Assistant manager of liability aggregation
This would be an interesting, life changing sort of a journey for you, wouldn't it? From spending most of your time inside on a computer, to interacting in the outside world with a Pokémon at your side. Well... the first thing that one noticed was the brightness. It was late in the morning, and the sun was well up, even at this time of year. The air was crisp, not all the way to cold, but you probably wouldn't want to spend a lot of time swimming or running around in shorts on a day like this.

As a Riverwood native, you at least knew the rough layout of the city. You were definitely aware of the park downtown, of course, which as you well know is a good place to pick a fight with some wild Pokémon. However, there's nothing saying you have to go there first. Or at all, if you'd rather not. Even this far away from the park, you could see a small Voltorb rolling merrily down the edge of the sidewalk, bumping into things every now and then. Maybe it was merry. It was kind of hard to tell with a solid red and white ball.

Now that you were a Pokémon Trainer, you could always drop in on Professor Hazel. She might welcome a more tech-minded trainer onto her research squad, and it could be a good way to mesh your talents with learning about Pokémon. She handed out some pretty decent rewards to trainers who helped out enough with filling up those new Pokedexes.

It might be a good idea to pay attention to the Pokémon Centers too. With luck, you and Viral wouldn't get into any serious trouble, but being prepared was always a good idea, right? Plus, you can get advice there, and help with any Pokémon problems you might run into. In fact, one of the most well-frequented Pokémon Centers was the one across from Professor Hazel's lab. There was a teenage girl there, playing with a frisky looking Meowth. She might be up for a Pokémon battle, if you wanted to start things off with a bang.

~"Pokeballs: necessary for a Trainer to procure additional members of his team. Imperative for combat. Potion: Good for if you're losing the game. Got to get another one. Three days worth of clothing, money in plastic..."~ Corban steadily listed off the current items he had in his possession, attempting to assess exactly where it was that he should head first. When he stepped out the door, the light was just as it always was: bright and overwhelming at first, but then not so bad. Dark blue jeans and a crimson button-down probably would have been too light for the briskness of the day, but with his trenchcoat on the temperature was not so bad. It also gave him a chance to see Viral better; a lovely creature, really. She was of healthy weight, and obviously intelligent; cautious, but definitely not lacking some "bull-headed" aspect of her personality. Her short, sleek coat shone nicely in the sunlight. Looking down at his first Pokémon, he spoke in a slightly higher voice than normal (almost cooing to her, if he were to be embarrassingly honest with himself) "A good companion, for sure, aren't ya, Viral?"

The Houndour, who always seemed to be looking up at him, just huffed and put her nose to the ground, the short nub of a tail she possessed wagging happily at being outdoors. Corban looked around, taking in his surroundings and noting the orb-shaped Pokémon almost immediately, but also noted the young girl playing with the feline Pokémon. He nervously cut his eyes to Viral for fear the she would undertake the timeless "dog chases cat" scenario. Thankfully, she seemed happy just to sit on her haunches and observe what was happening as well. ~"Well, let's see. Venturing out of town with only one Pokémon would be tedious; could easily foresee having to come back to town pretty quickly. Get more Pokémon as quickly as possible for defense purposes.."~ Corban also knew that he had do to some serious research before feeling comfortable getting "on the road." He'd definitely be hitting up the internet soon, but for now, he thought he knew the basics. Time to figure out exactly how Viral would stand up to other Pokémon, and to see whether she would react violently.

"Let's go, girl." He turned and strode purposefully towards the Voltorb that was rolling down the street. There was no sign of a trainer anywhere around the red and white ball, so his first priority was to make sure that Viral would even fight. Stopping about five feet behind the still-moving ball, he was about to call out to it when his newly acquired companion decided she wanted a much closer look. "Hey!" She paid no heed, jogging straight towards the Voltorb, apparently intent on getting a good sniff of it.

...oh, that poor Voltorb. The life of a Voltorb is, honestly, somewhat depressing. They constantly roll everywhere. As if that weren't bad enough, their eyes can only see so much while they're rolling. While rounding a corner, they may not see that pile of poo that's right there, and as it comes down, wham, stinky refuse smeared across its body. And sure, it can go fast, when you can barely even see where you're going? Hardly as good as it sounds. This Voltorb, devoid of any above-mentioned atrocities, however, is just peacefully rolling down the street, taking its sensory handicap in strides. It had to get around somehow, it figured, so why get angry over the inevitable?

Obviously, it wasn't expecting Viral's existence. Voltorb, while rolling, heard a shout as it saw a large, black mass approach it as it was looking behind itself. But, it kept going, and couldn't see it anymore! When it got to that point in its rotation once more, the mass was even closer, and it had a mouth and teeth and- Before the Voltorb could panic any more, it instinctively Charged up some electricity in an attempt to scare away this scary thing. Sure, it didn't know that Viral was just going to smell it, but how could it know? Now, it was just scared and confused and ready to fight as if its life depended on it.

The sounds of electricity were enough to prompt a slight yipe from Viral, surprising her while giving the ball enough time to roll ahead a little bit, rotating itself around to face its perceived assailant. It just sat there, staring at the dog while crackling with electricity. Maybe, just maybe, if it kept sitting there looking angry and electrified, this evil black thingie would go away and he could keep rolling in peace! And if not, he didn't want to attack it, since it looked like it could eat him, but if he had to...

Just as he had been lead to believe from previous experiences, strange Pokémon were almost never friendly about surprisingly encountering someone. This time, Corban had a Pokémon of his own, though, and although Viral had yipped when she heard the crackle of electricity, she did not give up her ground. The sense of empowerment he felt at the moment was closing on elation, what with being able to actually –capture- this Pokémon and use it to defend him. Bordering on being considered a “dark” emotion, the welling call to attack at all costs was just barely put out of his head by reason.

Viral was taking the situation in stride; her tail had stopped wagging, and she let forth a whimper to inform her trainer that she did not particularly like just standing here in front of a potential threat. Talking to his Houndour in a calm collected voice, he issued his first command. “All right, girl. Don’t get too close: I know you can use Fire type moves, so go ahead and hit it with as many of them as you can.” Containing his excitement was critical in allowing him the levelheadedness to comprise a functional strategy, but he couldn’t help running his hand along the inside of his trenchcoat, fingers playing over one of the miniaturized Pokeballs he would use to capture this Voltorb.

Viral was pumped for battle, you could tell. So, it was likely little surprise that the moment you told her to use a fire attack, she fired a great, big Ember towards the Voltorb. It was a pretty decently-sized fireball, all things considered. It still kept its form even as it flew towards the enemy! However, this Voltorb was prepared. Just as the fireball was about to connect with it, the electricity crackled, forming into a bright yellow orb in front of the Pokémon's eyes. It shot off in a straight line with a bang, rocketing right through the Ember and towards Viral's face. The fireball remained mostly undaunted, though, and slammed right into the poor, scared Voltorb with a good bit of force. Luckily, the last of the built-up electricity hadn't left its body, so the resilience bonus from Charge was still there upon impact. But a fireball is a fireball is a fireball, it did some damage. The Voltorb rolled backwards just a little bit from the force, but it quickly shoved itself forwards to counteract that.

Viral, unlike the Voltorb, didn't seem anywhere near as prepared. She didn't see that ball of electricity coming, so when the powered-up sphere slammed into her face, she let out a real sharp yelp, instinctively turning her face away from the source of the pain. A few little bits of electricity bounded across her body as it worked its way through her system. As a Trainer with little experience, that could be pretty unnerving, seeing an attack with enough force to throw residual energy off of the target. Viral was a tough girl, though, and it would take more than that to bring her down! Another mass of fire appeared in her mouth, and she shot off a second fireball towards the recovering enemy. It flew, exactly as the other one did, but without any sort of electrical energy to pierce a hole in it.

So the Voltorb took that attack too, and took it hard. It rolled back in a full rotation from the hit, and it wasn't looking too well at all. The normally angry eyes a Voltorb appeared to have were looking extremely sad and pained. It gathered energy for another electrical attack, firing a considerably weaker blast off towards Viral. This one hit her in the face, too, and she was showing signs of fatigue as well, but nowhere near as badly as the poor red and white guy. The Voltorb looked about to collapse, but one move from either party would likely finish the battle.

Battle Tracker
Past Rounds
Voltorb uses Charge, doubling power of next Electric-Type move and giving Sp.Defense, costing 4EP.

This Round
Attacks
Viral uses an Ember, which reaches the Voltorb just as it uses a Global Electric Attack. Due to Charge, the attack shoots through the fire and hits Viral, while the Ember still hits the Voltorb. Voltorb uses another Global Electric and takes the Ember, just barely staying up.

Calculations
Viral Ember: (((((40/5) -1)x1.1)x1)x1) + 1 = 7.7 + 1 = 8.7 => 9, 4EP
Voltorb Global Electric: (((((20/5) +0)x1.2)x1)x2) + 1 = 9.6 + 1 = 10.6 => 11, 4EP
Viral Ember: (((((40/5) +0)x1.1)x1)x1) + 1 = 8.8 + 1 = 9.8 => 10, 4EP
Voltorb Global Electric: (((((20/5 +0)x1.2)x1)x1) + 1 = 4.8 + 1 = 5.8 => 6, 4EP

Rolled 2d10 to see if Viral's Embers inflicted Burn status(1), but I rolled an 8 and a 5.

Total damage to Voltorb: 19/20
Total damage to Viral: 17/20

~” Damn, ten minutes on the street and this escapade is getting pretty intense.”~ As he watched his Houndour blast the opposing Voltorb with flames, Corban realized that the pup did not see the counterattack until it was too late. “Watch ou--!” Viral took the hit hard, but at least its’ first attack had hit. The battle continued with Viral scoring an even more impressive hit upon the white-and-red orb, but once again she was struck with a nasty counter.

“All right, Viral. You’re doing so good, pup!” From his brief period of research, he knew that Pokémon could be caught even after they were KO’d; however, his Houndour did not look too good. With her head low, eyes focused intently on her foe, she softly whimpered after the assault of the previous round. “Don’t worry, girl, it’s worse off than you are!” ~”Now or never!”~, he thought to himself as he removed an empty Pokeball from the inside of his jacket. Pressing the button to expand the Pokeball to its full size, Corban took two steps forward and lightly lobbed the device at the Voltorb. ~”Come on, come on…!”~

(( I know this is really, really, really lacking. There just... wasn't much that came to mind to say here. It's like a full four or five seconds with one simple thing going on in them :/ ))

The Voltorb was so exhausted, it didn't even notice that you were throwing a Pokeball until it was too late! Its eyes went wide with shock as it was enveloped in a red light, and pulled into the container. The ball wiggled once, twice, three times... and then it went immobile! You caught the Voltorb! Take a second to cheer and stuff, you earned it!

And with both of your Pokémon in terrible shape, you probably want to go and get them healed up before you do anything else. Right?

End
Great job! You caught a Voltorb! Would you like to give a nickname to the captured Pokémon?

...

That aside, let's break stuff down.

Viral dealt out 19 damage to the Voltorb's 20 maximum. That's 95%.
(.95)(2(1/2 5 * 10)) = (.95)(50) = 47.5 => 48
Viral gained 48 :exp and needs 2 :exp to reach Level 6!

Voltorb dealt out 17 damage to Viral's 20 maximum. That's 85%.
(.85)(2(.5 5 * 10)) = (.85)(50) = 42.5 => 43
Voltorb gained 43 :exp and needs 7 :exp to reach Level 6!

These updates will be made accordingly.

Blue eyes locked intently on the Pokeball as it left his hand, Corban let out an excited whoop when the Pokeball connected, pulling the Voltorb in. As the Pokeball shook, the teen found himself cliché-ly crossing his fingers and holding his breath. Soon enough the Pokeball stopped moving and the boy let out an even louder yell. “Yes! C’mere, Viral, you were AWESOME!” The Houndour about-faced and gingerly ran back towards her trainer, who scooped her up into his arms and began scratching behind her ears. “You were sooo brave, such a good girl! Let’s go see what we got, huh?!”

Walking the few feet to where the Pokeball was sitting on the sidewalk, the boy bent down and picked it up, looking at the device with a sort of wonder in his eyes. “So, you’re going to be the first Pokémon I add to my collection, huh?” Minimizing the container and slipping it into one of the many pockets on the inside of his trenchcoat, it was pretty easy to figure out what he was supposed to do now. ~”Tough fight, even if it was over fast. Definitely have to heal up your Pokémon, and then stop and see if Professor Hazel has any advice for you.”~ His mother had suggested the latter idea as he was walking out the door, and he could not find any fault in the train of logic. Professor Hazel was perhaps the most respected source of information regarding Pokémon in the region, but he knew from the research he’d done that her undertaking was so massive that her research team was nearly a corporation in and of itself.

Viral still in his arms, Corban headed towards the nearest Pokémon Center a couple of blocks away. He made excellent time, nearly bursting at the seams mentally with excitement. He couldn’t believe his luck, having caught his first Pokémon so soon after starting out. ~” Don’t get too excited, though. You still have TONS of work to do.”~ No matter how critical he was being on himself, he couldn’t find it in his heart to keep the serious mindset he swore he would maintain. Whistling softly as he opened the door to the Pokémon Center, he waited patiently in line at the counter. When it was his turn to turn over his Pokémon, he gently kissed Viral on the head. “All right, girl. We’re going to have you fully functional in no time. I’ll see you as soon as you get done!” He pressed the button on her Pokeball, then turned both of the Pokeballs in his possession over to the Nurse before looking around to see if there was anything interesting going on in the Center. After all, he had to pass the time somehow, or else he would surely go stir-crazy with excitement.

Clearly, you were bored. And bored in a Pokémon Center, no less! That's probably one of the worst places to be bored, especially if you're waiting for your Pokémon to be healed. There were Trainers all over the place, but none were available to do much of anything, simply because the majority of them didn't have any Pokémon to work with! If you took the time to look around in your immense boredom, you would see all manner of people, all looking as if they were anxiously awaiting their restored Pokémon. There was a rather normal-looking boy, complete with standard t-shirt, shorts, and backwards cap. He looked like the type to own a top percentile Ratatta or something to that effect. There was a pair of twins swaying back and forth with the ever-so-catchy elevator-like music that echoed through every single Pokémon Center ever. There were even a few adults, on laptops or cell phones or whatever else the rarely seen adults in a Pokémon universe do in their spare time. And over in a corner was a girl who actually looked a little out of the ordinary, simply because she did have a Pokémon with her. And the fact that she kept looking over at you didn't make her much easier to ignore.

The girl had simple brown hair reaching down just barely past her shoulders. You couldn't see what color her eyes were (what a creepy thing to do to someone across the room!) whether you wanted to or not, because she was wearing a pair of glasses that were reflecting the shine from a fluorescent light on the ceiling. She wore a simple white blouse, with a simple white undershirt underneath, with a very thin light blue jacket around it. She had a long white skirt that reached down to about her knees and a pair of standard white tennis shoes. Clearly she liked the color white. But there was a Pokémon in her lap, an odd thing indeed. It was a little blue creature with four stubby legs and a yellow, bill-like mouth area under its two eyes. But what you would be likely to notice would be the green lilypad on its head... or its back... whichever. The little girl had a Lotad sitting on her lap, you see.

But before you could stare any more (or not, assuming you just gave her a passing glance), a woman's voice rang out from the counter. "Sir, your Pokémon are healed to full health! And so are yours, yours, and yours." it said, beckoning you and a few other Trainers over. The nurse placed a tray on the counter, filled with six different Pokeballs. The holes in the tray that the orbs sat in were divided by small little removable walls, marked with multiple different names. This Pokémon Center likely got so much business that it took to treating multiple Trainers' Pokémon at once. It took little more than a second for you to find the pair with a sticky note marked "Corban" between them, the only pair in the bunch. Obviously, you took your Pokeballs.

Standing next to you was the girl with the Lotad, who took a Pokeball of her own. By the looks of it, she had two Pokémon. She looked at you, noting your two Pokémon. Clearly, the wheels were turning for the girl, because she lightly tapped you on the shoulder. "Ex-excuse me. I see that you have two Pokémon, and I do, too. That means you know what you're doing, at least. Would you like to have a battle?" The Lotad shouted its little Lotad-cry, bouncing about giddily in its owner's arms. That little lilypadthing wanted a battle, too, by the looks of things! It wouldn't be a bad idea to take her up on that offer, you know, since two Pokémon means lots of experience, and there is a Pokémon Center right above your head. But if you didn't want to have your first Trainer Battle yet, that's perfectly cool, too.

Corban’s head was filled with a maelstrom of different thoughts, ranging from battle strategies to wondering exactly what his pair of Pokémon were capable of. All throughout his brainstorming, though, his bright blue eyes steadily processed information passing in front of them, from the boring flock of mundane personalities going about their business in the Pokémon Center to the few persons’ of interest he could find within the crowd. It was difficult for the (let’s face it, nerd) socially incompetent boy not to gawk at the female sitting against the wall opposite of him, especially considering that she was initiating the nonverbal exchange with looks that were none too shy.

Happenstance brought them within speaking distance as the Nurse beckoned for his attention, and suddenly he knew exactly who the Pokémon Trainers that had any battle experience were. Unfortunately for him, his tongue-tied self had no chance of initiating conversation with a complete stranger, especially one that he found attractive. The Gods of social interaction smiled upon him, though, and as he pulled the pair of Pokeballs from the tray in front of him and placed them in their correct pocket in his trenchcoat, she began talking to him. Seemed she wanted a battle; in his opinion, he was not ready. His ego, on the other hand, said “Preen for the pretty lady, Corban. Don’t look like a wuss!” Rationalizing with himself was easy under most circumstances, but this was not one of them. “U-uh….sure! Nothing else to do around here at the moment, right?” The boy chuckled nervously while reaming himself for sounding so stupid. “Let’s battle, then!”

Quickly retrieving Viral's Pokeball, he released the Houndour and knelt down beside her for a moment, scratching behind her ear gently. "This pretty lady wants to battle, girl! We're gonna have some fun!" Viral seemed to be just fine with this idea, feeling pretty good after her time of restoration at the Pokémon Center; the nub of her tail was wagging, and she licked his face two or three times before spinning around in a circle, looking for whatever opponent it was she'd be facing this time.

"Hehe, really? You'll battle with me?" she said, giving her Lotad a little squeezy-hug. The pair was thrilled! But instead of preparing herself for a battle, the girl grabbed you by the arm, dragging you outside of the Pokémon Center! Viral was quick enough to follow, but she didn't really pick up on any hostility from the girl, so she didn't do any barking or snarling. She was probably just really confused. The moment you both got out of the door, she let go of your arm, running a few feet behind you. It wouldn't do to block the entrance to the Pokémon Center with a battle, after all!

"S-sorry about that... I just don't think that the Nurses would like a battle inside the Pokémon Center, is all..." She trailed off, looking down at her feet, as if she'd done something she wasn't supposed to. A few little squirms from the Lotad still in her arms snapped her out of it, however, and she was quickly smiling again. "Oh, I'm sorry, Lotad, you're right! I never introduced myself to him! Uh, well, I'm Anna! I... I hope this will be a fun battle!" Sadly, she didn't wait for your awkward nerd's reply, Corban. She was too busy trying to find a Pokeball! After a few seconds of looking around her person, her face lit up as she reached into a pocket on her jacket, pulling out a Pokeball with a swirling blue pattern on it. It wasn't anything that you'd seen before, or anything that looked normal, so it was probably just personalized. Anna threw the ball into the air as it opened, shouting "Let's go!" as a red light aimed itself towards the ground. If you hadn't figured it out, she wasn't sending out her Lotad first!

What emerged from the light was anything but a little Lotad. It was a golden-yellow color, in a star shape. It had bright yellow plating of some kind in its center, around a red jewel of some sort. Oddly enough, it didn't look like it had a face, or a mouth, so how did it breathe? Interesting thought process aside, it was a Staryu, standing tall and proud towards Viral, the likely opponent. But, it just stood there, doing... absolutely nothing! Anna's voice broke the awkward silence that likely happened with a sheepish laugh, accompanied by another cheery cry from her Lotad.

"Oh, I'm sorry about that! I wanted to let you go first, since I had to drag you out here. I don't want my Staryu to do anything when you're not ready, you see." So she stood there, smiling again, waiting for you to make the first move, whatever that would be.

If there was one thing that Corban could appreciate it was an attractive, amicable girl that was willing to take control. As he was pretty much hauled out of the Pokémon center by his arm, he was already trying to think about what he knew about his opponent. ~"She's nice, but almost...too nice. She has two Pokémon, one of which he knew was a Lotad, but he had been too occupied staring at her when she was talking to have taken a look at what the other Pokémon she owned was. She was also....talking to him!"~ Bringing his attention back to...Anna, she said her name was, he was quick to reply. "Yeah, I don't --."

It appeared that he also did not have to worry about his tongue-tiedness coming into play, because Corban wasn't going to get a word in edge-wise with this girl. He watched intently as she rummaged around on her person, looking for something purposefully. As she came up with an intricately patterned Pokeball (~"Got to get some of those"~), he had his Poketech ready when her Staryu appeared. ~"A Water Pokémon, huh? Looks like she likes collecting them..unfortunately for Viral. Perhaps it's time to give the new guy a shot."~ Kneeling down to give Viral a few scratches on the head, he said "Sorry, pup. You're gonna have to sit out for the first round; we always think about strategy.." The young Houndour seemed a bit sad, but just gave two sharp barks before sitting down on her haunches. Plucking the Voltorb's Pokeball from inside his pocket, he released the newest addition to his Pokémon "team."
The small red and white orb appeared in a flash of crimson light; it rolled around aimlessly, before meeting Corban's gaze, looking almost as curious about its' new Trainer as Corban was about it. "Hey there, Voltorb..I know you can fight, you gave me a run for my money when I caught you. Time to show me that you can win, now." Looking back at Anna, she explained that she was going to give him the opportunity to give the first commands. Corban ran a hand through his hair, a behavior that was a tell-tale sign of his nerves.

"Voltorb! Go ahead and give that Staryu a little shock; but, don't let it stay on the outside! Get inside and hit it as hard as you can as soon as you're done!" He figured that by keeping the Water Pokémon on the defensive, it would only be a matter of time before his Voltorb could land a solid physical hit on its' opponent, which (according to what he'd read on his Poketech) could result in paralysis. But now, all he could do was sit back and see how the his first Trainer battle would work out; almost as an afterthought, his hand wrapped around the one Potion he had in his possession. Better safe than sorry.

Anna couldn't help but stare, wide-eyed, at the Voltorb as it came from its Pokeball. It was... it looked like a living Pokeball! Did it have another Pokémon inside it? She gasped as she saw it roll around on its own, with a pair of eyes and everything! It was so bizarre. She didn't have any idea what an attacking Pokeball could do, so it was all the more reason to take a moment and let it have the first move. However, when she heard "shock", her eyes went even wider as a frightened gasp and a perfectly placed "Oh no...!" as she blanked out and managed to not hear anything else you'd said. But without a moment's hesitation, your Voltorb began charging up an electrical attack, one that, albeit weak, was the full extent of its electrocutionizing potential at this point in its life. It fired the attack off as a ball of golden energy that crackled with little arcs of electricity as it soared straight towards the Staryu that was still waiting for its Trainer's command.

"H-harden!" was how she reacted to the energy, and the Staryu had fortified its body almost instantly after the command was given, just as the energy slammed right into the Star Pokémon's red jewel core thingie. And that attack? It hit the water Pokémon hard. Its rigid stance threatened to falter for a moment after the impact, but the Staryu quickly shook it off, just as the Voltorb began its Tackle. "D-don't let it just hit you, Staryu, hit it back!" she shouted, showing quite a bit of frustration with her Pokémon's lack of visible enthusiasm... or really visible anything. But, the Staryu was more than able to comply, shooting off into a Tackle that flew in an arc around the Voltorb, so that it had to change course as well to score a hit. They both slammed into each other with a great bit of force, each sending the other flying back a few feet, oddly enough right back to where they were standing when they came out of their Pokeballs.

"Quick, hit it with some water before it can attack again! she shouted, taking full advantage of the pair's return to their original positions. Voltorb, being a sphere, had to get himself back in a position where he could see his opponent without being upside-down, so he wasn't able to dodge the small burst of water. But... it's just water, what could it really do to him, aside from hit him with some force? However, that force was enough to bring the Voltorb to his last legs, as well. Chances are, the next attack to connect would bring the target out of the match!

Corban watched as the first round of the battle effectively began; one of the first things he noticed was that Voltorb took commands excellently. The small Pokémon reacted almost instantly after hearing what he wanted it to do, with great results. Corban was certain that if Anna had not gotten the word to Staryu to bring up its’ defenses they might have been dealing with a one-round fight. When Voltorb and the Staryu both went hurtling into each other, the teen also made note of the speed at which his Pokémon moved: it might be a tiny Pokémon, but it certainly was –fast.-

Small beads of sweat began to form on Corban’s brow as he tried to think fast; if he ordered his Voltorb to attack first and it missed, surely the Voltorb would wind up getting struck with a counter; certainly there was no time to use his potion: Staryu was not slow, by any means. However, Voltorb’s method of movement disallowed it from being particularly dexterous, so Corban did the only thing that seemed intelligent to him: “Voltorb, hit that Staryu with another jolt as soon as you can! Don’t give it a chance to hit ya!”

The Voltorb, having taken what could only be considered to be a pretty rough round, swiveled about, slowly rolling in a half-circle as it stared down its’ opponent. It knew that of the two attacks it had landed the last round, the first had been the most effective. After having been jumped less than a couple of hours ago by his new Trainer and now being faced with another tough opponent, there was nothing that it wanted to do more than lash out immediately at the Staryu anyways; Corban’s orders just confirmed the Voltorb’s instincts.

(Single Base-energy attack.)

Anna let out a sigh at her predicament. This guy's Voltorb was good! It was fast, it was strong, it was a great Pokémon. She smiled, though more due to being impressed than anything else. Plus, she barely even knew that a Pokémon could do something like fire electricity at such a low level, so she was definitely glad to be learning something. Anna never expected an unassuming ball with eyes to be so capable! Her new Staryu was doing a great job, too, for its first time! But now, they were at a complete stalemate. If Staryu tried to go on an offensive, then Voltorb would hit it. But if Voltorb went on an offensive, then Staryu would hit it. And one hit would take the other out of commission! Anna sighed again, sure that what she planned to do would be the best option.

"Take it down with water, Staryu! You can do it! Try to move around and attack!" she shouted, making both of your plans extremely obvious to the other. But, that hardly mattered, since it was more of a quick draw contest between Staryu and Voltorb. Staryu began to charge a ball of water, and the moment energy began to form around the crystal, Voltorb fired off a mass of electricity. However, since Staryu began to attack first, it was able to move roll itself to the side, firing off the water straight towards Voltorb. Sadly, it wasn't good enough, as the electricity slammed into one of the points on the starfish, sending it spinning and slamming into the ground. Voltorb, confident that its electricity would hit without error, wasn't prepared for the water to come from his foe. So, he got hit, as well. He didn't react anywhere near as dramatically, but he was down for the count.

Anna smiled, sure to say "You did a great job, Staryu." before calling it back. Lotad looked displeased, and began to squirm about in her arms until he broke free, falling to the ground with determination. There was a powerful look in that little lilypad-thing's eyes, and it didn't look like it would go down without a fight. But Anna, by the looks of things, wanted to wait for you to make the first move again, even though it was the make-or-break factor of the last battle. What a nice girl.
