An idea of mine, I haven't seen it done, but like the concept.

First, the concept pure:

"Rapid-fire RP" is just what it sounds like a series of 1-5 sentence quick posts, PM's or even IM's fired back and forth between a Mod and a member or a pair of members, taking an hour or so to RP out a conversation. Particularly these posts would consist more of words or brief actions than thoughts, motives or more complex actions. These should read largely like Screenplays, quick actions and mostly words. The mod (or one of the members) would then take the conversation adding in some thought detail and more detail to the actions and post it as a single post.

Why?

Well, really the fact of having long posts can seem awkward when you are attempting to talk to an NPC IC as the it ends up turning more into a series of monologues back and forth than a conversation. Also, this if done high pressure (like at the speed of a normal conversation) causes the player to have to try to think as their character in a relatively high pressure situation, say there even was a time limit on posts in this format.

I'd really like to see this implemented, particularly with casual conversations when first meeting an NPC (or other player character) and when in high pressure situations, when thinking on one's feet can save the character. Perhaps, it'd also be interesting to see some alt. battle system that was based off of having to make orders quickly and filling out the details of what happened later. [The last statement, I don't expect here given the amount of work put into the current system.]

Thoughts?

I like the idea largely for the effect on conversations with NPCs, since it seems like it would shorten the lengthy process of going through the RRT multiple times for short posts.

It could be done over IMs with each taking the part of the taking character and speaking in character the entire time at a normal conversation speed. This brings in the pressure of conversation and makes it mroe realistic.

To add to this, it seems as though there could be a special request for one of these when the journeyer thinks it would be a good time for it, and then they and the mod would set up a time to do it.

I don't think, however, it's a very good idea to use these for battle. Battles generally have thought out moves and in depth strategy that I don't think short posts could detail well enough.

That's exactly what I was thinking about when I added that part...battles often have complex stratagem, whilst the trainer apparently has only seconds to say things to the Pokémon. It's kinda taking advantage of "time freeze" to have a lot of time to think about what strategy to use in battle.

I, for one, have never been a fan of IM RPing and the likes, but I think this could hold it's value here. Alot more could be accomplished with a much more natural feeling to the entirety if things were done like this.

I'd only want this used for normal conversation with an NPC, though. If you have more than one thing to say to an NPC (Which you usually do), the reffing can get very awkward, as you have to try to make a post that decent, but all you ACTUALLY do is say. "Yes, I'd like to do this. Tell me more!"

I think that with this system, character's personalities will be able to have much subtler shade, and long-term NPCs will actually be viable.

IMO, it should fall on the player to do this. After they get reffed, set up an 'appointment' with a ref and let them know which NPC it is, then once they have the conversation (by whichever medium is agreed upon), the player concocts a post for it, and the ref that played the NPC can put their little stamp on it by adding their "edited by" on the player's respective post.

I've always liked the concept of this for large meetings, with multiple RPCs and NPCs. When many people need to be in once place for an Event or guild gathering, I wouldn't mind seeing a paragraph or two of just talking and taking in the moment.

Edit: But those are the only situations where I wouldn't mind seeing this sort of thing, I wouldn't want something like this to be abused and make everyone lazy. I believe it was already started, this would be a solid NONO for battles.
