light. A gentle breeze carrying an incredibly fine mist blew through the area, and this young man quickly straightened his hair and jacket, wanting to appear as professional as possible when the aide showed up. Jonathan was happy to have had such an avid reply to his bulletins that he had posted. It had only been 18 hours, but he already had three trainers that wanted to look for his Onix! The icing on the cake was that they'd be here any moment, and his excitement grew with every passing moment. Jonathan looked back towards the large mountain. Really, it was the only place a giant rock-snake could hide. ![]() [Jonathan] He set his sights again on the location that he anticipated the trainers to be coming from. Honestly, how much longer could they be taking? Onix had randomly disappaeared after the incident, and Jonathan wanted to bring him home. The only thing he could do, he supposed, was wait for the others to get here. |

[OOC Warning: Getting back into this after.... forever. Quality may not be guaranteed for now ._. ] The soft soil smothered the clapping of Alma's hooves as she trotted toward the rende-vouz spot. Selia could feel the horse's muscles flexing and releasing under her, as she rode with just a cloth to serve as 'saddle'. A real one was heavier, not to mention the pain of having to take it off and on every time she would need Alma's assistance in a fight. Wild Pokémon were not known for letting people graciously prepare for battle, even if Clip could serve as a distraction during the most sudden encounters. As if summoned, the Pidgeotto's cry echoed above her head. The bird was having a blast driving off all smaller competitors from the trees she classified as 'might provide food'. Selia just hoped she wasn't going to bother a Fearow or something similar, though Clip had proved to be smarter than that. If she wasn't so heavy she'd have carried her on her shoulder, but doing it for long periods of time made her poor muscles protest in pain, so there was no way she could set her mind at ease on the matter: Alma did not like to have the volatile perched on her rump, the hard claws were kinda painful, and their trainer suspected Clip liked to hold just a bit tighter than it was necessary just to piss Alma off. So there they were, the insufferable trio, readying for a mission that Selia hoped was as easy as it sounded: a missing Pokémon, the search to be done in company of the owner (which was always a bonus, a Pokémon would follow a random stranger saying he knows his trainer just as much as kid would with a guy telling he's a family friend; the 'don't talk with strangers' rule knew not the boundaries of species). The chance of a bit of income with not much danger involved had been too tempting to let it pass. Mount Arath was known to be full of chances for exploring expeditions, but not the kind of place where you had to wear a suit of armor and hope you didn't meet anything bigger than a Tauros to make it alive. "Even so, I wonder if there'll be a lot of climbing? If the ground is too steep mounting Alma could very well cost her a leg and my neck on top of it." The profile of the mountain hovered over them lazily, making her understand the feeling of a flea on Alma's rump. Clip's cry echoed again above her head, this time taking the distinctive tone of 'Alert, something ahead!'. They were close, Selia saw, and gripped the reins to make Alma slow down her pace. Clip descended on her extended arm, the sign that what she had seen was very close, and indeed her owner was soon able to make the silhouette of another human being ahead of her. She stopped Alma and dismounted (it wasn't polite to greet people from upside down) leading her with the reins for the last steps. Clip had taken off again for the time need to get off the Rapidash and perched on her again as soon as she was walking on solid ground. "Good morning, mister, are you the one from the lost Onyx flier?" He was taller than her, she noted, but it was an easy enough feat to accomplish. Kinda cute as well, with all the effort he was putting to hide his nervousness. Wonder how long his Pokémon had been missing? She knew she would be bouncing on the walls in the same situation, crazy with worry. Poor guy! "I'm Selia. I replied yesterday evening, sorry if it was at a late hour, but I arrived in town just recently. I hope to be of assistance." |

It was a cold night, but that may simply have been the chill of the waters spilling from Mount Arath. Even from a slight distance, they proved quite the spectacle, winding in interlaced paths from the verdant peaks, tumbling down the occasional break in terrain, until finally plummeting off the side in a grandiose cascade of silvery white. He and Stark, who was out to provide company (and a little warmth via the flame of his tail), weren't too far from the mountain, but they were still distant enough to take in the intense view. The forests surrounding Ollie's path were relatively calm considering the rumors he had heard of their typical nature. It was a serene silence, filled with the occasional buzzing of a bug, and a rare rustling of things deeper in. Somewhere in the distance, a Kricketune could be heard fiddling a peaceful melody, something almost like a serenade, but somewhat more raw. The path itself was clear, well lit by the gleaming moon above. The things its beams touched were pale and beautiful, and those that they didn't were a steep contrast, darkly shadowed, yet still somehow undaunting. The world held a resonance, and Ollie couldn't help but be moved into expectation: tonight would be interesting. As he and Stark continued down the path, he began to notice an extremely fine mist in the air, a brisk mixture of cool breezes and minuscule specs of water that made his breath just a little bit thicker. The impending wall that was Mount Arath changed quickly from something before them to something above them, an impressive, sky-bound monolith of nature, of stone, foliage, and rivers. The mist became ever more present as they closed in on their goal, and soon, several figures could be seen through the haze, not far from one of the falling torrents of water. Ollie continued on his way toward the group ahead, but stopped as he realized something. He looked to his side where Stark stood, nearly glowing from the bright moonlight on his pallid skin. The lizard seemed happy enough, but in his eyes, Ollie could see he was strained. The flame of his tail was not as vibrant as it should be. The source of the trouble was anything but difficult to conclude. Stark was a fire type exposed to cold, wet air. The combination was very bad for his health. "Are you okay?" he asked his partner, though the answer was fairly plain. Stark gave a nonchalant wave and an easy pose, but his expression was obviously a thin mask to save his dignity. The redhead chuckled a little at his Charmeleon, but called him back into his pokeball none the less. As the light of the ball touched and drew in Stark, Ollie saw the flash of relief in his face. I'll have to be careful where I let him out here. Having finished with that, he continued toward the group in the distance. As he closed in, Ollie started to make out the figures. One was a fairly short, dark-haired girl, a large bird-Pokémon on her arm, and something from the Ponyta line by her side. The other human was a little taller than her, and seemed to be quite fidgety. He figured this might be a good time to take his medication. Before he left the city, he made sure to stock up. A simple Pokémon rescue sounded like nothing too difficult, but given what he had heard about the nature of Mount Arath, he had no idea how long the trip might take. Ollie pulled a small container from his coat pocket, and carefully poured out a small handful of pills. He counted out two of the larger ones, big enough to gag most people, and one of the tiny ones. He slid the rest back into the bottle, put it back, and dumped the ones he kept into his mouth, swallowing them with a single gulp. He'd been doing this for quite some time now, and had learned how to take them dry. Eventually, Ollie was close enough to shout an "Allo!" to the group. He saw the horn on the horse, and realized it was a Rapidash. The bird, in turn, he found to be a Pidgeotto, and appeared the restless type. He was a little disappointed in himself for not being able to recognize that at first, as he had seen many in his travels. "I'm sorry it took me so long. I had to come on foot, and it was a good ways here. My name's Ollander, but you can call me Ollie..." Edited by RikuMurasaki, Jul 6 2011, 05:54 PM.

"Isn't this place AMAZING!" Lillian gazed in awe at her surroundings. She'd never seen such a place in person, only ever in pictures. Life at the lab had been rather exclusive and she hadn't gotten out much. The young woman was seated comfortably atop her Metagross trying to take in everything in at once. Her vibrant sapphire hair streamed behind her as the steel type glided effortlessly over the forest floor. The metal monster was as equally impressed by the mountain's surroundings. It hadn't gotten out anymore than its trainer had. Lillian checked her laptop on which she'd written down the time and location for the meet up. She had no idea who this Jonathan person was but he'd said he'd lost his Onix. How that happened Lillian couldn't figure being that the sheer size of an Onix would make it difficult to loose track of. She did know that Onix could move surprisingly fast underground and assumed that perhaps that was how the rock snake was eluding its trainer. Why it would do such a thing though she couldn't be sure. Whatever the problem, Lillian was excited to help and be apart of a real adventure! "Meta." "Hmm? What's up Mech?" Lillian glanced down at the top of the Metagross's head. Mech as she called him began to slow his pace. Ahead were three humanoid figures along with their Pokémon. Lillian beamed excitedly. She tucked her laptop away in her side satchel then stood up on Mech to wave cheerfully at the group. "HI! I'm here! Sorry if we're late." Mech stopped and extended his four limbs until they slammed into the earth with surprising force. Lillian hopped down from the steel psychic's back and gave everyone a wide grin. "Oh! I'm Lillian and this is Mech. Say hi Mech." "Metagross." Mech closed his eyes and dipped the front of his body forward in greeting. Lillian giggled and patted the top of Mech's body. "Soo! What's the plan?" |

"Glad you all could make it! My name is Jonathan, and it's a pleasure to meet all of you. I'm terribly excited to get this expedition under way, and I'd like to take the time now to thank all of you for coming out; however, I feel I should let you guys in on a little bit of information. My Onix may not be the happiest of campers when and if we find him. You see, a couple of days ago, we had a mishap in one of our training sessions. Omega, my Onix, thought it would be funny if he followed my instructions a little too literally, and he got himself incredibly hurt by a nasty Wartortle. Now he blames me for giving faulty directions, and insists I go to trainer rehabilitation. Tactics and what not. Anyway, he's pretty peeved with me, so he may not be the friendliest thing you meet on this expedition. I hope you understand." Jonathan pulled at his collar a bit, slightly nervous to hear the responses these people would have to his tale. The cool breeze left his hair again disheveled, but this time Jonathan made no attempt at straightening either it or his now again unkempt jacket. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a small, metallic item that quickly expanded, then exploded into a bright, eerie red light. The Kadabra looked happy, excited even, and quickly took note of his surroundings. He nodded his head gracefully at each of the trainers present, and quickly looked towards Jonathan. You've got to be kidding me. Am I anything but a taxi service and a Chess trainer to you? I'm more than just a pet; I told you when I first evolved that if you wished to keep me, you'd do best to treat me as an equal. Can't we talk some time? Just shoot the breeze about politics and advanced quantum physics? I know more than just how to teleport and whip your butt in Chess, you know. Okay, so that may be paraphrasing, but that's exactly the connotation he got from his trusted taxi when he flooded Jonathan's mind with his feelings. None of the trainers heard this exchange, of course, but with the scolded look now passing over Jonathan's face, one could safely assume that some kind of communication transpired. "The game plan is pretty simple. We're going to have Rex here give us a ride up to the top of that column that's closes to us. I have a feeling that Omega may have tunneled up to the top. If you haven't teleported before, don't worry too much. Some post-quantum-fluxuation sickness is common, but it's relatively painless. So whenever you guys are ready, we can go ahead and get a move on, if you'd like. I'll go into further explaination about what's next once we get up there. So again, once you're ready, just take Rex's hand and POOF. We're off! |

Ollie didn't quite know what to make of the boy's situation. His Onix's attitude could easily be attributed to both inexperience and immaturity. An inexperienced Pokémon sometimes takes an order too far, or not far enough, and an immature Pokémon sometimes has a habit of hot-dogging. Similar could be said for a trainer, with an inexperienced trainer not having the knowledge needed to properly command the Pokémon, and an immature trainer unable to lead by example. Somehow, he doubted it was the former, as he had managed to train his Abra into a Kadabra, but that may have been luck. This whole situation could have been nothing more than a string of nasty luck. The world had an interesting habit of making things happen for no given reason. Still, a mission was a mission, and he would go through with it to the end. Stark had been bugging him to see some action for quite a while, and an angry rock-serpent sounded like just the kind of challenge he would love. His Charmeleon particularly liked fighting things he had a disadvantage against, and flames don't typically serve to do more than cause an itch when the target is a massive creature made of solid stone. Sounds right up his alley, he thought, wondering how his friend might handle the creature given the opportunity to fight it. Dragon dance is gonna be important, but that won't serve to do much more than give us a slight speed advantage. We'll need something big. Maybe some team strategy with the others here... Teamwork wasn't a new concept for them. Ollie may only have had Stark, but they had worked with others before, and found that creative minds could find some rather amusing ways to get the job done. Speaking of getting the job done. Ollie would have been fine with teleportation travel if it weren't for the biting glare this particular Kadabra had given Jonathan, and the obvious message it was sending. He'd seen angry teleporters, and they could cause quite a mess if they wanted to, intentionally splinching people to get back at their trainers. The look Rex wore now wasn't too bad though, so Ollie hesitantly took the Pokémon's hand, and prepared for the always gut-tearing sensation of instant travel. "Ready when you guys are." |
