"I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything." - Nikola Tesla
Tohea is in archive mode, but the legend lives on. |

Ayer. The first part of Tohea most people saw, the city was obviously dressed to impress. The docks for the ferries arriving and departing daily were spotlessly clean and perfectly maintained, and there was even a vendor selling ice cream and salted pretzels. The beach itself was lovely, a wide stretch of white sand sloping gradually into playful surf. Many people were on the beach, either sunbathing for the last few warm rays of summer, playing with Pokémon, reading... Could be a fun place to hang out for a while. The city itself lay directly ahead, the roads broad, and laid out in such a way as to silently welcome a person, and encourage them to explore. You couldn't see too much of the city from the beach, but it was obvious the buildings got bigger and more flashy the closer to the town center you went. There were helpful signposts everywhere. It would probably be hard to get lost here, Ayer was set up for tourists. In the immediate vicinity, you were still standing on the pier, and there was water to either side of you. A low rail ran around much of the docks, more to warn you the edge was there than to actually catch you if you tried really hard to fall off. A splash down below you drew your attention, the flash of red scales appearing briefly, then dipping back down under the water. A few moments later, and a fish Pokémon poked its head up above the waves, apparently seeing if you had any food you were going to give to it. Might be an easy way to get a Pokémon, if you cared to drop something edible into its waiting mouth. Or you could have a quick battle to begin your stay in Tohea. Or get into the city proper, and ignore the odd little fish. Lv 5

Teddy stood on the majestic pier of Ayer city; ahead he could see towering building and hotels as well as a plethora of signs and arrows giving directions to new arrivals. To his right he noticed the beautiful beach; the pale sand was cascaded with the rainbow colours of hundreds of towels and beach umbrellas. There was a sparkle in his eye, as he loved sunbathing but the beach was slightly overcrowded and Teddy needed to sort himself out first before he could relax, he had after all only just arrived on this new island. Just as he was about to walk off, he noticed a tiny splash in the water to his left. He took a closer look only to see flickers of red, but after a few seconds a red scaled Pokémon emerged from the dark waters. 'A magikarp,' Teddy thought to himself, he had seen many while staring at the sea on his cruise to Tohea, but this was the closest he had ever been to one. "Are you hungry little guy?" Teddy reached into his pockets, pulled out a few food pellets and tossed them towards the patient Pokémon. In that moment Teddy realized that Lotad must have been hungry as well. "Come out Lotad," Teddy held out the pokeball which released his Pokémon to join him on the pier. "Hey buddy, how did you find the journey?" he asked while holding some pellets in his right hand and scratching Lotad's back with his left. "Lota...Lota," replied the little lilypad Pokémon with a smile, it really loved when it got its back scratched. Teddy tossed a few more pellets in the water for the magikarp, "Lotad meet Magikarp." Lotad jumped into the water while giving Magikarp a splash and smile, which was his way of a greeting. Teddy smiled too as he got a bit wet, "Hey Magikarp, do you know of any secret spots along the beach, it's a bit crowded here?" Teddy was hoping the Magikarp would be his tour guide for the day; it was a bit unnerving to be in a new area without really knowing anyone or anywhere to go. |

Befriending a wild Pokémon could be fraught with peril, difficult, and sometimes completely unrewarding. This was not one of those times. This Magikarp was obviously a relaxed sort of Pokémon, and the gift of food was a very good move on your part. It splashed up and down a little in the water, looking about as pleased as a Magikarp can. Even when your Lotad dropped into the water beside it, the fish didn't seem too worried. He just bobbed in greeting. When you asked about places along the beach to go, it seemed to think for a minute, then flipped over in the water and swam out a little ways, staying near enough to the surface that you could track its progress. Luckily for you, Magikarp weren't the fastest fish in the sea, and Lotad was able to keep up with it. You were even able to keep up with him on shore! He seemed to be swimming towards what looked like a rocky slope at one end of the beach, bobbing to the surface every now and then to make sure you were still following him. After you'd gotten past the rocky strip, which required a little bit of climbing, more beach stretched ahead of you. It was rockier though, and narrower, which meant it wasn't in nearly so much demand by sunbathers. The Magikarp turned and swam very quickly at the shore all the sudden, executing a surprisingly graceful leap over a stretch of sand and rock, landing with a SPLOOSH! in a shallower tidal pool. It was full of pretty shells and sea creatures, although the Magikarp was the only Pokémon in it at the moment. Of course, a Magikarp would think a pretty tidal pool was a really cool, secret part of the beach. |
