"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." - Nikola Tesla

The sun shone brightly through the window. It seemed to be an hour or so after the sun had risen, which is why our hero is still asleep... slacker. Aiden awoke to a crash in his closet. The young man sat straight up; panic in his eyes. What the hell was that? He glanced over to his window, which was wide open. He was sure he had closed it last night, which meant that something had managed to open it and is now scouring through his stuff. Aiden slowly and quietly pulled off his knit blanket and tip toed toward the closet. Placing a hand on the handle, he stopped for a moment to gather some courage. In a quick motion, he pulled open the closet door and startled the little creature inside. Acting upon instinct, the little yellow mouse let out a spark of electricity and a squeak of surprise. The bolt hit Aiden squarely in the chest, knocking him off of his feet. Before Aiden could get up, the Pichu ran across his chest and sprinted toward the window. As it leapt off of his chest, he also felt cloth brush across his face. He turned to look and saw that the Pokémon had nabbed his favorite scarf. "Oh no no no! You are not taking that, you little monster! C'mere!" Aiden yelped, grabbing for the scarf. His hand gripped the edge of the scarf, and he pulled. At this point the Pichu had jumped toward the window for a clean escape, only to be pulled back toward the ground. Pichu hit the ground and rolled, unsure of what just happened. Aiden laughed and pulled the scarf toward him. The Pichu in turn started clawing at the floor, trying to keep from being pulled back. Once the yellow mouse realized that that plan was not working, it turned and ran toward Aiden. The Pichu opened its mouth wide and bit hard into Aiden's left hand. Aiden yelped and let go, the fabric slipping through his fingers. The Pichu dashed toward the window and jumped outside into a nearby tree. Aiden scrambled to his feet and ran downstairs. At the bottom of his stairs, stood his mom. She had heard all of the commotion and was about to investigate. "Aiden what-" She was interrupted by Aiden yelling something about vermin and his scarf as he ran out the front door in only pajama pants and a shirt. He looked around frantically for the little beast, his long hair getting in his eyes as his head swung left and right. The sun was bright, causing him to squint. Through teary eyes, he managed to see the little creature running toward a patch of trees across the street. The young man pursued and cornered the Pichu next to a tree. The Pichu looked around frantically and decided there was only one way to go, up. The creature scrambled up the tree before Aiden could even get a chance to grab at it. The Pichu noticed that Aiden was making no attempt to climb the tree chuckled. It then proceeded to turn around an slap its rear mockingly. Aiden was taken aback by the actions of the Pokémon, and kicked the tree. The tree must have not been as large as he thought, because the kick shook the tree. This knocked the Pichu off balance, sending it crashing down. It bounced off of a couple branches before having a clear shot to the ground. Aiden saw what was happening, and his first instinct was to dive for the little mouse. The Pichu landed in Aiden's arms just before the young man hit the ground. Aiden stood up, still holding the cringing Pichu. When it realized that it was not on the ground, it uncurled to look at the man. There was a moment of awkward silence as the two just stared at each other. In an instant the Pichu hugged Aiden as little sparks ran over his clothing. Aiden smiled and waited until the Pichu let go... except that it didn't. At this point, the boy gave up on getting his scarf back. All he wanted was just to carry on with his life. Maybe mom will know how to get this thing to let go. Aiden walked back to his house, trying to pry the grateful Pichu off of his shirt. When the young man got back to his home, he met up with his mother, who giggled when she saw the mouse clinging to her son. Aiden explained what had happened and why he had dashed out of the house like he did. He also explained that the Pichu now won't let go of him. After a while, the two were finally able to get the Pokémon off of him and calmed down. They set out some food for it to feast on in the kitchen, and sat in the living room. It wasn't long before they heard scraping. The cause of the noise was the little mouse dragging the bowl of food over next to Aiden's feet. It looked up at him, then turned and continued eating. "It looks like it never wants to leave your side now." Aiden's mother pointed out while hiding a smile. "I don't believe that it will want to leave later either." Aiden sighed and scratched his head. "But I didn't ask for a Pokémon, nor do I really want to take care of one. This was all just an accident. It fell, and my reflexes kicked in." "Well that doesn't really matter now does it? We'll see what it does tonight and figure out what to do from there." Aiden's mother finished her statement with a nod, then left the room. A few days passed and the Pichu stuck around, never letting go of the scarf or Aiden. The two had a long talk about what to do with the little Pokémon that ended in Aiden's mom telling him that he is going to go adventure and get some badges. This was not open for discussion, and the decision was final. A couple days after that, Aiden stepped outside his door with a backpack full of clothes and supplies, and a ticket to Ayer. Looking down at the little Pichu that had one hand on his pant leg, and the other on the scarf around its neck, Aiden smiled. "Alright little Luce, let's get going. Gotta make mom proud right?" Aiden sighed and started walking. The Pichu let go for a moment as its new master walked off in front of it. Luce sat there for just a second, smiled with a quick nod, then raced to catch up. |
