Journey start for Ryua's Sherrie Dirk courtesy of Skooksaurus, the Reanimated... fossil? Okay wow I don't have a fittingly terrible nickname for him.

The sun just high enough in the sky to bring light down through the city smog, but just low enough on the horizon to make the denizens wary of its setting. All seemingly 'normal' folk seemed to pick up their pace as dusk encroached, choosing to be ignorant of the true nature of the city. A city's health can be judged on its night life, and with the looming poison above the city and the human plague that poisoned its streets, Kadaraa was most assuredly a place not to raise your family.

...But the quiet life was never your thing, was it? As a pseudo-street rat, you ought to feel a little too comfortable in your surroundings. You found yourself peering into a small alleyway between two competing supermarket chains. Local Pokémon were notorious for rumagging through the large, grey dumpsters that sat at its end, surviving off the expired food nobody had bothered to take home with them. Eventually, fed up with cleaning all the scraps of food off the street corner, someone had wised up to this and placed a large metal lock on the lid.

But where there's a will, there tends to be a way.

The windows from each of the supermarkets on either side of your vision illuminated the alley with a yellow hue, giving you just enough light to see a small, purple figure in front of one of the dumpsters. It scurred up its side almost too well, the dim flickering of the fluorescent light making it appear as if in broken frames, and sat eagerly upon its lid. From its body language alone, you could tell it was pretty hungry, and obviously not very self-reliant if it was living off of human scraps. The poor thing had probably escaped from a pet shop or an abusive trainer, then wound up on the streets with little knowledge of how to fend for itself. Either way, its tail clutched a large rock, which it was using smash at the container's hinges. It seemed to be working too, but the sound it made was hollow and generally unpleasant...but more importantly? It was loud. Loud noises attract unwanted attention, and with the city's police department increasing their rounds to crack down on street crime, it was something you should deal with if you want to stay in the area. We can't have you getting arrested this early in your journey, can we? Of course, running was always an option, but let's hope a monkey holding a rock is well within your skill-level.

Sherrie breathed in deeply, glad to finally be off that damn ferry and into Kadarra itself. While her hometown had been a small, relatively clean city, she'd felt more at home in the bigger, grungier places. The smell of smog and garbage and too many people in one area, almost strong enough to taste, was like coming home to her. She felt herself relax fully, for the first time since she'd first seen those Quilava making eggs all the way back in Johto. Still, getting Blaze had been worth it. Too well trained in the ways of the streets, Sherrie didn't let a hand drop down to her belt with Blaze's pokeball, hidden under a hoodie. People who constantly checked their valuables were prime targets for pickpockets.

She started walking, her stride relaxed and confident, carefully not leaning into aggressive. She kept her hands hooked on her pants pockets, casual, but not suspicious like hiding them both in pockets or sleeves. When she heard the clanging coming from an alley, she peered in, curious. At first, she wasn't interested in the Pokémon, and then did a double take when she realized she had one of her own and could actually fight. And such an agile looking Pokémon would be a handy thing to have on her team. Shaking her head in disgust at the accidental hand pun, she reached for Blaze's Pokeball, tossing it forward the way she'd learned to do, watching other trainers like a hawk. By studying various trainers on the way here, she actually looked like she legitimately owned the Cyndaquil.

And Blaze, by this point, was quite willing and able to follow her commands. At her order to charge up for battle, his flames burst into being, burning steadily. "Blaze, I want you to Spitfire that little monkey-thing up there to get it's attention. Once it's looking at you, give it a good Leer to weaken it." She thought for a moment about the next bit of strategy. "If it gets close to you, Tackle it. Otherwise, give it another Spitfire." Blaze didn't bother acknowledging her remarks, just demonstrated his understanding by launching right into the attack pattern, spitting a small jet of fire up at the Aipom.

[Apparently Scon wants to feel like a pretty pretty princess, so he reffed you.]

Living in an urban environment is wholly different from that of living in the wilds of forests, plains and mountains, or even rural villages. For a small rodent-ish Pokémon like Aipom, your biggest danger was no longer the Fearow who might decide you look enough like Rattata to warrant you becoming lunch, but instead the multitude of humans who crowded every street like a torrent of water. Their cars and machinery and buildings were even more of a deathtrap, and that's without the massive quantities of pollution billowing out into the sky. But on the other side of the coin, your opportunities were ever more bountiful, from shiniful trinkets just waiting for collection to dumpsters overflowing with nutritious half-finished burgers. And this very Aipom had both faces of the hypothetical coin to busy himself with.

The clunking of those hinges, under the weight of his little rock, echoed loudly enough in his ridiculously large ears for him to be oblivious to the noises you inevitably made as you got closer, and it was only when he caught a glimpse of light out of the corner of his eye, that he noticed the pair of you were there. Whether it was the release of the Pokeball or the glow of your Cyndaquil's vibrant backflame, I don't care to guess on, but that was neither here nor there, as the monkey was looking at your intrepid pairing, either way. His first instinct was to run, but he had just expended so much effort busting this bin open... And he was so hungry... He'd just have to see you off.

Apparently his cognitive decision hadn't been fast enough, as your Cyndaquil already blasted him with a (notably weak) collection of burning energy, produced from her mouth in much the manner of spitting; how effeminate. The success of the move was confirmed, perhaps moreso than anticipated, for there was a shrill cry as the Aipom lost his balance, falling off the dumpster and bouncing onto his tailhand, subsequently sending his pebble clattering a few inches away. This commotion wasn't quite as bad as the sound of the hinges under the rock, but there was a siren that seemed to blare almost immediately after, from a police vehicle no less. It was distant and almost certainly unrelated, unless someone had already phoned in bizarre noises in this area...

Aipom, barely having had a chance to get up, was struck under the threatening glare of your Cyndaquil. Despite her eyes being perpetually closed, the effect remained quite startling, unnerving the monkey and making him mislay attention he would otherwise have reserved for his defenses: She's scary looking, this fiery rodent, he would muse to himself. But far from paralysed, he looked around briefly, taking note of what he could use around him. The collapsing cardboard box? No. That dumpster was useless for this affair, too. But the floor was dirty, gritty and layered with a fair helping of silty sand and mud. Well, it's an alleyway, and there was a near-empty bag of sand laying discarded beside the dumpster. Probably for cement.

Aipom darted forward, swooping his extra paw by his side and flicking up a thin veil of sand, which he then propelled at your Cyndaquil, most notably her eyes, before vaulting at her. His Sand Attack landed quite sufficiently, and had she not seen him coming at her before he had launched it, she probably wouldn't have been ready to meet his subsequent challenge; both Pokémon met the brunt of the other's assault, as the lights overhead continued to flicker inconsistently, Tackle colliding with Scratch. The female's temporary blindness (how a Pokémon with Brockitis can be blinded by a Sand Attack is something I'm gonna have to write off as lolPokémon) was offset by her prior Leer, and both Pokémon seemed to come out just as badly as one another. The Cyndaquil had a searing scratch on her side, whilst the pinker of the pair could feel the bruise forming on his chest already, both falling to the dirty floor about 2 feet apart.

Sherrie glanced up in a carefully unconcerned way as she heard the police siren start up. Concentrating, she decided that the siren wasn't too close, and hopefully nothing to do with them. Still, she'd prefer to maybe put a little distance between herself and it, and look like she was innocently going somewhere on purpose at the same time. Even when she actually, honestly wasn't doing anything wrong, Sherrie preferred to look like she wasn't doing anything the least bit suspicious or illegal. If she acted carefully all the time, then it was habit, and she didn't have to worry about it when it mattered.

So that meant it was time to wrap this up. She debated tossing a Pokeball already, since the little purple monkey was looking pretty shaky. An Aipom, she realized, or possibly Pomape... Handy, how so many Pokémon spoke their own names. But since she'd never tried to catch a wild Pokémon before... she figured a little overkill was probably better. If the thing was unconscious, it definitely wouldn't be able to break out of the ball when she caught it. "Good job, Blaze. You still with me? I want you to take a deep breath, and concentrate. Even if you're having troubles seeing, you should be able to hear that little thing. Tackle it again, I think it's pretty close to going down. Don't worry if you miss, just try again." Blaze nodded determinedly, doing her best to pinpoint her opponent before charging forward.

The way the little monkey had rallied impressed her almost as much as Blaze's perfection in attacking. That trick with the sand was clever, and it proved how quick and nimble the little creature was. Really, the perfect addition to a Pokémon team for her line of work. Now if only Blaze could take the thing out quickly and quietly, so they could get out of this area before someone heard the scuffle and came by to take a look. Sherrie had found life was easier if nobody actually saw you anywhere in particular. Watching Blaze line up her Tackle, Sherrie fished an empty Pokeball out of her backpack, getting ready to toss it as soon as the little monkey passed out.

Fighting in an alley, that would raise anyone's suspicion, but you hadn't done anything bad yet, not in Tohea, right? The sirens eventually died done, most completely, you no longer hand anything to fear from them. But like any large city, one of which you'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. You must be cautious here, even when doing something so simple as fighitng a Pokémon in an alley. But fear not, nothing tragic, nor disruptive would happen here to bother your battling endeavorer.

Aipom took a small step back, it wasn't sure how to proceed forward after been leered at by a Pokémon that never really opened its eyes. But it didn't make a sound, so Blaze, who was pretty much following it's mothers orders, simply sat there, waiting trying to listen for any sounds that the monkey might have made. The two were pretty much at a stand still, the tension in the air was thick, but both Pokémon held their ground, ignoring the perpetual standstill, but and just waiting for the right moment to strike.

Aipom was the first to move, instead of waiting any longer it charged forward, yelling its name as it rose a palm wanting to end this battle as soon as it possibly could. Though that was the cue for your Pokémon to attack as well, it charged forward and clashed with Aipom once more. The monkey scratched at Cyndaquils head, nailing it right between the eyes, before that same head slammed into its chest. Fortunately Blaze's attack was much stronger, causing the monkey to get knocked backwards several feet, and roll away unconscious.

Blaze won the battle! But that shouldn't be too surprising to the person who took care of it since the day of its birth. It was in the position to be captured, since that was what you wanted to do, it just lie there. Though, the battle did cause a bit of a commotion, you probably should get going before you draw some sort of unnecessary attention.

"Oh, Blaze, well done," Sherrie said, jogging quickly towards him, as soon as the Aipom collapsed. She knelt down and petted his head gently, then scooped him up once his flames died down and extinguished. "Good job." She cuddled him against her chest as she rummaged in her bag, then tossed a Pokeball towards the Aipom. "Let's get the both of you to the Pokémon Center, eh?"

Scooping up the captured Aipom's Pokeball, Sherrie clipped it to her belt, feeling a little thrill of accomplishment. Two Pokémon already, and both of them had made an excellent showing in that battle. Not to mention her newest accquisition was agile, intelligent, and cute. Those would all be useful traits, especially with that hand-tail.

First, though, she'd have to take care of both of them. Sherrie was a big believer in getting everything for free, so when something acutally came with no price attatched, it was definitely worth checking out. She'd spent the occasional evening in a Pokémon Center's lobby, just staying warm and picking up information... or a little cash from a sleepy or inattentive trainer. And now, she even had a legitimate reason to go, which meant that nobody would ask her awkward questions about why she was there.

Feeling pretty cheerful, Blaze dozing lightly in the crook of her arm, Sherrie headed off for the closest Pokémon Center in the neighborhood. It would probably be busy, and wasn't very luxurious, but function was more important than looks anyway.

Luckily for Sherrie and her pair of Pokémon, there wasn't a Pokémon Center too far from where they were. To make that even better, there was a creeping sense of foreboding as the sun sank further and further from the sky with each passing moment. It was already approaching dusk when you went to deal with that Aipom, and it was only going to get darker. As street-savvy as you seemed to be, it probably wasn't a good idea to be out and about as dark falls. It was only just down the street and around the corner from that supermarket, so it wasn't a short walk, either. The bright lights and giant Pokeball on the roof made it even easier to find, and you were quick to head right inside.

In contrast to your expectations, however, the Pokémon Center was somewhat on the empty side. See, you'd managed to find one of the less occupied sections of the larger complex. Plus, as it was getting late, many of the various citizens of Kadaraa were already home or on their way there, likely wanting to get somewhere presumably safe. So, all that was really inside the building were the nurses and a few people here and there. The room itself was rather sparse, with a large clock on one wall and a staircase leading up to the next floor on the opposite. A third wall held the counter, and the fourth had the door. There were couches and chairs all over the place, along with some potted plants and a TV that was currently off. There were two men, completely unrelated, on opposite sides of the room. One wore dressier clothes, and stared intently towards his wrist, likely looking at a watch. On the other side was a considerably less well-off looking man, with somewhat ragged-looking clothes, messy hair, and lots of grisly facial hair. He looked towards the door, giving you a bit of a stare as you walked in.

Assuming you're going to act like a standard Trainer and do the standard things, the Nurse is going to take your Pokémon with a smile, and quickly hurry off back behind the counter to treat them. From here, you can do all manner of things, from socialize to explore to nothing at all, considering it won't be an instant-healing on the Nurse's part. Choice is yours, of course.
